We have received this from the Legion…..
OH, WHAT A SPREAD!!!
A massive congratulations to everyone involved in Sunday evenings Harvest Festival Auction of Produce which raised a cracking £700 for village good causes.
We say welcome and thank you to our new vicar, Rev Carollyn McDonald who opened proceedings by giving the Blessing – we feel that this will be a long and happy friendship and we can always find room for a camper van if you fancy trying a drop of something warming anytime.
If Heineken did auctioneers, it would be our very master of the gavel, Paul Cooper, who once again succeeded in whipping people into a frenzy of bidding fury – we bow to your expertise. He was ably assisted by our own dolly dealer Gill Evans, who also put together the fabulous packages donated by the Legion.
Special mention must be made to the Horticultural Society, who this year decided to combine their annual show with our own event. An overwhelming turnout in entries meant that their generosity in passing produce onto the auction swelled the coffers significantly.
And finally to everyone else who baked, made, grew, harvested, helped, bid, spent…….the list goes on and on and apologies to anyone we’ve missed.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for once again making our Harvest Festival a thoroughly heart warming and humbling occasion.

We have recently lost two of our hens (pictures below, though they look a bit more scruffy at the min due to moulting and unwanted male attention). One disappeared a couple of weeks ago and one went missing more recently. They are usually in the field between Pond Cottage and Veronica’s, and they wander up as far as the school. Has any one seen any hens wandering about in that vicinity, or had any unexpected additions to their flock? We have found no evidence of feathers (in the field or on the road), heard no unusual hen noise and we are not aware of any sightings of a fox. It’s all a bit of a mystery…. So we would be very appreciative if anyone can help.
Many thanks, Rob and Emma (tel. 203)

Just to let any O2 users in the village know that there is apparently an issue with the mast according to O2, hence no service on mobiles; they are aware of the problem but because the mast is maintained by a third party they have no date for its resolution. I have had no coverage at all since Monday (don’t get much coverage at the best of times) but 02 have now arranged to route my mobile calls through my landline so if anyone else is experiencing the same problem and doesn’t wish to miss incoming calls then give your provider a call from your landline.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
Kerosene rates continue to rise with crude passing $56 dollars a barrel and suppliers now busy with autumn orders.
A quick tip, I recommend ordering when your tank level is 35% to 40% full. Apart from ensuring you do not run out before delivery, the other key reason is if your tank is virtually empty when fuel is added the sludge and water, which builds up over time at the bottom of the tank, will be stirred up and drawn into the system. This will cause issues. Suppliers are often blamed for suppling dirty fuel but in fact it’s often just the sludge and water in your tank. For more information, please login in and go to FAQ > Tank Care.
The rate and offer details for our clubs group orders for this weekend are as follows:
Rate: £0.3799 ( per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
This is it. When you come to the end of your lollipop all you have left is the stick! We can put the woods away until April next year. What will we find to do with all the time we have ? Now let me think?
Thursday League
Away – Hope Works – 14 September.
Having battled away last week and got a good win could the unthinkable happen and we manage to stay up in the top division? The chap who does all the admin on the league, bless him, only updates the results every year or two so we don’t know how we have done since last weeks match! However, as true Parwichians we would keep right on to the end of road even though we are tired and weary. I’m getting all emotional I must pull myself together. So, back to bowls, considering we were playing the top of the league, two of our doubles pairs performed as if we were top and not bottom. Because of holidays and injury Rick was playing twice and was joined in the game by Dot. They played their little socks off beating Hope’s top pair 21 – 14. Ian J and Harry B just would not give in and finally lost the game on the last end 20 – 21. Best not mention our third pair, but suffice it to say they did not win. After the doubles we were 12 points down.
Now Hope are like a lot of the top teams they usually only play with 9 players and not 12. This dear reader means that 3 of their players also play in the singles and of course the 3 who play twice are the best in the team! We of necessity were also one player short. Of the 6 games we won 4! with Keith and Rick winning against their two best players! The final outcome in the singles still meant we lost 74 – 75. Great effort. The final, final score was Hope 131, Parwich 118, which under normal circumstances would have had us doing cartwheels across the green. Well in our dreams anyway. Will we avoid the big drop? Don’t think so, but playing in the lower division suits us really. The people in the higher echelons take it too seriously. I will let you know.
Just as an aside we did finish fourth in the Tuesday league. Terrific result.
John B.

We have been asked by the Parish Council to publicise the next Village Maintenance Day which will be held on Sunday the 8th of October.
The particular tasks to be tackled will be discussed and planned at the next Parish Council Meeting on the 20th of September.
The Parish Council hopes that by giving advance notice, more people will be able to take part. Even if you can only give an hour or two you will be very welcome. The more people we have the more we can get done on the day.

We received a report yesterday that a Land Rover Defender 90 XS in Black of registration
YC65 HEV was stolen from a property in Flagg near Bakewell.
The vehicle was stolen some time between 2100 hours on 11th September and 0600 hours 12th September 2017.
The vehicle was fitted with one of the police discounted back2you trackers. We were initially able to make a link towards the South of the county, but unfortunately, as the tracker was not charged, we soon lost contact with it.
This alert is to respectfully serve as a reminder:
-It is worth purchasing a tracker for your farm/agricultural vehicle. We were able to initially make a link to an area.
-If you have purchased a tracker, please ensure that it is activated and regularly charged in the event of a theft to maximise our opportunities of recovery and identifying the offender(s)
-Thirdly, Land Rover Defenders and quad bikes are still being targeted by thieves. Please continue to think about security, considering good locks, CCTV, trackers, adequate lighting, alarms etcetera and also please keep reporting suspicious visitors to your farm premises or in the general area.
If you require any further help or advice, please contact the team either on 101 or via our dedicated rural crime team inbox: DRCT@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk
Together we can beat Rural Crime.
Many Thanks
The Rural Crime Team
