The government has launched a review into the UK’s national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONBs).
Nearly 70 years after the country’s national parks were first established, aimed at opening up the countryside and allowing more people to connect with nature, DEFRA announced on Saturday that an independent panel will look at how these “iconic landscapes” meet the UK’s needs in the 21st century.
The review will explore how access to parks can be improved, how those who live and work in them can be better supported and their role in growing the rural economy. In addition; part of the review will look at whether there is scope for the current network of 34 AONBs and 10 national parks to expand.

I have two Rowan trees looking for a new home. They are 8 to 10 feet tall with a nice upright shape and should grow to about 15 feet. They have creamy white flowers to come shortly and pale pink berries which last all winter.I made a mistake in my planting scheme and they are now surplus to requirements. They were potted up in March and could do with getting into the ground asap.Free to a good home or donations to the Legion garden (plants or cash) would be welcome in exchange.Nina Martin at Fernlea (opposite memorial hall)

Update on Leo.
Leo came home this morning in good health, little thin but happy.
Thank you for everyone for looking out for him over the past two weeks we are very grateful!
Thank you the Brett Family

Name: Leo
Hasn’t been home since Friday 25th of May, which is completely out of his character.
•He is a two year old, grey tabby cat.
•He has four white socks and is extremely friendly.
•He has no collar but is microchipped
•We are very worried about him because he has never gone missing before. He never really ranges too far from 3 Sycamore Cottages, but he does travel in all directions.
•Please can you check sheds, buildings or outhouses (in case he has been locked in).
•If you see him or know of his whereabouts please contact Eva Brett on 01335 390730/ 07903 269190. Even if it is not good news, please get in contact.
Thank you very much.
Thank you
The Brett Family

Friday football update
Hi all
I just wanted to update the village on where we are up to with Friday football and request your help.
Friday football continues to go very well. Each week we probably have 20+ children come… most of which are older children, however we have around 4-6 children under 7 years these children are a little small and too young to join the larger children for the main game and therefore they play their own game.
In terms of current support it’s just myself and James Farrar. My current work commitments mean that I am not available every week and rely very heavily on James. Without James’s dedication to the Friday football their would be no Friday football. Also note James has the necessary CRB checks to allow him to work with children.
Our club finances are good… we continue to be very careful how we spend your/our money, the main costs are new balls damaged by the hawthorns located behind the goals.
We will probably take a couple of weeks break over the summer holiday period to recharge our batteries we will post this on the blog nearer the time.
YOUR HELP
As stated above the Friday Football is currently James and myself… we desperately need additional helpers. These people do not need to have any football skills at all! They would be there to watch over and support the young children… ideally this should be the parents of the young children, but we would like others to help James or myself especially when one of us are unavailable. Our main interest is to safe guard the children and ensure they have a good time (and get them off their PlayStations!!!).
Our commitment and dedication to the Friday football hasn’t changed but we do need more help. If we are unable to get this extra help then we may need to restrict Friday football to the older children only, this is not something we would like to do.
Finally I take this opportunity to thank James for his continued time, dedication and support to the Friday football group…..
If you think you can help please get in touch…. thank you
Jason J

This notice is a call out to irresponsible dog owners.
Tonight at Friday football we were unfortunate to find that an irresponsible dog owner had allowed their dog to use the goal area as a toilet…
Dog fouling is not a criminal offence, but not picking up your dogs mess is!..
I have informed the Parish Council of this matter and know that we will have their support to eradicate this disgusting behaviour.
I am sure that most people know that handling dog faeces can cause irreversible blindness in young children, I therefore ask all dog owners who use Parsons Croft to exercise their dogs… please, please, please exercise them away from the football pitch and away from the pavilion…. and pick up!
Thank you for your support
Jason

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Just when you thought that the Bowls Club twaddle had dried up you get hit by two weeks in one! Serves you right. There are some really tight matches for some reason this season with the odd point or so winning or losing.
Tuesday League.
Home – Matlock Bath – 15 May – 6.00pm
The topic of conversation was about loo’s of all things this week. Having played on the 50 pence green next to the mining museum for years it looks as though the Matlock Bath Club could cease. Some bright spark on the local Council has decided that they will close the public toilets, also next to the museum. What the general public in Matlock Bath will do after 4 o’clock doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination! Keep your fingers crossed, and possibly legs crossed, that some sense will prevail. The bowls, however, was really very good. Matlock got off to a flying start winning the first two games with ease, 42 – 28. Our intrepid Captain started the charge back grabbing victory by one point. All down to our Edith and Rick, who dear reader came through again with a stonking win 21 – 8. When all was added up the match result was a draw 70 points apiece.
Home – Whitworth Park A – 22 May – 6.00pm.
Again for a couple of matches now we have been blessed with gorgeous weather and tonight was no exception. It was truly beautiful down on Parsons Croft and the bowls wasn’t too bad either. On, thankfully, very few occasions you come across a game where, however hard you try, you cannot win. Dennis and Clara E had such an experience in this game. Tactics can play a large part in a bowls game and particularly where you know your opponents cannot win however hard they try. Corner to corner on a bowls green is a very long distance and Clara and Dennis’s opponents used this method. Needless to say, unfortunately they did not win. Cavalry was awaiting just over the crown of the green and our three other pairs all won handsomely. Parwich 63, Whitworth 59. Take that.
Next match – Away – Bakewell – 29 May – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Wirksworth – 17 May – 1.45pm.
Although we lost the doubles two games to one, thanks to a good win by Dawn and Audrey we were only 7 points down. Parwich 47, Wirksworth 54.
The singles was a whole new matter altogether. Again this week, because of holiday absences we only had 11 players in total. With very judicious pairing, total luck really, by our stand in Captain John H, we pulled it off again. Romping home 88 points to 59 with Harry B and Edith leading the way. Up until this match Wirksworth hadn’t lost, but we got a really excellent win, Parwich 135, Wirksworth 113. I get the feeling that it will be a totally different story on their green later in the season.
Away – Bradwell – 24 May – 1.45pm
Bradwell are top of the League and going great guns. Although we lost the doubles games Tony and Liz had a very good win 21 – 20. Other good scores meant we were still there at 62 – 51 down. The singles as you avid readers will know is where we shine. Unfortunately somebody forgot to bring the Brasso or was it Duraglit. For the first time that I can recall we
only won one game, well done Audrey B. Although we were beaten by a better side we still got over 100 points, just. Bradwell 149, Parwich 103.
Next Match – Home – Matlock Park – 31 May – 1.45pm.
I am reliably informed that a very, very good time was had by all when the Oddfellows invaded the green last Saturday. Would that we could encourage them to come down every week to play for us in the leagues. Come you guys you know it makes sense.
John B.

UPDATE: I have found him!
He was near Lee and Sam’s in some shrubbery on the other side of the Brook. He is pretty shaken up so am guessing he had a really bad scare but he seems physically fine. He was really near to where our youngest cat went missing in November.
Thank you so much to everyone who got in touch.

The third round of the quiz tournament last Tuesday again saw the Trophy Thieves take the lead, but with two new teams there was more competition.
The Final on 19th June will see the Trophy Thieves and the Quizzly Bears as the two consistent teams competing for overall winner of the tournament – new teams welcome to join the challenge on the night.
