Meet the Neighbours

matt & mel

Mel and Matt Neville moved with their Spaniel Gizmo into Rathbourne Croft on the 4th August 2017. They had moved to the village from Matlock where they had been living together for 2 years until their wedding in February 2017. Mel and Matt met through the dating website Eharmony and were drawn together through their love of the outdoors and their mutual desire for children and the country way of life. Mel gave birth to their daughter Amy on the 14th September this year. They chose to live in Parwich as it gives them the country home and quiet way of life they both crave, and having lived here for the past 6 weeks are happy that they have made the right decision. They both feel as though they have found their dream home in their dream location, and look forward to meeting the rest of the village when they are able; in particular they are looking forward to enjoying a drink in the legion, as soon as Amy lets them!

As a footnote, Mel would be interested to hear from anyone keen to be involved in a local mother and baby group.

Support for CHICKS

ChicksAlong with my friend, Annette, I have decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next August to raise some vital funds for their very worthy cause. We have begun the training but the bigger challenge for us is raising the £7000 sponsorship money we have committed to. So far, we have held cake stalls in Ashbourne, set up a bonus ball, and planned fundraising evenings.

Many of you will be aware of the national children’s charity, CHICKS, a branch of which is on our doorstep in Fenny Bentley. CHICKS provides free respite breaks to disadvantaged children from all over the UK.  This year they need to raise £1.5 million to continue providing vital breaks for vulnerable children who might be living in poverty, be young carers, be victims of bullying or abuse, or have been bereaved.

How can you help?

  • You can buy a steak & ale pie / mince & onion pie/ Christmas cake from us (prices vary depending on size). These have already been selling like hot cakes (excuse the pun).
  • You can sponsor us directly (see details below)
  • You can do anything else you can think of to help us achieve our target!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. This is a challenge very close to our hearts and made even tougher because I don’t like small insects and Annette doesn’t like small mammals!

Tracey Fentem and Annette Froggatt

For pies/cakes requests, contact Tracey on 07772 758470.

Donations can be made in person at our place of work – FitzHerbert Primary School, by cheque in the post to us (please make it payable to Tracey Fentem) or bank transfers can be made to our Fundraising Account Sort code 40-28-01, Bank Account Number 11012258 and Reference number to our account is 72521429900.

Lost Loppers

Yesterday at the clean up a pair of black long handle branch cutters went missing. Could everyone at the clean up yesterday please check their tools to see if they may have picked them up by mistake. They belong to Shaun. Thank you Tracy

Update: these have now been found

Apple Pressing

Wondering if anyone has apples either being forgotten on trees or rotting on floor, than they didn’t mind donating to Cromford Apple Day. I’ll be there with the sister to the press in the below photo, happily making apple juice for all. On the same theme, if anyone in Parwich wants their own apples pressing into juice, just ask, Cheers Jon H

Move over Shaun!

Not many of you may know but we have some celebrities living in Parwich. Our new screen stars can be found living along the Alsop road. Some of Ben’s sheep recently featured in a Jack Wills advert that went viral on Youtube. Ben will be organising photo opportunities and autograph signing sessions in the near future!

Please Note the video can take a while to load – especially for those living on Creamery Lane 🙂

We will update this post in due course but please let us know if you have any further (or more up to date) information.

Oil Price Steady

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Crude prices hover around the $56 a barrel but the fall in the pound, due to UK political uncertainty, has pushed the price of kerosene up further this week. As the weather turns cooler, suppliers are busy with delivery times 5 to 10 working days.

The rate on offer and  details for our clubs group orders for this weekend are as follows.

Rate: £0.3999 ( per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

I recently have been in contact with a local lady called Sera who rescues chickens.

At present she has a couple cockerels that need rehoming, including:
Bantam Cochin Grey; and
Buff Orpington (in the middle photo below);

Please click on ‘continue reading’ below for more information.

If you are interested please contact Sera directly via email (sprestons@yahoo.co.uk). Birds can be collected just off the A515, between Ashbourne and Buxton or Sera can deliver locally.

Thai Takeaway Night at the Legion

Subject to final approval at the next Parish Council meeting the Village Bonfire and fireworks will take place on Parson’s Croft on Sunday 5th November from 6pm.

There will be a bonfire, best guy competition (£5 prize), fireworks, raffle and refreshments.

Due to insurance costs and health and safety requirements we will be holding a raffle and have donation tins located around the site; please donate so we can continue to provide these events in the village. Please note that our insurance states that people must not bring their own fireworks to the site, this includes sparklers.

The bonfire site is the same as last year and is clearly visible so please bring along any dry wood, logs or dead branches but DO NOT bring anything with metal and nails such as mattresses, pallets or sofas.

Thank you and see you there!

Any questions please email Lucy at lucywigley@googlemail.com

Parwich Oddfellows Family Fun Day

Thoughtless Driving?

Having filled in and reseeded the ruts in the verges in my part of Creamery Lane some three weeks ago, the areas have had to have new earth and grass seed added some five times since then because of either stupidity or bad driving. The newly germinated grass seed does not survive being driven on. Today at lunch time I had to add more soil in three locations, one was obviously an abortive attempt at parking (completely unnecessary as there was plenty of on road space today), although the other locations can only be due to people driving off the road. However this afternoon someone seems to have deliberately driven off the road over part of the repaired area.

Please can people show a basic consideration and refrain from driving over the verges until new grass has been established.
