Christmas Trees from Bill’s….

Wednesday new Fish & Chips night

Don’t forget that during November the Fish & Chip van will be on the Green from 4.30pm to 7pm every Wednesday evening, starting tonight!

Speed Limits and Trafic Calming

Some of you may be aware that the Parish Council has been pursuing the possibilty of reducing the traffic speed limit through the village to 20 mph for some time. Derbyshire County Council have finally responded to the council. Unfortunately they have refused to reduce the speed limit to 20 mph but will install additional 30 mph repeater signs.

The Parish Council will have the opportunity to consider responding to this letter at the next Council meeting on the 21st of November. I’m sure the council would welcome any comments either here via the blog or directly to members of the council or Andrew Martin the clerk clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk

Oil Price Slightly Lower Again

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

OPEC and the U.S. are together adding enormous volumes of new supply just as Iranian oil is going offline and ahead of US Midterm Elections helping to lower crude to below $73 a barrel today. Added to this, the pound climbed further amid optimism about a Brexit deal, all helping to reduce the cost of kerosene a little further this week.

TIP : With colder weather upon us, I recommend ordering oil when you have either 35/40% left in your tanks or six weeks supply in winter conditions. This helps ensure you do not run out and also ensures sludge and water at the bottom of the tank is not stirred up when new fuel is added.

Therefore please order early and allow plenty of time for delivery. If you are low on oil then this order may not be suitable. Typical estim

You can help reduce harmful diesel emissions, CO2, danger and damage on our roads and to our villages by joining in with our group orders. In doing so we can reduce the number of heavy goods trucks driving through our towns and villages. We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:

Rate:  £0.5100 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Apples Everywhere

Apples everywhere …

During daytime I put a box with apples out at the bottom of the drive near Creamery Green. Please, please help yourselves! Some are perfect, others have the odd blemish.

Here is my favourite recipe for Dutch Apple Pie:

175 g margarine

300 g plain flour

a pinch of salt

3 tsp baking powder

100g caster sugar

1 egg

Line the bottom of a spring form (10 inch) with baking paper, mix the ingredients and line bottom & sides of the form with the mixture (you’ll need plenty of flour on your hands to stop the mixture from sticking to your hands).

Approx. 600-700 grams of peeled, cored and sliced cooking apples. Mix with some sugar, lemon juice and grated zest, sultanas and cinnamon. Mix. Push slices into inside of the pastry rim for firmness and use the rest to fill. Bake at approx. 170 C for approx. 30-40 minutes.

60 g granulated sugar

60 g margarine

60 g sliced almonds

Breadcrumbs (white – 2 slices)

Vanilla essence (a few drops)

Cinnamon

Mix, add as topping once the pastry rim starts to go brown. Bake for a further 10 minutes until golden brown.

It is renowned for displaying a wide ranging collection of exciting and thought provoking work including sculpture, printmaking, painting and drawing. If anyone happens to be in London, the exhibition is open until 1 pm on Sunday 4th November – click here for more details.

Oil Price Slightly Lower

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Oil prices continue to fall, below $78 a barrel today, on fears of a slowdown in global growth and oil demand going forward, amid unstable emerging markets , rising dollar, trade wars, and tariffs all weighing on oil demand growth expectations. Rising U.S. inventories have also further dampened the mood. However, with the pound falling further against the dollar, any drop in the price of crude has been offset with the cost of kerosene similar to last week.

With the nights now much colder, please order early and allow plenty of time for delivery. If you are low on oil then this order may not be suitable. Typical estimated delivery time frames are between 7 to 10 days working days.
