There is a burst water pipe up here opposite Hallgates at the top of the snicket that takes you down to the school. I’ve tried a few times unsuccessfully to report it to Severn Trent & just can’t get through !!!!!! There must be quite a deluge collecting at the bottom near Arnold & Sandras!!!! I’m hoping that someone will have managed to get through to Severn Trent but I’ll keep trying anyway. Karen R

PDHS – Visit to Thornbridge Hall Gardens.
We are planning to visit Thornbridge Hall Gardens on 28 July. Entry is free to RHS members ( on production of current membership card) or £7.00 to non RHS members, meet in the car park at Thornbridge Hall at 1.30pm. As the venue is quite close and coach travel is a little complicated we are lift-sharing.
Please let me know if you would like to join us and also whether you are prepared to drive and offer lifts to others (tel 561 or email glynisdrummond@gmail.com) I will then coordinate the lift share.

Update from Derbyshire Dales –
Bin collectionsFriday 25 June:
Our contractor Serco will have crews working tomorrow (Saturday 26 June) catching up with missed waste and recycling collections that have happened this week, for which we apologise. So please leave out any missed containers for collection.
While it’s unlikely crews will get to all missed collections tomorrow, the catch-up will continue into next week

A big thank you to all who bought or provided plants over the last couple of months. We made an incredible £325 for Parwich and District Horticultural Society. This will certainly more than cover the costs of the talk later on this year.
We hope to have more plants for sale on July 21st when a selection of gardens will open in the village for An Evening in the Garden. Donations of plants gratefully accepted, preferably labelled.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
Brent Crude falls back slightly to below $73 a barrel on news the Federal Reserve said it may lift rates as early as 2023, a year earlier than previously expected, sending the dollar higher. However, strong oil demand and lower U.S. Crude oil inventories are capping any downward trend.
Delivery times are 5 to 10 working days from Club order on Monday. Please note the delivery times are estimated and are subject to weather and supply conditions. If you are low or have run out then this group order will not be suitable.
Rate: £0.3995 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Work has begun to improve the drainage around the tennis courts so that they are not flooded by the spring in the field above in future years. The tennis courts will not be available while this work is carried out. Please be aware that the contractors will be using machinery and vehicles for this work so please do not approach them while they are working.

A “stonking” good win is about the only way to describe Tuesday night’s home bowls fixture against Youlgreave. Results on Tuesdays have been patchy, to say the least, but all came together on this occasion as Parwich stormed to an impressive 81-48 victory. A maximum 84 score from the four games was only narrowly missed on the final game though Dawn and Fran kept us excited with a fighting performance, the scores neck and neck swinging one way then the other, until well after 8 o’clock. The winning wood from Carol of Youlgreave brought rapturous applause from both teams.
On Thursday our form continued. We were back on the road at Matlock Golf Club, the only team that look reasonably capable of catching us as league leaders – therefore a must-win match for both sides. Well it was tight, but Parwich were able to travel home feeling pretty pleased with ourselves after battling to a 123 to 110 win. A bit early to taste the champagne from the Championship trophy just jet but we can start to dream if we keep it up. Stylish celebrations for at least some of us included fish and chips and a pint on the way home!
Next week sees the team travel to Bakewell on Tuesday and then play host to Matlock Bath on Thursday afternoon. Unequivocally more entertainment there than the Nation saw from Mr Southgate’s men last night…..

Plant sales outside Rookery House will end after the weekend.
There are still a few plants in need of a good home, including blue Cornflower, Ammi majus, chives, Spirea and Lysimachia ciliata(a dark leaved perennial with yellow flowers).

Three of the four sheep normally in Bell’s Yard are grazing on Parwich Hill this morning. Not sure if they are supposed to be there as the gate at the Hilltop end of the path is open. Looks like they may have busted through the old gate as a couple of the cross struts are broken.
Sorry I don’t know who’s sheep they are, apologies if all is in order.

Message from the Legion Committee:
Our decision to hold the reopening celebration on the 25th June was based on the hope that the Government Roadmap out of the COVID-19 restrictions, would be lifted on the 21st. We now know this will be delayed until 19th July.
Therefore with regret, the committee have made the decision that we cannot comfortably proceed with the celebration until restrictions are lifted and so this event will be rescheduled until then. A new date will be announced shortly.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – waste & recycling collectionsWe’re acutely conscious that bin collections in some parts of the Dales have not been happening to schedule in recent weeks – and we have demanded that our waste and recycling contractor, Serco, produces a workable catch-up plan no later than first thing tomorrow. There are some mitigating circumstances – a national shortage of HGV drivers is impacting not only on Serco locally but also on collection services provided by many other local authorities. However, we will not allow the current situation to continue and will take legal action if necessary to ensure your collections happen as contractually agreed by ourselves and Serco. It is likely that Serco’s catch-up plan will involve weekend working and we will post more information on all our communications channels as soon as we have clarity. We are obviously taking a lot of calls about missed waste collections right now, which we completely understand, but if you could please hold off until we have a catch-up plan to communicate, that would be much appreciated. Thank you – and our sincere apologies. |

..In other words, Tuesday’s match was officially to be played away against Hope Works, owing to their green not being available however the match was played in Parwich. Although deemed as underdogs here we got stuck in thinking we could pull it off. A rattling good encounter, though, saw us eventually beaten by the narrow margin of 73-65. I did note, incidentally, that although the official away side it was Parwich folk that made all the tea. Which brings me on to say that if anyone heard an ear-splitting crash on Tuesday around 7-30 it was only yours truly dropping a wood on the pyrex tea tray and showering the entire pavilion with tiny cubes of glass. Could have happened to anyone….
In the Thursday league we were back at Parson’s Croft where the situation had a rather different outcome; a rampant Parwich side further extending their lead at the top of the table with a 145-95 victory over Youlgreave. We must have played well as a unit as I understand Youlgreave to have some particularly experienced bowlers among their ranks, so it was certainly a result to celebrate. By a quirk of fate from the fixtures organisers the same opponents will be our visitors again this coming week when we entertain them in the Tuesday League. Vociferous support will always be appreciated. Mark J…
