Message from the Legion Committee:
Our decision to hold the reopening celebration on the 25th June was based on the hope that the Government Roadmap out of the COVID-19 restrictions, would be lifted on the 21st. We now know this will be delayed until 19th July.
Therefore with regret, the committee have made the decision that we cannot comfortably proceed with the celebration until restrictions are lifted and so this event will be rescheduled until then. A new date will be announced shortly.

 IMPORTANT MESSAGE – waste & recycling collectionsWe’re acutely conscious that bin collections in some parts of the Dales have not been happening to schedule in recent weeks – and we have demanded that our waste and recycling contractor, Serco, produces a workable catch-up plan no later than first thing tomorrow.There are some mitigating circumstances – a national shortage of HGV drivers is impacting not only on Serco locally but also on collection services provided by many other local authorities. However, we will not allow the current situation to continue and will take legal action if necessary to ensure your collections happen as contractually agreed by ourselves and Serco. It is likely that Serco’s catch-up plan will involve weekend working and we will post more information on all our communications channels as soon as we have clarity. We are obviously taking a lot of calls about missed waste collections right now, which we completely understand, but if you could please hold off until we have a catch-up plan to communicate, that would be much appreciated. Thank you – and our sincere apologies. |

A gorgeous litter of 8 puppies. 2 x Black/Tan and 6 x Dapple.
Mum (who can be seen) is a pedigree standard black/tan with blue merle running through and dad is a pedigree KC registered chocolate miniature. I will add photos of both. Both parents are in great health and mum and babies have been brought up around family.
Puppies will leave with 1st vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and with a sample food gift pack.
Deposit of 20% is required to secure a puppy.

..In other words, Tuesday’s match was officially to be played away against Hope Works, owing to their green not being available however the match was played in Parwich. Although deemed as underdogs here we got stuck in thinking we could pull it off. A rattling good encounter, though, saw us eventually beaten by the narrow margin of 73-65. I did note, incidentally, that although the official away side it was Parwich folk that made all the tea. Which brings me on to say that if anyone heard an ear-splitting crash on Tuesday around 7-30 it was only yours truly dropping a wood on the pyrex tea tray and showering the entire pavilion with tiny cubes of glass. Could have happened to anyone….
In the Thursday league we were back at Parson’s Croft where the situation had a rather different outcome; a rampant Parwich side further extending their lead at the top of the table with a 145-95 victory over Youlgreave. We must have played well as a unit as I understand Youlgreave to have some particularly experienced bowlers among their ranks, so it was certainly a result to celebrate. By a quirk of fate from the fixtures organisers the same opponents will be our visitors again this coming week when we entertain them in the Tuesday League. The Carnival and Recreation Committee are keen to carry on the tradition of a BBQ at the legion after the Treasure Hunt on Wakes Sunday, serving from 7.30pm, however we have hit two major stumbling blocks!! Firstly the legion BBQ is broken and secondly we have no cooks! We are therefore asking for anyone who has a BBQ they are willing to loan for the evening and even better willing to cook please let me know. The Committee will sort out all the food and be on hand to help with taking money and so on. The funds raised are an essential part of keeping Wakes and other Village events happening so fingers crossed there is a BBQ fairy out there. If you can help either tell Karen W or email me lucywigley@googlemail.com.

Church tomorrow
Update: There’s been a decision this afternoon that tomorrow we will be holding Morning Prayer at 9.30am, not Holy Communion. The meetings will continue after the service as planned. Apologies for the late change.
At 9.30am There’s a service of Holy Communion in St Peter’s in the village. This will be followed at 1030 by the Annual Vestry Meeting, a public meeting to elect the churchwardens, then the Annual Parochial Meeting for those on the church Electoral Roll. At the second meeting we elect other officers and consider accounts etc. This year we will also have a discussion about the pattern of services in our church.
There’s no Zoom service at 6pm this week.

The next meeting of Parwich Parish Council will be held on Wednesday the 16th June 2021 at 7:30 pm in the Memorial Hall.
This will be followed by the Parish Annual Meeting. Village Organisations are invited to submit a written report for the past year to be added to the Parish Council’s Website Archive if they wish, rather than attend in person.
Parish Councils are no longer permitted to meet using video conferencing so these meetings must be held in person.
Risk management measures including sanitising and distancing will be in place. The number of attendees may not exceed 30. All attendees will be required to wear face masks (unless exempt).

The Horticultural society is holding the Village Show this year on Sunday, 12th September. The full schedule will be published later but for those keen photographers out there, here are the categories for the photographic section.The categories are the same for all age groups but obviously the children’s photos will be judged separately.

This is just a reminder that Wakes is only 17 days away eeekkkk! The fancy dress competition will start at 5pm with the judges driving around to your houses or open spaces – just make sure you let me know where you will be!
Floats will meet at 6pm on the Village Green to be judged and then do a loop around the village. Anyone who is in fancy dress please feel free to follow the floats so everyone can see your costumes (please social distance). The parade will then end at the Village Green.
So now is the time to get your thinking caps on and let me know where you will be and what category you are entering (see programme below) either on Messenger or email lucywigley@googlemail.com

The Parish Council would just like to let residents know that on Friday 11th June we will be welcoming Sheffield Caravan Club back to Parsons Croft after a year’s absence. They will be making their own arrangements to run the site within the guidelines for managing the risk of coronavirus infection.
Notts Caravan Club will also be returning for Wakes Week although the usual joint activities are not expected to be possible.

Only one match this week as Parwich Bowling Club had a bye on Tuesday evening, giving us all a chance to watch Yes Minister and an opportunity to see what really goes on behind the corridors of power….
Thus it was a refreshed and rested team that set off for Bakewell on Thursday afternoon. There’s no doubting that Baedeca’s Wella (as originally known) is a lovely old historical town, however best not visited during half-term following a bank holiday Monday; the place was heaving with holidaymakers and finding a parking space took a considerable chunk out of our day.
A rattling good contest it was though when the match got under way. Bakewell’s somewhat eccentric green, tucked away in an attractive setting behind carefully tended gardens and between architectural gems, is not so much of a smooth crown in its topology but more resembling of a scale model of the Dark Peak. Woods in pursuit of the jack are apt to come off Kinder and be diverted along the Snake Pass! But it was great fun, it was a fine place to play nonetheless and, surrounded by benches full of enthralled tourists resting after their lunchtime tarts and puddings, we bowled well as a unit. After several close pairings that swung one way then another Parwich were eventually narrowly beaten by 136 to 119, but, according to the published League table on Friday, retain our top position.
The coming week sees us scheduled to play at home twice, Tuesday evening and Thursday afternoon. Let’s keep it going Parwich!

Church tomorrow
St Peter’s, Parwich is part of a group of five village churches. There isn’t a service in St Peter’s tomorrow but there are in three of the other churches and one on Zoom.
- 9.30am in St Leonard’s Thorpe: A service of Holy Communion.
- 11.00am in St Mary’s Tissington: Family Service
- 3.30pm in St. Michael & All Angel’s Alsop-en-le-Dale: Churches Count on nature, joining in a celebration across the UK of the wildlife in churchyards
Please bring a mask unless you are exempt. There will be social distancing and much care for each other.
There will also be a 6pm service of Evening Prayer on Zoom using words from the Northumbria Community, There will be opportunity to sing loudly in your own homes without anyone hearing you.

It’s that time again! If you can spare an hour or two tomorrow (Sunday) morning please come the the bus shelter around ten or just find us around the village. Bring your own ideas and tools if you want or find ask of us who will help you find something to do. Gardening, litter picking, kerb weeding and putting up benches are all possible. Litter pickers amd bags will be available for those who want them.
All nice and outdoors and socially distanced.

A fresh batch of plants is now for sale outside Rookery House in aid of Parwich and District Horticultural Society. We have raised £200 so far and would love to reach £250 in the next couple of weeks before winding sales down.
Come and choose from Rudbeckia, dwarf Lupin, Salvia, Cosmos and more.The last tomato plants are begging to be planted out. Please save them from ultimate recycling in the compost bin!There is also an Azalea in need of a good home .

Derbyshire Dales residents urged to report dog-fouling hot-spots
Derbyshire Dales District Council is urging residents to report areas in the district where dog fouling is causing a problem.
“Although 9 out of 10 dog owners pick up dog mess after their pets, that still leaves a significant number who don’t,” said Councillor Chris Furness, Chairman of the Community & Environment Committee at the District Council.
“We’re encouraging residents to help us by putting dog mess in the bin and reporting problem areas to us online.”
Community Development Officer, Emma Mortimer added:
“With the information from residents we will target those areas with the worst problems by patrolling and talking to dog owners to encourage responsible behaviour and putting up additional signs.
“To help encourage dog owners to pick up after their pets we are providing dog-mess bag dispensers on our land where we know there is a problem. Bagged dog mess can be disposed of in any litter bin.”

Update: this has now found a new home
FREE – boys bike, originally from Halfords, has been very well used, little bit of white paint on it, back tyre is a little flat but may just need pumping up as it hasn’t been used in a while. I think it’s a child’s size 16 inch suitable for 8-11 years depending upon the height of the child.
