I’ve just realised that it is a Bank Holiday week, so it’s all change for the dustbins.  I have amended What’s on Where this Week, so apologies if I have confused anyone.

This week it is Friday 31st for the Green Bin and Saturday 1st for the Black Bin. The collection may be anytime between 7am-4pm, but remember the Green Bin men were very, very late last time, so don’t despair as they did eventually arrive.

September’s Film Night

Friday 14th September – 7.45pm – Memorial Hall

The film that everyone has been waiting for! A group of British retirees decide to “outsource” their retirement to Best less expensive and seemingly Exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

Starring  Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Ronald Pickup, Dev Patel & Celia Imrie

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Better not say it too loudly, but we won our two matches last week and we have done the same again this week and one of the teams we beat are top of the league! Oh, and Edith Rider is playing out of her socks.

Matlock Tuesday League – Home – 21 August – Chatsworth.
Edith Rider and Rick Manning are on a bit of a roll. They won last week 21/8 and did the same this week. We won three out of the four games and although we did not do well in the fourth, because of Rick and Edith’s great win the win was complete . When we played Chatsworth on their green we won 71-49. On our green this week we won 71-53. How about that for consistency. Chatsworth are a little below us in the league and this good win will obviously keep them there. Penultimate game of the season next week, hopefully we will stay where we are in the league, mid table.
Next match – Away – Bradwell – 28 August 6.00pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League – Home – Matlock Park – 16 August.
Matlock are top of the division by a country mile, but they don’t have an Edith. Having lost two of the doubles 21-4 and 21-3, and losing 18-3 in the third we were lucky to get to double figures let alone win a game. Oh ye of little faith! It was Edith more than ably assisted by Ian Johnston, who not only got double figures, but got up to win the game 21-18. What a fight back. It still meant that we were down in the doubles 60-28.
In the singles games Edith was in crushing form again and Dot Hart won 15-0. You can’t do better than that. Could we actually begin to believe we could win the match? Could we win it, course we could. We won five out of the six games, and in the one we lost we were only 13-15 down. This gave us 88 points to 48, turning round the deficit from the doubles to give us a 116 to 108 win. What a match! Next week we play Bakewell. Can we win again? We still have our Edith.
Next match – Away- Bakewell- 30 August – 1.45pm.

Driveway Alarms – discount price

Residents and business owners in the Derbyshire Dales are being offered discounted driveway alarms to help deter thieves.

The wireless alarms are being made available at police stations in the district. They usually cost between £30 and £35 but are being sold at £20 to dales residents thanks to a subsidy from the Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership.

The alarms are being promoted by the Safety Partnership – which is led by Derbyshire Dales District Council and the police.

Dales businessman Iain Wakefield, of Alkmonton, said: “As our vehicles are parked out in the open at the end of a long drive, John Bointon from the Safer Neighbourhood policing team suggested we install one of these battery-operated infrared driveway alarms to monitor any unauthorised access onto our property.

“When triggered, the monitor wirelessly activates a portable alarm that can be carried anywhere in the house up to a maximum of 90 metres away. No wiring was necessary and all the outdoor parts are fully waterproof.” Continue Reading »

Thank you to JF-S for these photos.

Patti B writes:

Fame at last. Your obsessed dressage correspondent has finally made it and has reached the dizzying heights of a photo on page 33 of Hello! Magazine. A smallish picture, on the bottom left of the page.

Actually – don’t let’s get carried away – it’s my medal cake that’s in the magazine. (That must have been the guy so rudely elbowing me out of the way to take a photo – only my good manners prevented me from giving him an equally rude mouthful – good job I didn’t!)

Still, it was a lovely surprise and I shall be giving away autographs at some future obscure event for an indescribably huge fee! I can also be seen helping to serve lunch in Parwich Memorial Hall every other Monday, so come along and join the fun – great food for just £5.

Double Victory This Week

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

Having had the euphoria and excitement of the Parwich Olympiad it is back to the grind of weekly league matches. Cant’ believe we have only a few left before the end of another season.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 14 August – Ashwood Park, Buxton.

Ashwood are a few points ahead of us in the league and we don’t usually do well on their green. We had a good win against them on our green in May, but their green can be very tricky, and so it proved to be. We had two good wins and two not so good losses. Rick Manning and Edith Rider played brilliantly in their game and won 21- 8. This gave us a really good base, and even though we lost two games they were by not so great a margin as Ashwoods losses. The final outcome was 68 to Parwich, 65 to Ashwood Park. The 3 points we beat them by are not sufficient to lift us above them in the league, but hopefully we won’t drop any lower either.

Next match – Home – Chatsworth – 21 August 6.15pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Away – Lafarge, Hope – 16 August.

Again in this league we are a few points behind Lafarge and in the game on our green earlier in the season we had a draw against them. In the doubles games we won two out of the three with Audrey and Harry Bunting winning really well by 21 points to 12. The score after the doubles was 52 Parwich, 43 Lafarge. Audrey also played in the singles games, because we were so short of players and had a great win 15-12. With the good start we had in the doubles and sharing the singles three all, the final score was 121 to Parwich, 119 to Lafarge. Again not quite enough points to take us above them in the league.

Next match – Home Matlock Park – 23 August – 1.45pm.

Parwich Parish Council – Sub Committee

Parwich Parish Council
Planning Sub Committee Meeting
at 1 Croft Ave on Sunday 19th August – 5pm

Peak Park have asked Parwich Parish Council to re-examine planning application number: NP/DDD/0312/0264 & NP/DDD/0312/0266 (Installation of air-to-air units at ten flats on Smithy Close and four flats on Rathborne Croft) in the light of new advice from Environmental Health.  As this application requires a response from the Council before the next scheduled meeting in September a subcommittee meeting has been arranged. This meeting is open to the public.  If you wish to attend please leave a message on 665.  Depending on numbers there may be occasions when the subcommittee will have to relocate and hire the Memorial Hall.

Tissington and Carsington area residents asked to set local policing priorities

As you may be aware, each of our Safer Neighbourhood policing teams hold a meeting every three months to set priorities, offering residents the chance to select what their local police officers and other agencies target.

The aim of our e-forum is to make it easier for you to have a say on priorities.  Simply reply by clicking here to this email and tell us what you would like your team to target.

Your concerns will be sent to the Tissington and Carsington area Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team and they will discuss all responses at their next forum meeting which will be held on:

Wednesday 29th August starting at 7.30pm at Bradbourne Village Hall.

Each team works in partnership with local agencies, which include parish, town, district and county councils, housing associations, Derbyshire Youth Service, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Neighbourhood Watch among others, to help keep your area a safe, clean and pleasant place to live.

Priorities can include a wide variety of issues, including anti-social or nuisance behaviour, graffiti or vandalism, speeding, parking or anything which you feel impacts on the quality of life for you and your neighbours.

You are still more than welcome to attend the meeting if you would prefer to speak to officers in person or you can also call our non emergency telephone number, 101.

You can be reassured that we will listen to your concerns, act on them and maintain our commitment to provide a high quality policing service to everyone in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.

The public consultation on the draft five-year management plan for the trails is now open.

The Peak District National Park Authority owns and manages four multi-user recreational trails within the Peak District. These are:
•Tissington Trail
•High Peak Trail
•Monsal Trail
•Thornhill Trail

All four trails are popular with a wide variety of users, including walkers, cyclists and horse riders. As the trails are old railway lines, they offer easy-to-access routes within areas of beautiful landscape that are rich in wildlife and historic interest.

The Authority has prepared a draft management plan for the four trails to guide their management over the next five years. Recognising the importance of the trails to both locals and visitors from further afield, we would now like to give the public the opportunity to comment on the plan.

How to comment

1. Download a copy of the draft management plan

2. Email your comments to Abi Ball at: abi.ball@peakdistrict.gov.uk

3. The consultation period will run for six weeks until midnight on Monday 17 September 2012.

Warm up to energy bill savings – before it’s too late

Time is running out for Derbyshire Dales residents to take advantage of lofty savings on their energy bills.

In the past year Derbyshire Dales District Council has helped local people save over £43,000 in energy bills and is urging local householders and private tenants to sign up to a scheme for free and discounted loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.

Last autumn 326 Dales households prepared for winter and beat rising energy prices by applying for subsidised loft and cavity wall insulation, resulting in an annual CO2 saving of 220 Tonnes.

Chairman of Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Steve Bull, said: “The recent weather, which has felt more like October than July, should prompt local people to prepare for winter now to save cash when you really need the energy.

“Funding for the free and discounted scheme the District Council runs in partnership with Warmstreets ends in December 2012, so our advice is call us now.”

Call 0800 043 9569, or if calling from a mobile 0333 557 9569. Alternatively, visit warmstreets for more details. Warmstreets provides deals in renewable technologies, external wall insulation, replacement heating systems and other home improvements.

This year there is a rather special judge for the Photograph competition: an ex-Kodak specialist. He has had a great deal of experience in judging at various shows and competitions. He will not just be awarding points for technical merit but will be looking for originality and interest. If you enjoy using a camera please have a go at the classes in this year’s show on Sunday 2nd September.
