Dog Fouling in Creamery Lane

Most dog owners are very responsible, but unfortunately those few that are not may give rise to considerable irritation:

This MUST stop!

Who on earth allows their dog(s) to roam and/or foul repeatedly and habitually on our shared drive off Creamery Lane? Almost always in the same spot, but sometimes also in our gardens.

It has gone on for months and months, and then stopped for a few weeks, only to start again a couple of weeks ago. A little earlier yesterday I found 5 piles, yes FIVE, one of which looked more like a pile of ‘sick’ with –what looked like- (dried) peas mixed in. The piles must have been deposited in a period of no more than 24 hours. It’s disgusting and it MUST stop. Why should I be clearing up after other people’s dogs? Dog owners: take FULL responsibility for your pooches!

Do you know whose dog(s) could be responsible, then let the PPC know and they will follow it up, possibly via the local police lady who has offered to help with this persistent and widespread problem.

This time it’s my exasperated words, next time I’ll post some pictures of steaming piles ….

Saskia T

On a personal note, I can sympathise: being opposite Saskia and having had to clear dog mess (medium to large sized dog, fed on dried food) most mornings for about a week before Christmas; from my lawn, gravel drive and even from some plants in pots.

Swimming Pool Opening Next Week

Ashbourne Leisure Centre pool to reopen 12 January

The swimming pool at Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Ashbourne Leisure Centre is set to reopen on Monday 12 January – giving users a first view of an externally funded £175,000 open plan “changing village”. And as a thank you to the local community for their patience over the past five months, the District Council will be charging just one pound for anyone to use the pool at public swimming sessions throughout the first week. Delayed Bin Collections

Thank you Steve J for pointing out this link to the Derbyshire Dales District Council website (click here) updating on the plans to catch up on the double recycling bin collections delayed by last week’s snow.

For Parwich it says the delayed collections will take place next week. (Note, I was pleasantly surprised today to find my garden waste/green bin in Creamery Lane had been emptied.) Are there many bins still left to be emptied? Presumably the advice is to still leave any bins from missed collections by the roadside.

Tom back on TV

Tom Chambers is back on BBC1 in the new series of ‘Father Brown’, week days at 2.15pm. It starts today, so if you miss it you can catch up on BBC iPlayer (click here for more details). Series 3 runs for fifteen episodes, and Stuart says episode fourteen is a big one for Tom.

Stuart also says:

He has just finished White Christmas at the Dominion Theatre and is now becoming a judge on the ‘Strictly’ Tour with Craig and his professional dancing partner Camilla Dallerup.

Dance Classes on hold

Bad news unfortunately on both the upcoming Dance classes:

Dear all

Sadly I have just been informed that the dance classes we had previously advertised will not be going ahead as planned due to unforeseen circumstances.

I have contacted Community Sports to ask if there can be a replacement but probably won’t hear anything back until late next week.

I’ll keep you informed.

Thanks Katy

The weekend of 24/25th January sees the RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch; those wishing to take part can find out more and register by clicking here.

The RSPB say:

Bird populations are a great indicator of the health of the countryside. That’s why it’s so important to take part in surveys like Big Garden Birdwatch to keep an eye on the ups and downs of the wildlife where we live.
All you need to do is spend an hour over the weekend of 24-25 January counting the birds in your garden. It’s that simple!

However, we wondered if there was any interest in doing a Big Ballidon/Alsop/Parwich/Pikehall Bird Watch the same weekend? Let us know your thoughts by commenting on this post or emailing parwich@hotmail.co.uk .

There are a number of possibilities, including:

  • Those wanting to participate in the RSPB count could simply send us the same data with any photos they might take.
  • Alternatively the more energetic could set off to see how many species they could count anywhere in our area.
  • Visitor found ….

    Pump Hill Poll Update

Responses are still coming in, but as of midnight the 29th of December some 78% of respondents supported the need for a public meeting to discuss options for the future of the Parish Council owned land off Pump Hill, making up part of The Square. You can still add your response:

    DDDC Snow Updaate

Snow update – Derbyshire Dales District Council

Continuing poor weather conditions mean that Derbyshire Dales District Council’s scheduled stall market today (Monday) in Bakewell is cancelled. However, the usual Monday livestock market at the District Council’s Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell goes ahead as planned.

The District Council’s four leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth beat the weather conditions by opening as scheduled across the weekend, but the Boxing Day snowfall forced the suspension of Saturday’s scheduled waste and recycling collections in and around Ashbourne, Darley Dale and Baslow.

Bin teams were out first thing today (Monday) playing catch-up in those areas – though some side roads and streets may still be inaccessible.

The big message to Derbyshire Dales residents for this week is please leave out/put out your waste and recycling for collection – and the bin teams will get to you as soon possible. Residents should work to this week’s scheduled collection timetable, which can be found online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/waste via a postcode search.

Waste can be taken to household recycling centres at Ashbourne, Darley Dale and Waterswallows, Buxton.

    * Derbyshire County Council are responsible for gritting roads – and snow updates and gritting information can be found on the homepage of their website at http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk

Note: Our bins (blue and green bins and food caddies) are, weather permitting, due for emptying on Wednesday as normal.

    Fireguard wanted until Monday

SOS  Please could someone lend us a small fire guard from today (Saturday) until Monday lunchtime? Phone no 390 132.
    Many thanks,
    Sue C, Rosemary Cottage

UPDATE: Thanks for all the helpful offers to lend us a fire guard. Our son solved the problem with an imaginative use of a clothes airer! We will know where to call if the need arises in future.

    Is road to Ashbourne open?

Does anyone know whether the road from Ashbourne to Parwich is clear? Marlous and Ferdi, our (Dutch) guests from Tom’s Barn, have had to camp at the Travel Lodge in Ashbourne overnight and need advice. They certainly won’t get up the hill to Orchard Farm but will they get to Parwich okay? I don’t think they or their car are used to icy roads…be very grateful if anyone has any up to date info. Thank you!

    Land off Pump Hill

Parwich Parish Council have spent considerable effort exploring some possible uses of the land on the west side of Pump Hill that makes up part of the Square (click here to see extracts relevant Council minutes). However their proposed sale of this land has prompted local controversy (click here for some of the responses here at parwich.org).

The sale of this piece of community owned land would be an irreversible step. Should there be a public meeting and consultation prior to a decision being made on this issue or should the Parish Council be left to make the decision on our behalf?

    Treacherous Roads

Thanks to Helen P for letting us know ( at 18.45 )that the roads are treacherous outside the village. They have just arrived home from Froggatt but wouldn’t advise anyone to travel  heading north .
