Possible Bin Disruption

Snow disrupted collections yesterday causing a backlog in collections.

The District Council’s  contractor Serco is advising householders to continue to put out containers on  the usual collection day for the rest of the week, but to be aware that  collections in some areas could be delayed by 24 hours as the catch-up takes  place.

Serco’s crews have  already committed to working this Saturday (19 January) to ensure, subject to  any further problems, all this week’s collections take place.

The parish council has been advised that chestnut trees at Nethergreen are diseased and pose a risk. Two of the trees are due to be felled early in 2013.

The parish council would like to receive opinions from Parwich residents regarding future proposals at the Nethergreen area, over a period of 4 weeks, from 7th January 2013.

The three options are:
1. No replacement trees at Nethergreen
2. Trees just on one side at Nethergreen
3. Avenue of trees on both sides of the road at the Nethergreen area

Hello Possums,

As the results of supermarket Christmas trading figures filter through, Morrison’s performed worst of all. As a result ‘Ant & Dec’ are to spearhead a new sales drive. A new gourmet range inspired by ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ will be on their shelves soon. Delicacies will include kangaroo testes in a delicate fragrant Thai inspired curry sauce with steamed maggot rice, tarantula tortellini, tempura giant mealy bugs with chilli dip, creamy ostrich brain risotto, cockroach Quiche and Crocodile Dundee cake.

A Chicago man, dressed in a chicken costume to highlight the plight of factory reared birds in overcrowded conditions, who stood vigil outside a Kentucky fried chicken outlet, has been admitted to hospital after being subjected to a barrage of sauce sachets, soft drinks cans and chicken nuggets, followed by a beating from customers. He now is recovering in intensive care with five hundred other patients. Continue Reading »

Tomorrow’s Village Lunch Postponed

Tomorrow’s Village Lunch at the Memorial Hall has been postponed because of the bad weather forcast for tonight and tomorrow. It is, snow permitting, to be held a week later on Monday 21st January.

weather13Jan13

Our Weatherman in the Village says:

Last week’s forecast was just about spot-on with drier conditions prevailing and the drop in temperatures occurring mid-week.

The cold temperatures look like continuing throughout the coming week, but with some precipitation Sunday night through Monday, which at these temperatures almost certainly means some snow. It’s hard to predict how much but anyone with a drive on Monday should be aware of possible disruption. This won’t be the end of it either – there is more possible later on in the week.

Sam Flower

One of Parwich’s longest standing residents died at New Year, our sympathy goes out to Val and her family.

The Funeral for my Dad, Sam Flower, will be held at 11am on Wednesday 16th January at St. Peters Church Parwich followed by lunch at the Memorial Hall to which all who attend the funeral are invited.

There will be a private cremation at Markeaton in the afternoon.

Hello Possums, Happy New Year to one & all.

What a dismal wet Xmas it was, even our fairy leapt to her death from the top of the Xmas tree. The Churchillian spirit was well in evidence as the Legion was plunged into darkness on Xmas Eve, prompting a candlelit evening of imbibing and jollity. Who needs electricity? Anyone receive a sat-nav for Xmas? “Take the first turning on the right, straight on, at the top turn right, take the second turning on the left, you have now reached your destination, Halford’s cash desk”. I received an amazing exotic carnivorous plant for Xmas that turned out to be vegetarian; on Boxing day morning I discovered that it had eaten itself.

Following the death of Diane Manfriden of Iowa at the age of 115 years, Jiroeman KImura is now officially the World’s oldest person. He was born in Japan in 1897 whilst Queen Victoria was still on the throne. He attributes his longevity to the three S’s: Sushi, Saki and yes you’ve guessed it Sunshine. It’s a jolly good job he doesn’t live here. Continue Reading »

weather13Jan6

Back from the Yorkshire coast, our Weatherman in the Village says:

Somehow we managed to miss a week – but it wasn’t very eventful except for the seemingly continuous rain which made Christmas and New Year a bit of a soggy affair.

The outlook for the coming week is thankfully a bit drier, and the present mild temperatures look to continue until mid-week when the temperature is forecast to drop toward more normal levels with a chance of overnight frosts returning. Tuesday and Thursday look like being the days with the highest chance of rain.

Telephones, or lack of!

As we enter our third week of no landline and have had numerous second rate excuses from BT, we were wondering if anyone else in the Blog area have lost their service – BT tell us ‘it is an extensive problem both nationally and locally’.

We are now on our fourth promised repair date, all in the last week and all unfulfilled.

Thanking you,
Jim T

Artist’s Canvas Available

Are you a student doing GCSE or A Level Art?  We have a very large unused stretched canvas  which is 50″ x 40″ free to anyone who can make use of it.
Best wishes,
Debbie Webster  390568

Update: The canvas now has a new home.

Hamster/Gerbil Cage looking for Occupant

Very sadly,  our final little gerbil died last year.  We aren’t planning on  any more small pets, and wondered if anyone would like the cage they lived  in.  It is a very large plastic tank with a double tiered caged area which  clips on top.  It is in perfect condition, and free to anyone who is either  thinking about getting a gerbil or hamster or already has one but would like to  upgrade the accommodation.  We also have a smaller cage which we used when  we cleaned out the big one, if anyone would like that.

Best  wishes,
Debbie Webster  390568

Lift to Derby?

Hi there,

Is anyone travelling to Derby on Friday the 4th in the morning? Allie and I wondered if we could grab a lift to the train station – we need to be there around 9:30 am or so.

Thanks,

Debbie Webster 390568

Have you seen Squeak?

Squeak has been missing since Thursday afternoon. She is a small black cat, with pointy features and a small white patch on her chest. She is timid and will run away when approached.

Please could you check your sheds/greenhouses/outhouses, in case she has been accidentally shut in.

If you see her, please could you contact Cheryl and Bob Woolley on 390617.

Update: Squeak has been found!
