Keep Dogs Under Control

Dog owners asked to keep pets under close control in countryside

Dog owners are urged to keep their pets on short leads to protect wildlife in the Peak District National Park. During the breeding season of spring and early summer, new-born lambs and ground-nesting birds, such as lapwing, curlew and snipe, are particularly vulnerable to harm from dogs roaming free or on long leads.

By law, dogs must be under control on public rights of way and on a short lead on open access land from March 1 to July 31. In fields containing farm animals and nesting birds, it is sensible to keep dogs on leads.

Peak District National Park access and rights of way manager Mike Rhodes said: “Walking a dog is one of the joys of being in the countryside, but we need all dog owners to keep their pets under proper control during this sensitive time, which usually means being on a short lead. Ground nesting birds are particularly at risk, while sheep and lambs can also be badly injured or killed by uncontrolled dogs. For its own safety, never let a dog approach or chase farm animals or wildlife – your dog could get kicked, trampled or lost and it could be legally shot for chasing farm animals. It is not a legal requirement to use a lead on public paths, but you should be extra vigilant in the breeding season and always use a lead if you can’t rely on your dog’s obedience.”

Dogs are not allowed at all on some moors to protect sensitive breeding sites – and signs will indicate this on site.

To report incidents involving dogs on farmland or moors, call the police on 101. To ask for signs to go up in problem areas, please contact Peak District National Park on 01629 816200 (weekdays).

Spring Ball – 24th March

First Sighting of Curlews

The Curlews have landed in Port Meadow, a herd of 10 this morning in the field, which over the next week or so should hopefully increase.

Its amazing how they choose to mass in this one field continuously year on year before going to their nesting grounds in pairs, it also shows their resilience to changes in farming the land, its great to see.

Any signs of spring yet???  David S

Singers & Crafters Wanted

The Peak Five group of churches is recruiting a scratch choir for occasional services – and we’d like to invite anyone with an interest in singing to get in touch with me. The next service we would like to support with a choir is at 6.30 pm April 29th at St Mary’s Tissington, for a visit by Bishop Alastair – a service of Evensong, which is beautiful and not too stuffy! There will be a few practices, but nothing too strenuous.
I’m holding a family/children and adult’s craft and film session on Good Friday 30th March in the morning, posters due out soon, and would be grateful for a couple of helpers, who can bring their own families too of course. Crafts suitable for all ages.
Thank you all!

Oil Price Still Sky High

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

** The last two weeks we have seen severe disruption to the delivery of heating oil due to the weather and supply of product. If you are low on oil and may run out this group order will not be suitable so please do not add your order – we are not be able to organise quick deliveries. **

Please note the delivery time. Delivery times are subject to weather and supply conditions. Please do order early and allow plenty of time for delivery to avoid any problems and please check you tank levels, we are all using a lot more fuel than normal. It would be worth a visual inspection as we have had many reports of meters giving false levels over the last few weeks.

If you like the rate, please do spread the word. By grouping our orders, we can also substantially reduce harmful diesel emissions, CO2 and damage and danger to our roads and villages.

We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:

Rate:  £0.5495 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Have your Say

Last chance to have your say to help shape the Peak District National Park
People who care about the Peak District National Park and how it is managed are being asked to take part in the final round of public consultation on the National Park Management Plan 2018-2023.

The National Park Management Plan is a partnership plan for the place which lasts for five years. It describes for everyone what the main issues and priorities are whilst encouraging everyone to work together to conserve and enhance the special qualities of the Peak District National Park, for the benefit of all.

People are being asked to comment on the revised special qualities, which are:
– beautiful views created by contrasting landscapes and dramatic geology;
– internationally important and locally distinctive wildlife and habitats;
– undeveloped places of tranquillity and dark night skies within reach of millions;
– landscapes that tell a story of thousands of years of people, farming and industry;
– characteristic settlements with strong communities and traditions;
– an inspiring space for escape, adventure, discovery and quiet reflection;
– vital benefits for millions of people that flow beyond the landscape boundary.

The six areas of impact people are being asked about are:
– preparing for a future climate;
– ensuring a future for farming and land management;
– managing landscape conservation on a big scale;
– a National Park for everyone;
– encouraging enjoyment with understanding;
– supporting thriving and sustainable communities and economy.

The consultation questions can be found at www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/npmpconsultation which will be live from 26 Feb.

The survey is open to all – it opened on 5 March and is available until midnight on 16 April, 2018.

B5056 Repairs

We have received the following from DCC:

Essential safety work on an Ashbourne road continues

5 March 2018

Our work to repair an Ashbourne road continues this week as bad weather delays repairs.

Extensive work on the B5056 between Bent Lane, Tissington Ford and its junction with the A515 at Fenny Bentley is now scheduled to continue later into this month.

The road was closed, initially for three weeks, on February 12. The closure is to enable a two-and-a-half mile stretch of the road to be patched. This is to make the road − prone to cracking because of its proximity to a landslip − safe.

It had been due to reopen yesterday (Sunday 4 March 2018) but work has been delayed because of the unusually difficult winter conditions.

We’ve extended the closure − until Thursday 29 March 2018 – so repairs can be completed.

Our Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, Councillor Simon Spencer said:

“We acknowledge this is not the best time of the year to carry out this work but we were not confident that the road would remain safe until the summer. We consulted with the local quarries and hauliers and they advised us that doing the work now would cause less disruption to their businesses.”

Councillor Spencer added:

“We’ve now asked for the closure to be extended until the end of March but we will endeavour to work as quickly as possible, weather permitting, to try and get this road opened sooner. I’d like to thank motorists for their patience while this essential work is carried out.”

Signposted diversions are in place. The diversion from Ashbourne is along the A515 to Newhaven, along the A5012 Via Gellia to Grangemill, the B5056 to the point of the road closure and vice versa.

Parwich School Closed

Due to no water supply, Parwich Primary School is now closing (Monday 5th March).Many apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Water Supply Problems

I think there are water supply issues in the village. Martin C

Thanks to Martin for sending us the following from Severn Trent’s website:

Updated Monday 5th March 4.15am
We’d like to apologise to customers in and around the Hulland Ward, Kirk Ireton, Bradbourne and Kineton areas of the Peak District who are experiencing little or no water after one of our bigger water pipes burst on Sunday night.
We’ve got teams on the ground working on isolating the burst which will then allow us to move water around our network in a different way to get supplies back to normal.
We know its hard when you have no water, but please bear with us – we are doing everything we can to get supplies back on as soon as possible.

Grit Bins

Refilling of most grit bins is the responsibility of the Highways Authority, Derbyshire County Council. Anyone seeing a bin that needs refilling can call them using the phone number on the bin or make a request via their website. The bin can be identified by a number on it or from a map on the website.

It does no harm if more than one person reports the same bin.
It is possible that there will be delays in refilling bins during the current weather.

I have checked the following.
Creamery Lane triangle and the School have plenty.
Pump Hill and Kiln Lane were empty and I have left some of the bags held by the Parish Council for pavement clearance to provide some cover until they are refilled.
The bin at the top of Creamery Lane near Barn cottage is filled by the Parish Council and has two unopened bags of grit by it.
The bin on Smithy Close is the responsibility of Waterloo Housing.
The bin at the telephone exchange is the responsibility of BT and is for their own use.
Please note that the grit in yellow bins is for use on public roads only.
Regards
Andrew Martin
