PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Week four of the season already. Not sure where the first three went, but gone they are. Not too bad this week one reasonable loss and a very good win.
Tuesday League.
Away – Hope – 1 May.
Always very strong and competitive matches up around the arctic circle. Although we lost we did manage to share the games two each. Harry B and Tony A only just missing out 17 – 21. John and Pat B came unstuck, however, against a very good pair losing 12 – 21. At least they got to double figures. Our new wonder team of Dawn and Frances did it again for us winning in great style 21 – 18. Finally not to be outdone our Edith and Rick battled all the way, coming out on top by the odd point 21 – 20. Good game to watch. Final score Hope 80, Parwich 71.
Next Match – Home – Ashwood Park – 8 May – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Whitworth Park A – 3 May – 1.45pm.
Win or lose it is really good to go to Whitworth. It is such a friendly, welcoming Club. It also does no harm to have a good win either. We were unstoppable. Although we lost two of the three doubles games Ian J and Sue A had such a good win 21 – 9, that we still finished 5 points ahead. Harry and Audrey B came close losing 18 – 21, as indeed did Liz H and Edith just being pipped 17 – 21. Whitworth 51, Parwich 56.
In the singles it was one way traffic, with only two of Whitworth’s players getting double figures. Parwichians won all 6 games, with John H winning the best 15- 5. Other good wins were Tony A 15 – 6, Keith B 15 – 7, and Frances W 15 – 9. Whitworth 51, Parwich 90. One of our best results and particularly away from home. Final result Whitworth 102, Parwich 146.
We managed to put out a full team of 12 players this week, however next week we are in a bit of bother as we have 7 players unable to play for various reasons. Bearing in mind we only have 16 registered players we will only have 9 at best. If someone else can’t make it then we will have to suffer a 25 point penalty.
Next Match – Home – Bakewell – 10 May – 1.45pm.
John B

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Not sure why it is but we do seem to start the bowls season with a bang. It could be something to do with the inclement weather, or the water, or just plain cussedness or maybe even, good bowling? Well what ever it is we have started well again.
Tuesday League.
Home – Chatsworth B – 24 April.
Having come unstuck at Chatsworth in the first match of the season by the slenderest of margins, how would we fair against another Chatsworth team. Judging by the result, not bad. Sue and Tony A are rapidly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the green. Not sure about the rest of what they do, but keep taking the bowls tablets. They got us off to a great start winning 21 – 6. It took Harry B and Dennis E a while to nail their win, but nail it they did 21 – 17. At one point they were 20 – 10 in the lead. Another pair rapidly becoming stars on the green are Dawn and Frances. They beat a really good pair 21 – 11. Finally, so much has been written and said about Parwich’s bowling legends Edith and Rick it seems only appropriate to say that they won 21 – 7. Now again children you budding mathematical geniuses will have already calculated that Parwich won by the maximum 84 – 41. This puts us second in the League. Watch us fall over next week when we have to travel to the arctic circle.
Next Match – Away – Hope Works – 1 May – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Youlgrave – 26 April – 1.45pm.
Now dear reader you will know that playing on Pommy’s green is like jumping out of an air plane without a parachute so it is essential you play well on your own green, and play well we did. Only one win in the doubles thanks to Sue A and Ian J, but we scored some good points in the others. Parwich 43, Youlgrave 58.
Our first three singles players more than made up for our 15 point deficit in the doubles winning all three with a total of 45 – 17! The next three were a bit more challenging with the points being shared 42 each, however a new rule has been introduced this year whereby if a team has less than 9 players then that team will be penalised 25 points. Unfortunately Youlgrave only had 8 players so were docked the penalty points. The final score Parwich 130, Youlgrave 92 (117 – 25).
Next Match – Away – Whitworth Park – 3 May – 1.45pm.
Don’t forget that around 6.00pm on Mondays we have a bit of a practice, which judging by some of the results, is badly needed. Come along and have a go. Flat soled shoes are all you need.
John B.

The static defibrillator has been moved from the entrance to the church and is now situated by the main entrance to The Sycamore Inn. It was felt by the first responders that this was a more prominent position and Kirsty very kindly agreed to site it on the pub wall. Anyone needing to access a defibrillator in in emergency should 1st dial 999 to access the code and make sure an ambulance is dispatched.
Last week the existing First Responders attended a requalification event with EMAS. We are very pleased to report that they were all successful in requalifying. The number of fully trained First Responders is quite small and although we have a few people ready and waiting to undergo training, more volunteers are required. The First Responders we have in Parwich the more coverage we can provide. It is entirely voluntary being a First Responders and it is up to individuals to choose how much time they can spare.
If you have an interest in becoming a volunteer and want to find out more why not come to the next training session. There you can meet the existing First Responders, watch a training session and get a general idea of what is involved. You will be made very welcome.
Please contact Martin 529 or Sue 334 for more details on becoming involved.

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
They say a week is a long time in politics, but a couple of days in Crown Green bowls is even longer. The changes in the weather were incredible. Shame that the bowls results didn’t match some of it.
Tuesday League.
Home – Bradwell – 17 April.
Still absolutely freezing on Tuesday night, more brass monkey’s. Having been pipped last week we needed to get a winning streak going. The match was shared two games each, but as you know it’s points that win prizes. Dennis and Clara E put on a good attempt, but came second 10 – 21. Captain fantastic Dawn playing again with our new club member Frances showed how it should be done winning in great style 21 – 5. Harry B and our Edith came a very close second to the dynamic duo again winning 21 – 9. Although Tony and Sue A lost it was by a very small margin indeed 19 – 21. Adding up the points Parwich came out on top 71 – 56. Another home match next week against Chatsworth B this time. Another win would be good.
Next Match – Home – Chatsworth B – 24 April – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Bradwell – 19 April – 1.45pm.
So having had the thermal Long Johns on on Tuesday night it was Costa del Bradwell Thursday afternoon. Banging on the factor 99 sun cream our doubles pairs took to the green. Unfortunately their play did not match the high temperature of the day, we lost all three games, some closer than others. The score was Bradwell 63, Parwich 45.
One or two of our star players were unavailable, so Tony A, the captain, had to ‘rotate the squad’, bringing in some new players from last week. The six games were shared three each, but we just managed to score more than Bradwell, John B being the star player winning 15 – 3 which made a welcome change from the show he put on last week. The singles finished Bradwell 69, Parwich 72, unfortunately not enough to overhaul the deficit from the doubles. The final score however was not too bad with Parwich going down 132 – 117. At least the sun shone brightly.
Next Match – Home – Youlgrave – 26 April – 1.45pm.
Don’t forget that around 6.00pm on Mondays we have a bit of a practice, which judging by some of the results, is badly needed. Come along and have a go. Flat soled shoes are all you need.
John B
