Our Weatherman in the Village says:

Got the forecast bang on last week – with the weather breaking on Wednesday as forecast. Tuesday was a glorious day with beautiful spring sunshine and the temperature in Parwich hit a balmy 13.4C, but it was still a cold night with hard frosts Monday and Tuesday.

Winter is now firmly re-established for a few days with no immediate let up to the present conditions. Cold temperatures, snow showers and a bitter wind look like punctuating the week to come.

Lent Lunches

The poll in our previous post is so far indicating a majority support some form of part night lighting in Parwich. This further post contains individual polls for each street light in the Village.

You can have your say on which street lights are turned off for part of the night and which remain on by contacting:

  • Derbyshire County Council directly by Tuesday 2nd April 2013 on their Parwich consultation page  or by post to Street Lights, Derbyshire County Council, County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG
  • Parwich Parish Council prior to their next meeting on Wednesday 20th March 2013, by speaking to a councillor, by emailing the Clerk on sandra.hampson@hotmail.co.uk, or by attending the open section of their meeting.

or here at

  • PARWICH.ORG by completing the polls below and adding comments. We will then forward poll results and any comments to the County Council prior to the close of the Parwich consultation on the 2nd April.

The County Council’s rationale in deciding their proposals can be seen on their website, but they will not understand as well as us how we might be effected, so please fill in at least the polls for the lights outside your house.

There should be a separate poll below for each Parwich street light (based on plan circulated by Derbyshire County Council): Continue Reading »

Local Policing Priorities

The Derbyshire Alert community messaging service gives you the opportunity to contribute to the setting of priorities in your neighbourhood.
As you may be aware, each of our Safer Neighbourhood policing teams holds a meeting every three months to set priorities, offering the public the opportunity to select what their local police officers and other agencies target.
The aim of our e-forum is to make it easier for you to have a say on priorities.

Simply email alert@neighbourhoodalert.co.uk  and tell us what you would like your team to target. Continue Reading »

Although the Council have already consulted on the general issue, we felt our readers might like to have a say on whether ‘part night lighing’ in general is a good idea:

Parwich households should have received a letter today telling them that Derbyshire County Council is now consulting on turning some Parwich street lights off for part of the night. (Click here for the consultation timetables for Derbyshire communities.) Continue Reading »

Paul B’s Weedkiller Weekly #20

Hello Possums,

PopeWell that’s February done and dusted. The Catholic church was rocked by the recent announcement that his holiness Pope Benedict XVI is to take early retirement. It is widely rumoured however that Tony Blair may be throwing his mitre in the ring for the top job thus adding the Vatican to his growing property portfolio.

The lucrative world of after dinner speaking is abuzz with the prospect of Lord Prescott joining the circuit. He has optimistically hired an agent to procure some mouth watering engagements for him in the near future. ‘Prezza’ rose steadily through the ranks, defying working class prejudices, from ship’s steward to become Tony Blair’s right hand man, eventually joining the House of Lords, an institution he had long championed. His syntax and eloquent jousting at the dispatch box is legendary among the Labour Party. A veritable feast of anecdotal entertainment awaits, a postprandial extravaganza not to be missed. High pressure continues to dominate giving us much needed dry and calm conditions with only 0.05 inches of rain last Monday.

The coming days look like continuing the theme, but a break in that looks likely from mid-week with a return to wet and windy on the cards.

Derbyshire Dales District Council is managing a scheme to make homes cheaper to heat.

Old and uneconomical boilers could be replaced for free as the District Council encourages local residents to improve energy efficiency.  But the deadline for applications is the end of March.

Around £2.5m funding is being shared between 14 district and borough councils across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire after the District Council was successful in a national competition run by the Department of Energy and Climate Change. In order to make homes warmer and more energy efficient, householders can apply to the scheme for the replacement of old and inefficient boilers, replacement boilers where it is not economical to repair, boiler repairs and installation of new heating systems.

To qualify for the free work, Dales residents must be owner-occupiers with savings of less than £16,000, and be in receipt of certain benefits such as Pension Credit, Income Support, Child Tax Credit or housing/council tax benefits.Anyone not receiving benefit but having a total household income of £18,000 or less, could also be eligible for support from the scheme.

The scheme is being handled by the established Warmstreets team, who have been working with Derbyshire Dales District Council over the past two years to provide loft and cavity insulation.

To enquire, call the Warmstreets team on 0800 043 9569.

Parwich Lunch - March

Watch out for Halso’s T&Cs,

We have received this message from Rick G:

We had some oil delivered from Halso on 28th Jan at an agreed price of 62.4p per litre. Imagine our surprise when the invoice that followed stated that this price was only for payment in advance of delivery, and that payments afterwards would be at a rate of 70.4p. Needless to say, we’ve paid the agreed lower rate only. Watch this space.

Derby Station Parking

Thank you to Mike R for this information:

Car Parking Derby Station – Be warned

I had a bad experience when I left my car at the Point Parking Site – RingGo 2860 last Wednesday when I was charged at the rate of £1.54p per hour for 15 hours car parking while I was in London for the day – total cost £23.10p Normally I expect to pay about £4.50p for 1 day parking. Next day I complained to the owners who have now refunded me all but 60p. If you are in London for the day, do not pay at the hourly rate, book 1 day instead. Their website advertises short stay car parking at £1.50p per hour and all day parking at £4.50p. I noticed the car park was almost empty – it is normally full – not surprising!

Solar Panels in the Park

Design_and_Siting_of_Solar_Panels_leaflet_WEB

The Peak Park Authority, in consultation with the other National Parks, has issued a pamphlet on the design and siting of solar panels for the National Park (click on the image to the right to see the leaflet on line).

For an overview of alternative energy sources click here for Jane B’s excellent review.

Do note that for most domestic buildings solar panels are permitted development and do not need planning consent. However for listed buildings planning will be required, so this leaflet should be very helpful.

Recent fuel thefts in our area

Police are appealing for information after two local fuel thefts:

Between 2pm on Saturday 23rd February and 4.50am on Monday 25th February, diesel has been stolen from a lorry in the compound of business premises in Longcliffe, Brassington. Crime number: 7955/13.

Some time between Friday 15th February and Monday 25th February, offender(s) climbed over a 5ft wall to access the grounds to a nursery in Tissington, removed the cap from the central heating oil tank, then siphoned a large quantity of oil. Crime number: 7911/13.

Did you see anything suspicious around the time of these offences?

Please be extra vigilant. Contact Derbyshire Police on 101 if you have any information.

Lent Lunches 2013

20130226-120602.jpg

Derbyshire County Council (DCC) is proposing to introduce ‘part night street lighting’ in Parwich. This process has already taken place in other parishes throughout Derbyshire. DCC has identified street lights which are proposed to be turned off for part of each night in Parwich.

There will be a consultation period which commences on 5th March and lasts until 2nd April. Parwich residents are invited to submit comments directly to DCC regarding this initiative during this period.

A copy of the plan illustrating the lights which are proposed to be turned off will be available for inspection at Parwich village shop.

Members of the parish council will discuss this proposal at the next parish council meeting on 20th March 2013.

Paul B’s Weedkiller Weekly #19

Hello Possums

19yawnFirstly I must deal with an unpleasant occurrence, a complaint from Mr Bill W. Bill told me that his beauty sleep is being disturbed because his wife Anne is reading the ‘Weedkiller’ on her kindle in bed, and chuckling well into the wee hours. He also told me that in the past by the time Ann had finished her whelks and jellied eels and drank her cocoa he would normally have been fast asleep. Our apologies Bill.

Our Weatherman in the Village says:

Tuesday turned out to be the best day of the week with a real promise of spring in the air. We then reverted to winter, albeit dry and cold rather than the more normal damp conditions.

The dry cold spell looks like continuing for the week to come so the forecast is cold grey and dry for the next few days at least.
