Fireworks Galore

It was a super Bonfire Night last night, and the fireworks went on for ages – a fabulous event. Thank you to the Carnival & Rec committee for organising it, to C4P for the food and anyone else that helped.

Have you seen this guy?

This guy looked as bit lost as he was seen staggering down Creamery Lane about 30 minutes ago.

If you see him,  do help him, as he’s going to be the star tonight.  Give your vote and support  to “Guy in Lights”, better than X Factor & Strictly, from 7.30pm, Live on Alsop Road. It’s Bonfire Night!

Well done Wyatt & the Marshalls.

Drawing underwater: Part One

No sooner am I back in Dorset than I’m jumping in the sea with D. Studland, with borrowed kit (thanks Matt), a BCD from the dive centre, and away we go. The beach is packed! I’ve never seen it like this before. The number of boats moored have increased, too. We make our way to the water and don fins. It’s good to be back!

CHAIRMANS REPORT 2011
The last year has been yet another good one for the Horticultural Society. It has been difficult deciding in what direction to steer the Society but I feel we have weathered the last 2 years and are being as well supported by our members as we were in the past.

Entries were higher this year in the childrens show and there were some fabulous animals produced from fruit and vegetables. The main show was as unpredictable as ever and entries were affected by a wet summer and by many of us being at the Strong Man event the day before. However the auction was as popular as ever as the crowd were encouraged by the auctioneer, Mr Robert Bunting, to part with vast sums of money for superb produce.

Open Gardens was another great success and as usual the village rallied round to help us with the organisation. As a Thank-You to our Garden Openers we held a buffet reception on the Sunday evening and it was lovely to see everyone there. Continue Reading »

Parish Council Minutes – 13.9.11

Forthcoming events at The Legion

In August I wrote a detailed article about sustainability, giving all the renewable energy options available to us. Yesterday the government announced major new proposals to the Feed in Tariffs that will affect the cost effectiveness of PV panel.

Under the proposals, the new tariffs would apply to all new eligible solar PV installations installed on or after 12 December 2011. These installations would receive the current tariff of 43.3p before moving to the lower tariffs, 21p, on 1 April 2012.

Consumers who already receive a FIT will see their existing payments unchanged, and those with an eligibility date on or before 11 December 2011 will receive the current rate.

The table below compares typical income and savings made for an average sized solar PV system in the UK based on the Energy Saving Trust’s website.

FIT Rates Total annual earnings and savings with a 2.9kW system
Simple payback (years)
Current – higher tariff 43.3p/kWh £1,190 11
Proposed – lower tariff 21p/kWh £640 20

Please note that these proposals are currently under consultation and are therefore not final. However, the Energy Savings Trust recommend customers should use the figures in the consultation if they are planning to install after 12 December 2011.

Trick or Treat

Love it or hate it, Parwich does “Trick or Treat” well, it is good-natured and friendly. Tonight there was a real buzz in the air, you could hear children’s voices full of excitement and their footsteps echoing up the path. Lots of effort had been put into the costumes and the enthusiasm of the children was matched by their readiness to say thank you.

Boots is home.

Marion & John F-S are extremely relieved that “Boots” has returned. Whilst they were away at the weekend  Boots, their cat went missing.

Janet B had been hunting high and low and so had lots of other kind people, so the F-S’s would like to let them know that all is well, and to say a big thank you for their help and concern.

Let there be Light

Let There Be Light, a children’s event celebrating God’s creation, organised by Revd Andy Larkin, took place today in the Memorial Hall.  Thirty eight children attended and enjoyed activities including a shadow theatre, an ultra-violet light filled maze, decorating gingerbread people, producing a full size decorated image of themselves and a huge joint piece of art celebrating the creation story from the Bible.

The parents enjoyed the excellent cafe provided by Catering 4 Parwich. The only problem was how to get the huge painting into the church, when it was finished! As the children left, they were each given a light stick. To see all the photo’s check out the Peak Five facebook page. A video will be posted soon.

“Thank you all who worked so hard with the planning, organisation and delivery. Especially the parents who unexpectedly found themselves being helpers to cope with the number of children (you know who you are!). Thanks also to all of you who came and supported the event and helped to make it such a great morning. Revd Andy Larkin.”

It’s The Monster Mosh

It is with some relief to us all that The A52s are now unable to play at The Legion this evening – Saturday 29th October at 8.30pm. Apparently they are all too scared of Hallowe’en.

However we have some good news! In their place, The Legion have secured at last minute the services of Dexy’s Chainsaw Massacre – another local band sounding remarkably like The A52s. They are much more scary than our familiar bunch of lads but still drink as much beer.

The band hope to see you there this Saturday evening. Be there and be scared!

Zumba Classes start on Wednesday

Clocks change tonight

Tonight at 2am the clocks will change, so remember to move your alarm clock back one hour.  The advantage is that you can have  an extra hour in bed but the downside is that the sun will set before five and it will be dark by 5.30pm.

Community Messaging Service

The Community Messaging Service is a system designed to circulate information rapidly, to keep members of the community informed of crimes in their area and current events, as well as appeals for witnesses to crime.

You can also sign up for messages about emergencies in your area for free.

Find out about – bogus callers, burglaries, theft, appeals, community meetings, crime prevention etc.

Messages are sent by e-mail, voice mail, fax or text message and people can also choose when they receive information.

Information can be specifically targeted at individual schemes or neighbourhoods.

There are already more than 18,500 members of the public and other partner agencies registered on the system. If you would like more information or would like to register with this service, please contact your Divisional Community Information Officer on 101.

Parwich.org regularly received these messages and posts ones that are relevant to our area.

New First Responders For Parwich

We have received the following message from Sue H:

Parwich First Responders are delighted to announce that the village now has three new responders!

Debbie W, Caroline H and Heather H recently completed their training in Nottingham. It’s great news and helps no end in our ability to provide emergency cover for Parwich. Well done and thank you to all three.

We also have a new rota coordinator: Sam H will be doing our rota every Sunday as part of his volunteering for Gold Duke of Edinburgh.

Free Planning Roadshow

The proposed changes to the Planning system with particular reference to how communities can shape the future of the areas in which they live and work through engaging in the Planning System in Derbyshire, is to be addressed by a series of Roadshows across the County, with three further training events in December 2011 and January/February 2012, led by the Derbyshire County Training Partnership.

The training events will be free of charge and have been arranged in consultation with the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) and form part of the National Programme of training made possible by Government Grant.

New Councillor Needed

Your Parish Council Needs You!

Are you interested in serving your local community? If so, there is now a perfect opportunity for you to join the Parish Council. As a result of the last uncontested election, there are currently six parish councillors and the Parish Council now needs to co-opt one more person to fill the remaining vacant post to bring the council up to its maximum of seven councillors.

The Parish Council meets monthly, except in August & December (although there is a meeting this December). Discussions are lively and varied, as the Parish Council has a very wide and growing range of responsibilities and interests. This includes the management of the parish land – greens and ponds, the provision of play and recreation facilities, toilets etc. It also is involved in supporting local initiatives through participation and on occasion providing grants. Another important aspect of Parish Council work is engaging in consultation on all local planning matters.

If you are interested, then the Parish Council really wants to hear from you. Please apply in writing, explaining briefly why you would want to join the Parish Council team.

Applications by email/post by Monday 31st October to
Caroline Healy

There are very few rules about becoming a councillor, but click on the “Am I qualified” icon below to check that you meet the legal requirements, this information is taken from NALC, the National Association of Local Councils.

………..     ……………………………………  ……………  ……………….  ……………………  …  … In April Waitrose at Buxton included Parwich First Responders in their green token Community Charity Scheme. We would like to extend our thanks to Waitrose and to all the shoppers that chose to support us. We have received a generous donation for £295 to support our continued work in the community. Thank you.

Close ups of the Wall Hanging

Thank you to JF-S for these close up photos showing some of the detail in the wall hanging. Continue Reading »

Today Derbyshire police launched a new telephone number which will make it easier for people to get in touch with the force about issues that do not need an emergency response. So ring 101 instead of 0345 123 33 33, the old non-emergency number.

It is part of a national drive to make it easier for people to contact police to report crime and disorder, with all forces using the number by the end of this year.

While 999 is a well recognised number to report emergencies, that is when a crime is happening, when someone suspected of a crime is nearby or where someone is injured, being threatened or in danger.
most people couldn’t remember the non emergency number.

By calling 101, you will be able to speak to the police force control room of your local police service. Calls from landlines and mobile networks cost 15 pence per call, no matter what time of day you call or how long you are on the phone.

You should use 101 to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response. For example:
– if your car has been stolen;
– if your property has been damaged;
– where you suspect drug use or dealing;
– if you want to report a minor traffic collision;
– if you want to give the police information about crime in your area;
– if you want to speak to your local officers; or
– general enquiries.

Deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired callers can access the service via textphone on 18001 101.

It is hoped that 101 will reduce the number of inappropriate 999 calls, allowing the force to respond to emergencies more effectively. Between April 1 and September 30, Derbyshire police answered 462,423 calls. Of these, 70,520 were emergency calls and 391,903 were non-emergency calls.
