p.11 – Landslip repair work is ready to begin – a massive engineering project will soon be ready to start.  The work on the B5056 at Fenny Bentley is reported to be due to start shortly after Christmas.  Do we believe that the road will re-open next year?

New Policing Arrangements

In the October Police Newletter you will read about the changes in policing for our area. The Command Team have decided to move PC Ian Cooper to Ashbourne, where there is a higher level of Crime and Antisocial Behaviour. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian for his support and work in our area, especially with his proactive help to Parwich.org.

We would like to welcome Police Community Support Officer – PCSO Kate CLEVELEY who will now be covering our area and look forward to seeing her in the village.

Just a few bits to report this month, which includes some good news, and some slight changes to the Police Staff covering the area. We have also had our Safer Neighbourhood Team Governance meeting/Community Forum, which again saw a good attendance with representatives from a number of villages.

Speeding and other traffic concerns.

At the last Parish Council meeting (held on September 8th), PC Cooper presented various pieces of information regarding various traffic concerns.

Following the concerns raised at the open meeting, a speed survey was carried out. Statistically, the speed and the number of incidents reported do not highlight a problem.

The Parish Council would like to make people aware of the need to report any concerns.

Everyone is Welcome

It was good to see Tom and Camilla making a special guest appearance on last night’s Strictly Come Dancing, dancing a typically fun-filled routine to “If They Could See Me Now” from the musical Sweet Charity. Fast forward to 3:55 to start watching them.

A successful September Soirée.

Martin C writes:

We had a very successful evening. With an audience of over 110, we raised over £500. £100 will go to St Peter’s Choir in Nottingham (who are raising funds to build a new organ
for their church), and the rest will go to the Parwich St. Peter’s Restoration Fund.

Patti B writes:

This really was a very enjoyable evening. We are very lucky to have had such excellent musicians and choristers in our tiny village. If they had been performing in London, we would have had to pay a small fortune for tickets. As it was, our tickets even covered a glass of wine and nibbles. Thank you to everyone that organised and helped.

What a fantastic fortnight.

A mystery villager seems to have interfered with the nice smooth concrete painstakingly smoothed out by workmen who are constructing the new substation. A team of crack investigators have been working to determine who might have done such a dastardly deed. DNA evidence has been taken, the area has been checked for fingerprints and CC camera footage from around Parwich has been examined. All to no avail.

If anyone has any idea who the identity of this individual may be, please let us know. Click on ‘continue reading’ to see the evidence…..

Temporary Blockage of Smithy Lane

Message from Mike and Sue H:

Our LPG tank is due to be replaced on Thursday 24th September, probably in the morning. This requires lifting gear and the road by our house is narrow. The Smithy Lane route in and out of the village will in all likelihood be temporarily blocked whilst this is done.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Macmillan coffee morning – 25 September

Macmillan

Sandra and Rebecca invite you to a Macmillan coffee morning on Friday 25th September at School View from 9am – 12 noon. Donations of cakes and raffle prizes would be much appreciated.

Plinthtastic!

Our very own blogmeister Mike A has just had his 60 minutes of fame on the famous 4th plinth at Trafalgar Square. The opportunity was provided by Antony Gormley’s One and Other Project, which puts the people of the UK in a place normally reserved for statues of kings and generals. Mike’s performance can be seen by clicking here.

Mike Plinth 1

To the uninitiated, it may look like Mike is jigging around aimlessly. For those in the know, the performance is transformed with a wonderful soundtrack. You can dance along with Mike by clicking here and pressing the ‘play’ button at the exact moment Mike says “Go!”. You can see random people in the crowd dancing – they’ve downloaded the soundtrack onto their mp3 players and are grooving along with Mike.

Good on you Mike – wot a dancefest!

Butterfly partyAll are welcome to come to coffee at Mandy’s house – 3 Rathbone Croft – on Wednesday 23 September from 11am til 1pm.  Mandy is raising money for Children’s Hospices UK.  The coffee morning is part of a nationwide event organised by Phoenix called the Butterfly Tea Party which is aiming to raise £25,000 for Children’s Hospices.  Phoenix cards will be on sale – if you cannot come on the morning but wish to support this event, please feel free to contact Mandy (778) to place an order with Phoenix.

This week’s Stunner

ANT16SepThis week I’ve remembered to cover the Stunner – I clear forgot last week.  Don’t forget you can see it online or buy it from Janet in the Sycamore.  Of local interest this week:

p.2 – Collision at crossroads – for those of you going into Ashbourne via the ford, there has been another crash at the notorious junction with the road through Tissington village and the A515.

p.22 – Parwich Church – a reminder about the September soiree concert this Saturday in the church.

p.39 – Darts Winter League – with the winter darts league under way, Parwich Legion beat The Shepherds 5-4.

September Soirée

St Peter’s Church Choir from Nottingham comes to St Peter’s in Parwich- it is the choir from one of Christopher’s new churches. Also playing are the Essentially Brass Quintet. Like the last concert, it is set to be an excellent evening.

Illegal Rave

Thank you to a local resident for supplying the following:

Thought it may be of interest to let you know that on Saturday night (and very early hours of Sunday) 12th September in a quarry near Roystone Grange/Minninglow there was an illegal rave.

The music was extremely loud and started around 1am and continued to 5.30am. We reported it to the police and they have confirmed today (Monday) that it was an illegal rave and they have gained intelligence on it and have names and vehicle details but are unable to do anything.

It is perhaps worth people being vigilant as I think the organizers send someone round scouting for a good place a couple of nights before the event.

There are no further details on the Derbyshire Police website, but if you have anything to report the contact numbers are

  • Emergency – 999
  • Crimestoppers – 0800 555 111
  • Ashbourne Police Station – 0345 123 3333

The sessions provide the opportunity to work alongside a professional artist, with the aim to create finished pieces of work from initial conception through development of your ideas and working practice. Continue Reading »

Help! Can you sew?

Parwich Primary School has bought about 50 hi-visibility jackets for the children to wear out and about on school trips.  They need parents or relatives or friends or any willing volunteers to sew on the parwich school logo badges.  Would you offer to sew on 5 or 10 or 15 or 20?  Call the school on 245 or Lynne on 474 if you would be able to help a little or a lot. hi-visThank you. school badge

Everyone is invited to a meeting in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday 22nd September at 7pm, it is an opportunity to meet the builders who will be building our new Memorial Hall.  You can find out about the building programme  and how they are going to keep the village informed about work and progress.  A letter will be coming to each household from Wildgoose Construction over the next week, giving more details.  So do try and keep this evening free and come along and join us.

Missing gas canister

Did anyone happen to take a barbecue gas canister from outside the memorial hall at the end of July (after the school summer party on the last day of term)?   The half-full tank was replaced by an empty one – no doubt by someone thinking it had been abandoned.  If you have the canister, please email the blog or call Lynne on 474 so I can put the missing tank back in touch with its owner!  Thank you.
