Village Collage/Embroidery Tonight

Following on from the recent most enjoyable skills day in Church, the idea has been put forward to create a worked collage/ embroidery of the village to celebrate village life, and to mark the beginning of a new decade. It is hoped that this could then be hung in the Church

We would now like to see if there are others in the village who would like to join with us in this activity – either with the sewing (any form – embroidery, gold work etc.) or with suggestions for designs to be included in the project. We would hope to have as many people as possible involved in the project – I have been reassured that no knowledge is required and any necessary skills can be taught!

Do come and join us at Jill Simpson’s house tonight, Tuesday, 6th July at 7.30pm to take this forward. You can contact any one of us to discuss this further, or just let us know on 529 if you are interested. You can also discuss it with Jill Simpson, Ann Knight, or Mandy Noble.

Many thanks Jean

For those of you thinking things had gone quiet on the local superhero front, here’s a shot from our roving reporter in Alaska.

Following several weeks of practice this winter on Parwich Pond, our turbo-talented trucker Roberto Buntingo decided to help out the hapless lorry drivers who get themselves into trouble on the frozen lakes above the Arctic Circle.

Roberto hates to see late deliveries and normally finds a way to make it through. The people of Anchorage will receive their consignment of speedos after all!

Tom’s Loose Women

No, it’s not what you are thinking, but you could almost imagine the headline – how easily things can be misinterpreted.

We have however, been reliably informed that Tom Chambers is appearing tomorrow on the very popular ITV show, Loose Women, sometime between 12.30-1.30pm.  He’ll be casting his eye over the hot topics of the day with Big Brother Winner Craig Phillips.  Tom is quite clearly popular with the ladies of this show, as he has made numerous appearances in the past.

July/August Church Magazine

The double summer issue Group Magazine for the parishes of Alsop, Fenny Bentley, Parwich, Thorpe and Tissington is now available in each of the Churches.  Alternatively you can have it delivered direct to your door, or click on the cover image below to access it on-line as a pdf.

In his letter the Vicar welcomed Aron Simpson to the parishes:

This month it is my pleasure to introduce you to Aron Simpson.  Many of you will have met Aron already.  Perhaps at one of our fund-raising events or at service.  Aron is training to become a Vicar and is currently a full-time student at St. John’s College Nottingham, which is a Church of England training college.  As part of his course Aron spends time on placement at a church and he has chosen to spend his placement with us.  This will be mainly part-time extending through to Christmas, though in September Aron will be full-time in our parishes.

Aron currently lives in Derby with his wife Bella and daughter Evelyn.  Before entering the ministry he worked for Pizza Express.

People of Parwich will have seen Aron at both our St George’s Day celebrations and on Wakes Saturday, when the above picture was taken.  The Team here at PARWICH.ORG would also like to extend a warm welcome to Aron and his family and hope he finds the placement very productive.

The copy date for the September issue is 25th August 2010.

Panoramic Five 2010

Organiser Graham Johnson has sent us the following:

Following the success and acclaim in local running circles of last year’s inaugural event, we are again organising the Parwich Panoramic Five running evening on Tuesday 3rd August 2010. The format will be exactly as last year with 3 junior races starting at 6:30pm and the senior 5.3 mile event taking place at 7:15pm. As those of you who helped out last year are aware, the course requires a large number of marshalls and first aid help.

We are hoping that the excellent team who did such a great job to make last year’s event such a great evening will again pitch in. If you helped out last year (either marshalling or first aid) and are not available on that evening, please can you let me know (Graham Johnson on 344).

Let’s hope for kinder weather this year and a big entry.

Below are the photos of the 2010 Strongest Man competition organised by event.  Also click here to see the results and here for a general slide show of the evening.

School newsletter 36

This week’s specially extended two-page newsletter – featuring metal detecting and actual rocket science! – can be enlarged in the usual way.

This week’s bowls results

Week commencing 28 June 2010.

Two wins last week, two losses this. Expectations certainly not rising!

Tuesday League – Away – Matlock Golf Club.

Having beaten the top of the league team last week, we came down to earth with a bang this week, losing to the team second bottom. This was our lowest score this season. In truth we did not deserve to lose so heavily.

As it was we only won one game out of four and lost 66 to 48. Some consolation that we managed to restrict the winners to a fairly low score.

Certainly after this we will be very fortunate to remain in our fifth from bottom position in the league.

Next match – Home – Chatsworth – 6 July – 6.30

Thursday League – Home – Chatsworth.

Chatsworth are a few places higher in the league than we are and today’s result unfortunately showed why.

Although we won the doubles games 3 to 2 their aggregate score was greater than ours. We shared the singles games 3 games all and our aggregate scores were equal.

The overall score finished up at 120 to 125.  120 is not a bad score considering we lost, so hopefully we will stay mid table.

Next match – Away – Bakewell – 8 July. 1.30 ish.

John B.

Wakes through the years

What an excellent idea and a great evening.

Denis L showed a cine film from the 1960s of Wakes and a slide show of Wakes photos taken over the last 100 years or so on the Parwich Film digital projector now installed in the new Hall.  I did not count the audience but there must have been over 50 or 60 people there, sharing memories.  The loudest responses were to some of the 60s and 70s fashions and Carnival costumes (Val K is very keen to ‘have a strong word’ with whoever handed over to Denis one particular photo).

The Carnival & Recreation Committee had laid on wine and cake, which was avidly consumed as people looked at more photographs that people had brought in and displayed on tables arround the hall. Continue Reading »

At 1.40pm on Wednesday 30th June, an elderly lady was shopping in the supermarket on King Edward Street, Ashbourne, (Sainsbury’s) when she was approached by an unknown male asking questions to distract her from her shopping trolley. When she returned to her trolley, she noticed her purse had been stolen out of her bag.

The male is described as white, aged between 20-30 years, approx 5’6″-5’7″ tall, possibly Polish due to accent.

Please ask your elderly friends and relatives to be extra vigilant whilst shopping and report anyone acting suspiciously to members of staff at the store. Secure all purses/wallets/handbags. Purse chains are available from the enquiry office at Ashbourne police station.

Anyone with information about this incident should call 0345 123 33 33, quoting crime number: 35085/10.

Thank you – Trisha Mellor, B Division Community Information Officer, Buxton Police Station

Lost Items

We have received the following message:

I would be grateful if you could put a message on the blog for me. I have managed to lose a pair of black ballet shoes and key by leaving them on top of the car and driving away from home without realising. This happened at 4.30pm this afternoon. When I returned about 6.30pm they were nowhere to be seen en route. I am hoping that some kind soul has spotted them and picked them up. Shoes needed for exam next week!

If you are that kind soul please let The Blog Team know at parwich@hotmail.co.uk and we’ll pass the message on.
