The blog’s usual photographers are unavailable during Wakes week. We should be delighted if anyone could take a few snaps and send them in to us. We try to cover all events during the week and all Wakes photos are very popular.

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
Can you believe we are half way through the season already; we do not seem to be getting our act together really this year as this week’s results indicate. At least the weather seems to have perked up a bit. Hope our bowls does too.
Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Ashwood Park – 16 June – 6.30pm.
Ashwood are just a few points below us in the league and we needed to be at our best, unfortunately we weren’t. Pat B and Dot H really showed how to do it by turning on the style and winning 21 – 8. Edith and Rick M also did their bit winning 21 – 18, but our other two pairs failed to make any impression on their opponents. The final result was a defeat by 68 points to 65. We will have to try and do much better in the second half of the season.
Next match- Home – Bradwell – 23 June – 6.30pm
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Matlock Park – 18 June – 1.45pm.
Having gained promotion last season we started very well with some good results, unfortunately our frailties are beginning to show and they did so again this week. Our only win in the doubles games was a resounding one by Harry B and Dennis E our two remaining pairs unfortunately could not get close to the opposition and we found ourselves down 58 – 34. Well our singles players will get us back on track, not this week. Only Dawn A managed a win, but it was a great win 15 – 8. Wish we had a few more Dawn’s, anybody know where we can find some?? John H, Tony A and Pat B put up a good fight, but to no avail and the final result was Matlock 141, Parwich 99. Less than 100 again this week. We were third from bottom but I fear we may well be holding everybody up this week.
Next match – Away – Hathersage – 25 June – 1.45pm.
Last Sunday we held one of our Club competitions which was won by Dawn and Edith remember them? The cups were presented by Alan Johnson on behalf of an old member Cynthia Brown who unfortunately had died at short while ago. Thank you Alan.
John B.

We are updating the Diary page next week, so if you have any Alsop, Ballidon, Parwich or Pikehall events (July, August & September) that you want to go in the Diary in time to be included in the Peak Five Churches Magazine’s July/August issue, please send them in by Wednesday evening (24th June). Please note that their is no separate August issue, so the Magazine’s readers will only get advance warning of September events if the are included in this issue.
Including our Diary in the Church magazine is important as it helps you reach some of those who are not on-line.
Please send Diary information to parwich@hotmail.co.uk or give it to me (Peter T tel. 287).
Thank you, Peter

Nia has inherited the organisation of this year’s Parwich Panoramic Five (Fell Race), and has asked us to post the following:
Would anyone like to be a marshal for the PP5 on Tues 4th Aug?
Chance to wear a high viz vest and look at sweaty men and women in lycra safe in the knowledge that being a marshal implies being the sensible one!
Contact me on 661 if anyone would like to help. Great fund raiser for Parwich Memorial Hall and the Royal British Legion (the national charity).
It is a great event and well worth supporting so do give Nia a ring.

Gadzooks! It’s the Great Tudor Farming Day! |
|
Families are invited to journey back in time to experience a day during the reign of Henry VIII at the Great Tudor Faming Day, in the Dove Valley, on Sunday July 5. The event runs from 12pm until 4pm at the Dove Valley Environmental Centre, Under Whitle Farm, at Sheen near Longnor. The event is paid for by donations. Peak District National Park ranger Lynn Burrow, one of the organisers, said: “If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Henry, or perhaps a beautiful Anne Boleyn, come and join us in 1537. You will meet the Horobyn family and share the everyday lives of these good country folk.” Children can dress in Tudor outfits and have a go at 16th century crafts including spinning, weaving, cooking, and reed light making. They can join in with farming, hedging, and ploughing. Families can watch a play, meet a Tudor quack (doctor), learn a traditional Tudor dance, write with a quill or take a tour of Tudor landscape and wildlife. There is also chance for people to discover how to research their own local history. The event is coordinated by Elspeth Walker of the Dove Valley Environmental Centre and run mainly by volunteers. People should bring a packed lunch (drinks will be available) and wear clothing suitable for a day outdoors. Wellies will be needed if it has rained the night before to avoid getting wet legs from long grass. The postcode for the Dove Valley Centre is SK7 0PR, or ordnance survey map reference SK107 635 (near Sheen). More information is available from 01298 84992 or 01298 83282, or by visiting www.peakdistrict.gov.uk or http://www.dovevalleycentre.co.uk |

I have just spotted this year’s first Hummingbird Hawkmoth in my garden and, amazingly, on exactly the same day of the year as in 2014!
You can find some more information about this impressive day-flying moth on the http://butterfly-conservation.org/ website, as well as a map with the ‘Migrant Watch’ records of the yearly sightings. The photo is from this website as I have not managed to capture the moth on my own pocket camera.

A couple of photos from Friday night’s film show, when Arnold Chadfield was presented with a tankard and ontributions towards a camera as a thank you from the audience of Parwich Film. Arnold has been involved in setting up and running Parwich Film for the last ten years, and is now retiring.
We wanted to mark our appreciation for his service to the Village and Community- from the early days when we started with Derbyshire Film, (a county scheme that rented out film projection equipment to rural villages), to the time when a £10,000 Lottery grant enabled us to buy our own equipment to use in the old Memorial Hall, and the time when we climbed up ladders each month to put up a screen in Parwich Church while the Hall was being rebuilt, to installing our own equipment in the new Hall- thank you Arnold!
