The Parwich Memorial Hall funding group are currently preparing a grant application which, if successful, will make our new Hall entirely self-sufficient for all its energy needs – as well as generating extra electricity for the village.
Due to our location at the end of a valley, residents will be aware of how windy it can get – particularly on the top of Parwich Hill. Therefore, the plan is to capture this wind energy by installing a wind turbine on top of the hill.
Thanks to the latest technological advances, modern wind turbines are much less visually intrusive than they used to be – as you can see from our artist’s impression.

As a team we have decided to keep our eyes open for any credit Crunch Busting Ideas – basically anything that might save you money. So if you come across anything in the area that might help someone save some pennies. These ideas may cover eating out, so include places like Derby (lunch ideas), Buxton, Bakewell etc., they may be savings on food or an incredible holiday or flight deal – just email them into parwich@hotmail.com – but don’t forget to include where these offers can be found – in which newspaper or on which website.
An excellent source of offers is to register with the Martin Lewis Money Saving website, you will receive an email every Wednesday & you can click on the Restaurant section to find out which eatery will save you the most money.
Here are a couple to get us going. Continue Reading »

Bertie Linnell – the young blonde hooligan – has for the last year been the Captain of Ashbourne Rugby Club U9 team. Yesterday he lead them to the final of the NLD (Notts, Leics and Derbys – for the non sporting types….) competition. Unfortunately they were then defeated by West Bridgeford but Bert has consistently been man of the Match and we may have found an outlet for his energies!
Ashbourne RUFC says “The Under 9’s travelled to Newark to participate in the Notts, Lincs & Derbys Cup to take on the best teams from across the three counties. Most of the opposing teams are from much bigger and more established clubs, but Ashbourne displayed maximum quality, effort and determination to come away with a well-deserved runners up spot.
The defeat in the final cannot disguise what was a fantasic achievement by the team to be recognised as the second best Under 9’s team from across the three counties of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

At Andrew Robinson’s request, John Fuller-Sessions has put together a splendid photographic catalogue of the stained glass windows inside St. Peter’s Church.
There are 41 images in total. Some are of the full windows, and some are detailed close-ups.
As the images look best in “full-screen” mode, we have loaded them into a slideshow on Flickr.
Please click here to view the slideshow – which will look even better if you press F11 on your keyboard before clicking the link. (When you’ve finished viewing, simply press F11 again.)
You can select individual images for viewing by clicking this link – or alternatively by starting here, and clicking each “next image” in sequence.
Lastly, all of these images have been archived on our ever-popular PHOTOS page – which is now once again up to date with all of our recent photography.

Stuart Dixon travels widely, sharing his love of the traditional English garden in “down to earth” talks to horticultural societies. He is a Royal Horticultural Society, Hardy Plant NCCPG & GCS and National Trust speaker, much of his knowledge and expertise being gained from the restoration of his own 18th Century garden at Hebb’s Farmhouse near Nottingham, which has been featured on BBC TV. So come and enjoy an informative evening organised by The Horticultural Society – Another Community Event.

Another report from Parwich’s own sports reporter, Nia:
Yet again the ladies of Parwich (in the most flexible method of interpretation…) remain victorious in their conquest of the Leek Netball league. With Wendy swanning off to the sunshine, Olivia was drafted back onto the team but Jan seemed not to need any support in the D as she set a new 95% scoring record. Continue Reading »

Apologies for the late posting of this item due to forgetfulness on the part of the person responsible. Unless I have missed things out, there is very little local news in this week’s edition. As usual, you can buy the Stunner from Janet in the pub or read the e-edition online although at the time of publishing this post, the News Telegraph website was still linking to last week’s version.
p.6 – Trailer safety flaw led to suspension of licence – The owner of a tractor business in Alsop had his licence suspended for almost a week after failing to ensure his vehicles were safely maintained. Continue Reading »

Is it Sainsburys or Tesco? If so, please collect any schools vouchers they offer you and either drop them in at Parwich Primary school or pass them on to anyone with kids at the school. Every little helps and, if you’ve done a big shop, it helps even more! Thank you.

This is the final Lent Lunch of the year and it is being held at John & Marion Fuller-Sessions – Orchard Farm. Pop in anytime on Thursday 26th March from 12.30pm, with lunch finishing at 2pm. (If you know that you are definitely coming let Marion know on 519 – but otherwise just pop in – there will be plenty of food!!) Enjoy a range of cheeses, pates and bread – more fun that making your own lunch.
You don’t have to be a member of the Church to enjoy this lunch; it is a community event to raise funds for Church repairs (via a donation for the lunch). After all, we like seeing the Church in our village – so let’s help keep it in good repair. Everyone is welcome, including children.

This evening saw the AGM of the Memorial Hall Management Committee, with an excellent turnout, around 70 – so more chairs had to be found. We were brought up to date with the current level of money raised, another £198,000 has been applied for through a range of grants and trust – we are awaiting news of these and there are more grants being applied for. There was a vote of thanks to the committee for all their hard work with a spontaneous round of applause. A few questions were asked and clarification given by the Chair – Mike GP.
Once the Chair and Treasurers reports had been read it was election time. With no-one else wishing to stand the existing committee were re-elected – Mike GP, Amanda, Ed, Sandra & Janet.
The committee is swamped with work and it would be an enormous help if there were a few more offers of help to write letters and submit bids to different grant bodies. It is not a difficult task, you will be given details of which grant to apply for, sample paperwork of other bids that have gone in & then you just have to write the bid to fit the grant criteria. Nia & I are currently working on a bid with a group of 12-18 year old’s applying for funding available to the Youth. Amanda wrote a letter last week to Dales Housing and they have just awarded the new build £1500 from their Community Fund. So you see it is really worthwhile – can you spare a few hours to do the same – Ring Amanda 344.

On Monday morning the children of Stepping Stones Pre-School showed how much they appreciate us Mums (and Grandmas), by inviting us along and showcasing their paintings of their Mums and telling us why they love us.
(My special talent apparently, is making dinner. Thank you Wyatt x)
Then as if that wasn’t enough, they treated us to refreshments: homemade fairy and butterfly cakes and orange juice, all aided by their very special supervisors, Penny and Felicity.
The whole event left all of the Mums feeling very special, and quite rightly so!!!
