PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Not sure how you would describe our form. We seem to vary from not very good to not very very good to bl**dy marvellous. This week was not very, very good to marvellous.
Tuesday League.
Away – Ashwood Park – 24 July – 6.00pm.
Now earlier in the day there had been a stonking amount of precipitation in Buxton, rain to you and me. The wet stuff that comes out of the sky. The difference in the way our bowls played was quite remarkable and although the ‘green’ was still very slick it was really nice to play on. Even when we lost a game it was only by a few points namely Pat B and Dennis E going down 21 – 18. John B, playing with Harry B stormed home 21 – 10, with our captain fantastic Dawn playing with Frances also winning handsomely 21 – 11. We saved the best until last with stupendous Rick and Edith veritably strolling home 21 – 6. What a difference a week makes. Ashwood Park 48, Parwich 81.
Next match – Home – Matlock Bath – 31 July – 6.00pm
Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Bakewell – 26 July – 1.45pm.
Talk about the curates egg, being good in parts, we had an archbishops egg, down-right rancid. And again what a difference a week makes in the bowls world. Bakewell’s green is not particularly good to play on at the best of times, but when there has been no liquid refreshment for the grass it is diabolical. The doubles games were best forgotten with only Sue and Liz getting anywhere near, Bakewell 63, Parwich 38.
Although we shared the 6 singles games 3 each, our scores were the complete opposite of last week, we lost very well. The only bright spot to mention, and what a bright spot it was, was Dennis E playing singles for the first time since he was a teenager (Dennis is in his 80’s) winning 15 – 12. This has to go down in the annals of Crown Green bowls, as one of the greatest games ever played. Fantastic! Suffice it to say we lost 80 – 64. Overall Bakewell 143, Parwich 102. At least we got over a hundred.
Not sure if next week will be any better at Wirksworth, keep your fingers crossed.
Next Match – Wirksworth – 2 August – 1.45pm.
John B.

July 2018 – The Millenium pond has completely dried up, the photo compares the pond to this time last year. Not good timing for the Baby Moorhens who are currently on the pond finding what few puddles there are.
Who has picked blackberries before in July?!

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Still hanging in there in the Thursday League, but the wheels are well and truly falling off in the Tuesday League. The ‘greens’, as you will be aware, are slicker than ever.
Tuesday League.
Home – Hope Works – 17 July – 6.00pm
Hope works are third in the division and we are/were second. After this evenings attempts we are going to drop like a stone, only one win out of the four games. Dennis and Clara E did us proud though, even though they lost. At one point they were 15 – 5 down, but fought back to only lose by the odd point 20 – 21. Tony and Harry also came close, but lost 16 – 21. Best not mention Sue and Dot except to say, try as they might they could not get to grips with the lightening fast conditions. Thankfully Edith’s fractured left eye lash has heeled sufficiently for her to partner the long suffering Rick. They played Hope’s best pair and won 21 – 16. The final outcome, however, was never in doubt and we lost 62 – 79. Wonder how far this defeat will drop us down the league? Another tricky match next week.
Next match – Away – Ashwood Park – 24 July – 6.00pm
Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Whitworth Park – 19 July – 1.45pm.
Whitworth Park have got to be one of the friendliest clubs in the league. It’s good to play them, win, lose, or draw. No losses or draws today however, with a clean sweep in the doubles games. Dennis E and Liz H winning in great style 21 – 9. Followed closely by Clara E and Sue A 21 – 11, and Ian J, partnered by the rejuvenated Edith, 21 -14. Parwich 63, Whitworth 34. What a good start to the match.
Although we shared the singles game 3 each, our losing players still scored heavily. Dawn A following on from the unmentionable last week, won handsomely 15 – 4, the score being matched by John B. Our other winner was John H who at one point was 9 – 2 down, but came back to win 15 – 10. All in all good results Parwich 80, Whitworth 63. Final score Parwich 143, Whitworth 97. We were third or fourth in the division so this should help us stay somewhere near.
Next Match – Away – Bakewell – 26 July – 1.45pm.
We have got a friendly game against Hazelwood on Sunday, so if you want to see what it’s like to play on an ‘ice rink’ come and have a look – 2.pm
John B

To parents and children of Friday football, and other helpful villagers
I was wondering if you can spare a maximum of an hour to help repair the Parsons Croft Football area.
You may have seen previously reported on the blog that due to the dry weather the lines on the football pitch have cracked and opened up making the pitch a little unsafe. Thankfully Peter Trewitt has provided us with approx.. 600kg of fine soil (free of charge… thank you Peter!) to fill in the affected areas. I was hoping for some help doing this.
We will be on the football pitch between 7pm – 8pm this Wednesday evening (18th July). Small trowels, small spades and buckets are all that are required.
Note: If you have any spare bags of sand or soil hidden at the back of your garage feel free to bring this down as I am not sure that 600kg’s of soil is enough. Smaller children can also help.
We understand that eventually the cracks should close together naturally, but this may take many months, so to help speed up the process we are giving the land a helping hand.
Thank you for your continued support, hope to see you Wednesday.
Jason

Update: A new home has now been found for this puppy
Home urgently needed for our beautiful KC registered Apricot standard poodle boy – currently 13 weeks old.
We are reluctantly selling our beautiful Apricot standard poodle boy which we purchased from a registered breeder only last weekend. Unfortunately our son has turned out to be allergic to the puppy so we are left with the sad realisation that the puppy has to go.
The puppy has such a wonderful loving, playful nature and behaves superbly with our son.
He is KC registered, microchipped and all of his vaccinations are up to date.
**Included in the sale if you so wish: Wicker basket with cushion and blanket, dog crate, large selection of toys, water and food bowl, lead and collar – all brand new. **
Please contact Chloe/James on 01335 390175 for more information.

Tonight will be the last Friday football until the back end of the summer holidays. James and I are going to take a short break from football and recharge our batteries.
Can everyone be aware that due to the amazing weather we have recently had, the lines around the football pitch have dried, cracked and opened up. These cracks present a trip hazard to people using the pitch or walking across the area. I have discussed the matter with the council and have experimented using sand to fill in the cracks, but we are not sure how successful this will be. The issue will be discussed at the next council meeting to see what options we can consider (all suggestions welcome).
Please be reminded that children (and adults) play on the football pitch at their own risk. I will remind the children of these potential hazards before we start.
Kind regards
Jason

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Greens are still as slick as ever and we are not coping very well at all. For some reason we start the bowls season really well, but then drop off like the proverbial stone as the season progresses. This year the pattern is sadly being repeated.
Tuesday League.
Away – Chatsworth – 10 July – 6.00pm
Even when clubs are have their own automatic watering systems the sunny weather has been so intense that ‘greens’ are no more. Try as we might we could not get to grips with the Chatsworth green. At least we got to double figures, just. Captain Dawn back playing with Frances showed us all how it should be done by winning 21 – 9. This was our only win in what turned out to be the heaviest defeat of the year so far. Pat and John B were our next best pair and they could only manage to lose 12 – 21. Even our redoubtable combo of Edith and Rick lost. Let us hope that, not only for our gardens and fields sake, we get some rain soon to spike up the greens. Chatsworth 72, Parwich 55.
Next match – Home – Hope – 17 July – 6.00pm
Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Youlgrave – 12 July – 1.45pm.
Now dear knowledgable reader you will know all about the items buried under their green, but when they are coupled with no grass we would have been better playing on the tennis hard courts next door. Our pairs teams did well on the treacherous ground, but only managed one win. Audrey and Clara winning 21 – 15. Both Dennis and Dot and Liz and Ian lost 14 – 21. Youlgrave 57, Parwich 49.
The singles games were shared 3 apiece. Edith had already said that she could not play because she had a badly fractured left eye-lash! What a smart move that was. Keith B did at least give us all a lesson on how to play on on the surface winning 15 – 9. Frances and John B also just about managing wins. We won’t mention how Dawn got on though. Youlgrave 77, Parwich 73. Overall Youlgrave 134, Parwich 122, not a bad result in the scheme of things.
Just think that by this time next week the World Cup will be over, as will Wimbledon, and the school holidays will be looming large!
Next Match – Home – Whitworth – 19 July – 1.45pm.
John B.
