Rayburn Service

Our cottage on Lenscliffe has an oil-fired Rayburn that needs to be serviced. Our usual company, Norton’s, seems to have gone out of business. Does anyone know of a good engineer who could do this for us?

Breast screening, Ashbourne

Re: mobile breast screening unit outside St Oswalds Hospital in Ashbourne

I am not sure if you have noticed that this unit is back and sited outside St Oswalds – it will be there for the next couple of months.  I am sure you are aware – anyone between 50 and 70 should be  invited for a mammogram every 3 years .. now the unit is here it may be worth checking if you are due and also if you have been invited for a scan.

WOMEN OVER 70 – It has recently been drawn to my attention by a friend of Val K that although they stop calling you for screen when you reach  70 ….you can still get a screen  every 3 years by making a phone call .  See https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/breast-screening-for-women-aged-71-or-over/71-or-over-you-can-still-have-breast-screening-if-you-choose .  Our local area phone number is 01332 785 691.   May be appropriate for you or for a relative or a neighbour.  I rang last week and had a scan this week – no problems and the staff in the mobile unit were delightful.  Results will be through in 2 weeks.

If you wish to go for a screen but have difficulties arranging it or getting there do please let us know and we will try to help.

Stay well.  Jean and Martin C 529

St Peter’s Church

We’ve had several emails into the blog giving thanks and sharing pictures of the flowers at St Peter’s Church, and so we thank Richard T and David G for the below pictures and Richard T for the message:

‘Dressed for the licensing of the new Vicar today by the Bishop of Repton. Looks beautiful and thank you to all those who devoted so much effort.’

🌸Church Flowers🌸

On Saturday St Peter’s church was decorated with flowers for the licensing ceremony of our new vicar which took place on Sunday.

The church looked and smelled absolutely stunning! I personally want to thank everyone who helped.

Lots of people came on the day to arrange flowers, clean, sweep up, tidy, polish, weed the path, make us cups of tea and coffee, and helped to make the church look so beautiful.

Thank you also to everyone for such generous donations of flowers and foliages.

I think you will all agree, it was a job well done 😊

The flowers will be in church until next weekend, so please call in if you’re passing by.

Please Control Your Dogs

Last summer one of my hens was killed by a local dog being walked by it’s owner. My hen was on the path which runs alongside my property and the hen should not have been out.  It has just happened again, involving two other local people with dogs.

Occasionally my free range hens push their free ranging to the limit and may get over the wall onto the path.  They shouldn’t be there but at the end of the day they don’t pose a danger to any passing dogs. You would hope that the dogs wouldn’t pose a danger to the hens but it seems that there is a growing lack of awareness of other animals and livestock and an inability to train dogs to simple commands  such as “leave” or “lie down”.  I freely admit that I know very little about training a dog but it strikes me that the huge increase in dog ownership has not moved hand in hand with an appreciation of the need to train and control the dogs. Whether in the village or in a field, if you can’t control your dog in the presence of other animals (hens, cats, lambs etc.), the dog should be on a lead.

The more people who come along to help, the more can be done!

We have received the following from Charlotte Bradbury-Wilkinson. If you have any information please contact them direct..

To the person or people who think it is acceptable to drive onto our land and deface it in such a manner this is unacceptable. Yes cobblers nook lane runs through as a through route but it does not give people the right to do this to our land! On the field next to this was a group of dry cows, some of which are due to calve soon. This happened last night as the gates were left open incase the dry cows got out so they would go onto the adjacent field and not wander off down the lane or onto the road. Any one with details to whom may have done this please contact me.

The next meeting of Parwich Parish Council will be held on Wednesday the 19th July 2023 at 7:30 pm in the Memorial Hall.

The agenda is here.
