A Home For Tom Tom?

Following the interest in the post seeking to home the rescue dog that was fostered in Tissington, we are exploring the occasional post on other pets needing a home. Many of you will know of the work that Parwich resident Margaret R does in support of Cheadle Animal Welfare Society. As the holiday season approaches they find it particularly difficult to re-home animals so here is one of the cats they currently are seeking a home for:

CAN WE FIND A HOME FOR TOM TOM?

image

Tom Tom is such a lovely cat. He was born in October 2009 and had a loving home until February 2016. Sadly his owner is no longer able to care for him so he needs to find a new home.

In October 2011 he had a problem with his right eye and ended up having to have it removed, but he doesn’t have any problems with that. Continue Reading »

Thank You!

THANK YOU.

Our first visit to Parwich. We came with Notts DA, and found you all welcoming and friendly. You put a lot of hard work into Wakes week, and we very much appreciate your efforts, even the weather didn’t dampen your enthusiasm.

So thank you very much. Hope to see you next year.

Happy 4th of July

To our American residents and readers, Happy Independence Day.

image

Local links to America date back to well before 1776, with Aslops, Brownsons and Hawleys emigrating to New England in the early 1600s, and, following the persecution of Quakers in Ashbourne, Henry Gibbons of Parwich emigrated in the 1680s to Pennsylvania (See History Society News letter #21).

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Although Crude oil has not moved far from $50 a barrel, the Pound has fallen sharply against the Dollar over the last week, leaving heating oil prices very volatile and many nervous suppliers worried about rates!

The rate and offer details for our clubs group orders for this weekend are as follows:

While your Cameras are out.

imageLots of people will have their cameras out during Wakes, so don’t forget that there is a Photography section in the Horticultural Show in early September. Here is a reminder:

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Oh dear we are still winning with a vengeance and in both the Leagues this week. As you dear reader, know it can sometimes be a little inclement on the Bowls green and our Tuesday match was inclement in the extreme.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away -28 June – 6.30pm – Bakewell.

You really do need to get down to Parsons Croft and see how good your tiny village bowls team is. They are awesome. Bakewell are third in the division by a long way and we are struggling just below half way, however even though it looked as though it was the potential start of the great flood and we would need to contact Noah the Team won.

We came off the green looking like drowned rats, but with big smiles on our faces. Rick and Edith stormed home 21 – 7. Dawn A and John B won 21 – 17 with Pat B and Dennis E also winning 21 – 19. Even though Clara E and Harry B lost they were playing their best pair and still got 12. The final score was Bakewell 64, Parwich 75.

Next week we play the top of the league. I think we will need more than Noah.

  • Next match – Home – Cote Heath – 5 July – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday League
Home – Whitworth Park – 30 June – 1.45pm.

It’s getting critical now that we are past half way in the season because we had another cracking win!

We only won one of the three doubles, but we were only 5 points down. With a good 21 – 14 win and with close losses to 15 -21 in the other two games, we were in touch.

You may well recall we do quite well in the singles and this week was no exception with Dawn A winning 15 – 1, Tony A 15 – 4 Harry B 15 – 6, Rick M 15 – 6 and Edith R 15 – 7. Although we lost one game it was only 14 – 15! Singles scores Parwich 89, Whitworth 39, giving an overall win 140 – 95. This will cement our second position in the league.

  • Next match – Away – Chatsworth. – 7 July – 1.45pm.

Have a good time at Wakes. The Bowls Club would love to take part in the Hill Race, but as you can see we have to uphold the Village on the bowls green on Tuesday!

John B.

The Much Valued Legion Sign

The Parwich Royal British Legion have had a replica sign made so that they can protect Paul Burlinson’s original inside. Click here to see their original Facebook post on this.

imageYou may have noticed that our Legion sign painted by Paul Burlinson has been missing since February, this was to protect the original from the elements whilst we made a replica to replace it to ensure we could protect such an amazing legacy which Paul left us. The original is now up in pride of place inside the legion, whilst the replica made by Cameron Jewitt and Joe Beech of Acres Signs and Graphics, is now placed outside to greet all our patrons.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us with this project and we hope you enjoy the sign as much as we do and also special thanks and remembrance for Paul who was a key member of the team here at Parwich Legion someone we all miss greatly. Here are some sign preparation photos.

It is particularly appropriate to be able to post this on the eve of the centenary commemorations of the Battlle of the Somme.

Broken Glass on Parwich Roads

This morning I have swept up great piles of glass in the road around the Green, and understand from a lady walking her children to school that there is more up Church Walk. it may be wise to advise Mums to brief kids on bikes and generally fooling around, to be careful.

It is very fine crushed glass which is probably from the rubbish collection yesterday.

I have notified the sanitation dept at Derbyshire Dales and they are contacting the contractor to check the Lorry for signs of leakage.
