We have received the following from Parwich Royal British Legion:
On Friday 8th of May, Parwich Royal British Legion will be remembering the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. We would like to invite members and non-members to come and join us at the Legion for fifteen minutes as we mark this occasion.
At 7.45 pm we will gather outside the club and play Sir Winston Churchill’s famous end of war speech over loud speakers. This will be followed by the Act of Homage, delivered by Fred Knight, and we will conclude by playing the National Anthem.
We look forward to seeing as many people there as possible to help us mark this occasion, afterwards everyone is more than welcome to join us for a drink.

Parwich Primary School are in the Ashbourne News Telegraph this week (click here to see the photograph on the paper’s website). They have raised £1,000 for the Isobella Peatfield Trust, which is
the total cost for the build and upkeep of a brand new playground to be built in a school, nursery or orphanage in one of the poorest areas of Sri Lanka for children affected by the 2004 Tsunami. The playground will be named after ‘Parwich Primary School’ and we are hoping, with Mrs. Peatfield’s help, to make lasting links with the school, nursery or orphanage where our playground will be built.

With beautiful weather, all ran very smoothly. Starting with breakfast at the Legion the Parade, led by Doveholes Brass Band and made up of Parwich and other Odd Fellows, Wirksworth Army Cadets, the Brownies and local people made its way first to Parwich Hall. Here Charlie Fern outlined the history od St. George from early legends via his becoming Patron Saint of England in 1350 and via the Battle of Agincourt and much more upto his role with the Armed Forces and the Boy Scouts.
The St. George’s Day Service was taken by the Rev Andy Larkin, with Colin Sims talking on the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC Day (the Gallipoli Landings), Rachel Robinson Reading the lesson and the Vicar preaching on the text of ‘The Good Shepherd’.
The Parade moved on round the village with some much appreciated hospitality stops, before finishing again at the Legion for the barbecue.

PTA Fundraiser – School Clothing Collection
Parwich Primary School
Tuesday 28th April 2015
Devizes Textiles www.ragtexschools.com will be collecting any unwanted old clothes, paired shoes, handbags and books.
Items can be collected in any bag. A label for the bags has been sent home with your child during this week.
Donating you unwanted items will help raise funds for the school.
Please bring bags to school by 9am on Tuesday morning and leave at the front entrance.

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
A bit of a curates egg so far this season. We are winning and losing. Hopefully we won’t lose all our matches in the same League.
Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Matlock Park- 21 April.
We usually have a close match against Matlock Park and this week to some degree was no exception. We did win two games each, unfortunately their wins were by a greater margin than ours. Harry B and Valerie K set us off with a good win 21 – 18. Edith R and Tony A bettered that result winning 21 – 12. Our other two pairs tried valiantly, but just failed. The final score was Matlock 72, Parwich 61. We have a really hard match next week on a very big green. Keep your fingers crossed.
- Next match- Away- Wirksworth – 28 April- 6.30pm
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Bradwell A – 23 April- 1.45pm.
We were back on our own green this week thank goodness and in very good nick it is too. Our doubles pairs did us proud this week winning two of the three games. Pat B and Audrey B winning really well 21 – 8. Having been down by 14 – 1 at one point Dennis E and John H fought back to lose by only 21 – 16. Some recovery! Dawn A and Clara E won the final game 21 – 18. The final score therefore after the doubles games being 58 – 47.
Very tight singles games this week. Thankfully we managed to win four out of the six games. The best win we had was our Edith who managed 15 – 10, followed closely by Tony A and Harry B 15 – 11. The final score was Parwich 77, Bradwell 76.
Mathematicians amongst you will therefore have work out a win for us 135 – 123. So far too wins and a drubbing in this League. Not sure how we will cope next week against Hazelwood very big club, very good team.
- Next match – Away – Hazelwood – 30 April – 1.45pm.
You missed a really excellent get together last Sunday. 8 People turned up for a pleasant few ends. The cake and the tea weren’t bad either. You never know we may get a couple of new members yet. Thanks for coming, see you again, and anybody else who wants a bash, in a couple of weeks.

We have received the following from Nia L regarding reviving the Parwich Tennis Club –
I am trying to get the tennis club going again as we have had a couple of years off.
We have repaired the broken boards and will be putting new nets up and a box with racquets and balls available for anyone to use. Hopefully they will be used and replaced after use allowing others to have the enjoyment of them as well.On Saturday 2nd May we are running a version of the Presidents and Chairman’s tournament and would like to invite anyone who is interested in playing tennis on a social basis to join us for the afternoon. I have attached a poster and I will be putting some up around the village as well.Would it be possible to ask that the courts are no longer used for bikes and scooters and the making of ramps and dens as the surface is becoming damaged and the 2 nets that were originally on the courts are now unusable having been used in the construction of the ramps.We really would love anyone who would like to play some tennis, at whatever standard, to join us on the 2nd May but this is aimed at the over 12s. If there is sufficient interest then we will look at restarting some coaching sessions for youngsters.ThanksNia
