20mph Speed Limit poll results

Here is the summary of the poll results that we sent to Derbyshire County Council:

The community website parwich.org, as well as providing readers with a link to Derbyshire County Council’s online consultation on the idea of 20mph speed limits in residential areas, offered readers the opportunity to to participate in a poll on our own site, see

20mph Speed Limits?

Support for 20mph speed limits

The following figures were recorded at 12am Wednesday 30th September 2015:

In response to the general idea of 20mph speed limits in residential areas, 54 people participated with 78% in favour of the idea of 20mph speed limits.

There was also clear support for the idea of specific 20mph limits in our local villages:

  • Alsop en le Dale 77.5% (31 out of 40)
  • Ballidon 72% (23 out of 32)
  • Parwich 77% (33 out of 43)
  • Pikehall 70% (23 out of 33)

These recent poll results are consistent with issues raised by our readers over a number of years concerned about traffic and road safety in Parwich and Alsop en le Dale villages.

Compiled by the parwich.org team Fiona H, Stephen J, Lucy M, Emma S and Peter T

CC
Parwich Parish Council
Alsop en le Dale Parish Council

Note: It is still possible for people to vote on the online polls, but, as the County Council’s consultation closes today, any votes after midday today will not be included in their analysis.

  • Parwich 74%
  • Pikehall 70%

These are the results so far (recorded at 4pm Sunday 27th Sept).

Lunar Eclipse Tonight

It is another of those events with a funny name tonight, there will be a ‘Blood Moon’ and a ‘Super Moon’.

A ‘Blood Moon‘ is a total lunar eclipse, that is when the Earth blocks the sun’s light from the moon. This results in a reduction in light reaching the moon, making it go dim, but also the light that does reach the moon is filtered by the Earth’s atmosphere making it look red. The BBC website (click here for more information) says:
image

The eclipse will start at 01:11 BST, when the Moon enters the lightest part of the Earth’s shadow, known as the penumbra, and adopts a yellowish colour. At 03:11 BST, the Moon completely enters the umbra – the inner dark corpus of our planet’s shadow.

The point of greatest eclipse occurs at 03:47 BST, when the Moon is closest to the centre of the umbra. The sky show is over by 05:22 in the morning on Monday.

This particular lunar eclipse, the second this year, also coincides with a full moon, when the Moon’s orbit brings it closest to the Earth, making it larger in the sky, i.e. a ‘Super Moon‘.
