Sheep Theft at Hartington

email_template_header

The current trend in livestock thefts has suddenly taken an alarming upward curve with a large scale theft last night.

A number of thefts – mostly sheep – have been reported lately, usually involving fewer than a dozen animals.

These are bad enough and pose a real threat to the livelihoods of the farmers, but last night 71 Texel ewes in lamb were taken from a field at Hartington.

This shows that we have a really serious problem in the area and we need your help.

First of all, if anybody saw some nocturnal activity on Hyde Lane at Hartington then please get in touch. 71 sheep take some shifting so we’re hoping someone will have seen something.

Secondly, please keep your eyes open and your mind set to inquisitive and don’t hesitate to ring the police if you see anything at all which gives rise to suspicion.

Finally, we need information. Someone knows who’s doing this or may at least have an inkling. There’s no honour in protecting a thief and any information will be treated with complete confidentiality.

Thanks in anticipation.

Oil Price Steady

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Suppliers have reported a slowdown in orders with the warm weather over the last few weeks and although Brent crude continues to hover around $65 a barrel, we have seen both rates and delivery times fall back this week.

TIP : Upgrade your fuel to premium fuel with exocet additive. Exocet additives lower carbon emissions, stabilises fuel, inhibit sludge formation in the tank and improves overall fuel performance. Additives can be purchase from the club shop. If you have an AGA them please ensure you order the cooker additive.

Cultural Heritage Lectures

Just outside our immediate area, this series of lectures by the South West Peak Landscape Partnership covers features which are found locally:

Cultural Heritage Spring Lecture Series brought to you by the South West Peak Landscape Partnership
What better way to spend an evening than learning about fire, foxholes, bullets and barrows? Or how about hearing tales of Anglo Saxons in the Staffordshire Moorlands?

You can learn about these topics – and many others – during a spring lecture series on cultural heritage, from renowned speakers, at Buxton’s Devonshire Dome. Tickets cost £5 and all proceeds go towards South West Peak Landscape Partnership’s Small Heritage Adoption and Barns & Buildings projects.

The Small Heritage Adoption Project is working to protect little-known pieces of history that are sometimes overlooked and ranges from boundary markers to lime kilns to Bronze Age burial mounds.

The Barns & Buildings project is focusing on field barns throughout the South West Peak and is working to record and in some cases restore these iconic features of the landscape.

Both projects rely on a group of dedicated volunteers who have the opportunity to train with and learn from local experts in cultural heritage and help protect the South West Peak’s unique history.

The lecture series will include:
12th March – There’s More to Walls by Master Craftsman Trevor Wragg;
19th March – Fire, Foxholes, Bullets and Barrows by SWP cultural heritage officer Dr Catherine Parker Heath;
26th March – Anglo Saxons in The Staffordshire Moorlands and the South West Peak by Harry Ball;
2nd April – Highways and Waymarkers by Jan Scrine of The Milestone Society;
9th April – Historic Mining in the South West Peak by Dr John Barnatt.

Window Cleaner Wanted

If you could let me know or pass my details to your window cleaner I’d be grateful
Thanks in advance

Duck Race 2019

It’s February!!

With the sound of lawnmowers audible around the village, and birds gathering nesting material, is Spring coming early this year?

This Ladybird and Peacock butterfly seem to think so!

Let’s hope the Starlings are not peckish!

Thank you David G for sending in these images from his garden today.

Selling but not Leaving

We are intending to put Blanche Meadow on the market in the spring. However we love living in the village and hope to find some other lovely house to make a home. If you are even vaguely thinking about selling a property – we would love to hear from you and would consider all sorts of options. Please give us a ring on 390206.

Oil Price – Up Slightly

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Brent Crude continues to press upward passing $67 a barrel this week as rumours the U.S. and China have started to sketch out the framework of a comprehensive trade deal, reducing the escalation in the trade war.

TIP : Over time water builds up at the bottom for the tank through condensation. To prevent this causing issues, I recommend using a water scavenger which will absorb contaminated water in the tank. It’s simple to use, just fix the cord to the tank and drop in the scavenger. For more information please visit the club shop.
