Oil Price – Up a Little

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

As the freezing weather continues, please ensure A) you have checked your oil levels and that your gauge is working? B) that you order as early as possible allowing plenty of time for delivery. 26 tonne trucks full of fuel are not able to get down roads covered in ice and snow! Delivery times are subject to weather conditions and supply.

If you are low on oil and could run out in the next few weeks, this order is not suitable. As this is a group order and suppliers are busy we are not able to make special requests .

TIP : Please check the condition of your tank. Many suppliers require their drivers to inspect the tank for cracks and sags and may not deliver if they find problems. If in doubt ask your boiler engineer to inspect the tank as soon as you can.

Rate:  £0.4795 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

20 mph Limits Given the Thumbs Down

Given the recent correspondence between the Parish Council and DCC, it is interesting to see this statement issued by DCC today:

Derbyshire County Council puts the brakes on 20mph speed limits

Plans to trial 20mph zones in three places in Derbyshire will not now go ahead because they are not considered the most effective way to reduce road speed. In 2016 it was proposed to pilot 20mph speed limits – reduced from 30mph – in Brassington, Fritchley and Ilkeston.

These pilots would have followed on from a trial in Padfield, in the High Peak, where the 20mph zone was marked by road signs only. Data from the trial in Padfield, which ran from 2015 to 2018, showed that on average, motorists travelled only 1mph slower than before the signs were put up.

Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said:

“The point of reducing speed limits is to reduce road speeds so that we reduce casualties. Findings from the trial in Padfield show that average speeds only reduced by 1mph, and in fact the number of collisions increased.

“These results were broadly similar to other national trials, which is that just putting up 20mph signs do not make a significant difference to how fast people drive on the road.

“We have to use our limited resources where they are going to have the most effect, which means that we won’t now be introducing 20mph signed zones in the three areas, Brassington, Fritchley and Ilkeston.

“There’s also no evidence from the Padfield trial that lower speed limits encourage wider health benefits.”

Friday Football Cancelled this Week

Sadly the weather has beaten us….. I have had a look at the weather forecast for the rest of the week and taken the early decision to cancel this week’s Friday Football (1st February).  Sorry kids.

For the safety of the children (and the adult helpers) we will not play on an icy tennis courts, it’s just too dangerous.

Village Speed Limits

Further to the recent correspondence which the Parish Council has had with the Traffic and Road Safety Service of Derbyshire County Council you may wish to read their latest response. It’s not at all supportive of the wishes of the village as expressed by our Parish Council. It’s quite a long response when really they could have just said no we don’t want to spend any money on you (how much do a few signs with 20 painted on them cost?, or false road narrowing gates at the entrance to the village like Brassingon?)

Police Closed Road out of Parwich

Thank you Louise B for messaging us that the Police have closed the road out of the village from Nethergreen in the direction of Ballidon. It is thought this is due to a fallen power line. We will try and update as soon as possible, but please everyone add a comment if you have any thing new.

update 1.15pm Road is passable with care. See Fiona’s comment below.

Oil Price – Down a Little

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Crude continues to hover above $60 a barrel this week; however the pound has strengthened further against the dollar helping stabilise the cost of kerosene. If you are low on oil and could run out in the next few weeks, this order is not suitable. As this is a group order and suppliers are busy we are not able to make special requests so please order early and ensure you have enough oil.

TIP : Don’t be caught out in the cold – visually inspect the oil level in your tank, don’t rely on the gauge alone. With the cold weather much more oil is used so ensure you have allowed enough time for delivery.

Rate:  £0.4698 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Problems at Bradbourne

The Church Warden of Bradbourne rang me to alert Parwich that last night (Thursday) another attempted theft of lead and copper had been attempted from the Bradbourne Church Roof and that from two vehicles tools had been stolen . This is the second attempt in the last month but again tools were taken from buildings and vehicles and we must be aware.

Plants going free

I am running out of space to store plants in my drive so am throwing away a number of good sized containerised plants:

  • Carex pendula (weeping sedge) – a native grass, have about a dozen
  • Leycesteria formosa (pheasant berry) – shrub, have over two dozen, enough for a reasonable stretch of hedging
  • Alchemilla Mollis (Ladies Mantle) – herbaceous, have half a dozen two
  • Lysimachia vulgaris (yellow loosestrife) – herbaceous, have four or so

So if anyone wants any or all of them, call round and collect them or let me know by Sunday evening.

Peter T, tel. 287

Update: 26th Jan. Thank you to all who have collected plants. There are seven Leycesteria formosa (pheasant berry) left. They are at the entrance to Church Farm drive, help yourself if you would like any.
