Oil Price Jumps!

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

We have seen a noticeable jump in rates for this week due to the demand on suppliers leading up to Christmas and into the New Year. The weather over the last week has not helped with many suppliers struggling to keep up with demand with deliveries taking longer as drivers struggled with conditions.

Please can you ensure you have allowed plenty of time for your delivery? Delivery this time of year is subject to weather conditions and supply. Please do not allow your tank to get too low before you order.

Please note we will not be ordering next weekend. Our next order is the weekend of 31st December.

We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:

Rate: £0.4842 per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Santa Sunday – this weekend!!!

Christmas Walk to Brassington

Today’s Bin Collection

We have received this from DDDC-

BIN COLLECTIONS UPDATE: All our waste & recycling crews are out today as scheduled. Conditions have improved but some roads in the district continue to be affected by snow and ice. The majority of scheduled collections took place on Tuesday, but there were some areas where it was not possible to collect.

Yesterday we also caught up with some of Monday’s collections and today we have additional vehicles out collecting outstanding collections from Monday and Tuesday.

The message to residents continues to be to leave out bins please and our crews will return as soon as possible, so long as it is safe to do so.

It is likely that we will have to complete the catch-up by working on Saturday.
Your patience is appreciated. Thank you.

Road Grit

We have been asked to remind people that grit in the roadside bins is for use on public roads and pavements. Concerns have been expressed to the Parish Council that some people are using the grit for their own driveways.

Some of the grit bins belong to DCC and some to Parwich Parish Council. There is information on the bins on who to contact if they are empty.

PTA Fund Raiser

Parwich PTA are currently selling a quiz sheet based on Derbyshire Places. A lovely little challenge for the festive period.

Thank you to Alex S for alerting us to this nationwide event.

The National Trust  are opening their doors to anyone who presents a National Lottery ticket or scratch card on Wednesday 13th December. It is to say thank you to National Lottery players for all the money they have raised which helps them look after places with important conservation projects.
Some places may not be open all the time in December. It is best to check individual web pages before setting out. For participating local venues please visit the National Trust website.

Michelle’s Seasonal Tipple

IMG_0801It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas which has got me in the mood for my favourite Christmas tipple! Lots of us enjoy a glass (or two) of mulled wine at this time of the year and are familiar with the European Glühwein. My favourite is the Finnish variant which they know as Glögi, a real winter warmer.

Ingredients

Blackcurrant juice with some sugar in it, 0,5 litre
Cinnamon bar, 2 to 4 pieces
Whole cloves, about 10
Cardamom seeds, about 8
Allspice whole, 4 pieces
Star anise, 1-2 pieces
Sugar, 10 to 12 cubes
Red wine, 0,5 litre
Vodka, 0,5 dl
Some raisin and almonds

Method

1. Heat up the juice with all the spices slowly to boil – give it 30 min or so.
2. Let it cool a little. Add some sugar to your liking and then add the red wine.
3. Reheat quickly. Add vodka just before serving.
4. Pour to glasses through a sieve, add raisins and almonds.

As an alternative try a white Glögi substituting apple juice for the blackcurrant.

This recipe was shared with me by some good friends in Finland. I’m sure many of you have your own favourite Christmas tipple, please share them with us in the comments section (or just leave me a bottle at the Legion 😘)

Season’s Greetings

Michelle

First Responders

Parwich First Responders held  their AGM on Monday 4 December. The chair reported that over the past year there had been 9 callouts. The role that the First Responders carry out supports the community until ambulance services can get to patients. Only 8 fully trained people are now in post so recruiting new people to undertake the First Responder role is crucial if we are to provide as much cover as possible for Parwich and its surrounding areas. 2 people have already expressed an interest in becoming a first Responder and we are investigating  when we could arrange  training. If we could get more people interested it would be good for everyone to train together.  In the New Year we are planning to have an information session so people can along and see what is involved.  Details will follow once this is arranged

Happy Christmas from Lu

Lu Matthews is wavering Christmas cards this year and giving the money that she would have spent to Rannoch Linnell, who is running the gruelling Marathon des Sables. He is trying to raise £10,000 for the charity Walking with the Wounded. Please help support him too. Lu wishes you all a very Happy Christmas.
