We hit the magic 30 Celsius yesterday (31.1c recorded at 18:00)!! If you think I’m going to sit inside writing a rambling weather commentary on this beautiful morning – you’re mistaken. Forecast is hot and sunny for the foreseeable………

What a fantastic Wakes Week. A big thank you to the Carnival & Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, the Legion, the Sycamore and everyone who works so hard every year to make it such a success. (And the weather was OK too!)
With all the great photos and results that have been coming in, it can be hard to find all that has been posted at parwich.org, so here is a list of the 2013 posts (with links) in the order the events happened.
Also if you can fill any of the gaps in our reporting, please contact us via parwich@hotmail.co.uk.

After last week’s dismal results we managed to put a couple of good matches together this week.
Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – Bradwell – 2 July.
The weather was not good for tonight’s match. We were only playing bowls what must it have been like for the runners in the Wakes Week hill race? Thankfully suitably adorned in thermal wellies and Long John’s, it is only July after all, we battled on!
Although we shared the games two each our losses were not as great as our opposition. In one game Dawn and Clara only lost by one point and of course we do have our Edith ably assisted by Rick who won 21 – 7. The final score finished Parwich 75 Bradwell 63. This win will hopefully lift us up a place, possibly two in the League.
Next match – Away – Matlock Bath – 9 July 6.30pm.
Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Whitworth – 4 July.
It was a shame we only had a couple of people who came over to the Green on Wednesday night during the fun and games over on Parsons Croft. It is a pity that nobody seems to have any enthusiasm to join the Bowls Club. Anyway, we played again and did really well. In the doubles we only won one game, but still only finished one shot down over the three games. In the singles we came into our own winning four of the six games. Edith again had a stormer, winning 15 – 1. Felt quite sorry for her opponent. You should have tried harder Edith and won 15 – 0! Whitworth Park are a really nice bunch of people, but it was still good to beat them 134 – 109.
Next match – Away – Tideswell – 11 July – 1.45pm.
On Sunday we have a Club competition down at Parsons Croft at 2.00pm. Come down and have a look.
With several new events this year, let us hope tonight’s revival of the Wakes Dance is as successful as the Oddfellows Sports night on Wednesday and pictured below. There was also a BBQ by the Odd Fellows and a bar in the Pavilion by Janet and Steve from the Sycamore Inn. Thank you to David and Christine G for these excellent photos. Continue Reading »

An excellent evening, despite the unreliable weather, with an increased number of entrants in the Junior Race, and some excellent performances from local youngsters. There was a reduced number of runners in the main Senior Race, which was won by C Patterson in 18min 54sec, slower than his winning time last year (this was over a different course because of the very wet conditions), but faster by 5sec than the 2011 winning time over the same course.
The quickest home in the Junior Race was D Evans in 12min 32sec, faster than his winning time of 13min 12sec last year.
The Wakes Dance on Friday night is “Bring your own drink”, but this is not on the tickets or in the Wakes Programme. Don’t miss out on the Dance, tickets are still available at £5.00 each?

The annual Parwich Panoramic Five cross country fell race will take place on Tuesday 6th August at 7:30pm. This is the fifth year of the event, so we’ve a bit to do to clock up the history of our fantastic hill race successfully run again last night. The PP5 event was organized five years ago to help raise funds for the rebuilding of our beautiful Memorial Hall, and is a bit of a legacy of that. Any funds raised on the night either via the entry or raffle will be donated to the Memorial Hall in order to contribute to maintenance and upkeep. In association with the PP5, local Fell Race organizer David Denton puts on a series of popular children’s races starting at 6:30pm. Come along an enjoy an evening of running in Parwich. Starts and ends in front of the Sycamore Inn.
Yesterday (2nd July 2013) was our busiest day so far here at parwich.org with a total of 6,438 page views. Wakes is always one of our busiest times, and this year is no exception, perhaps helped by the wet weather yesterday evening encouraging people to stay in on their computers. Thank you everyone for your support, but make sure you get out there and enjoy yourselves too.

Following the Open Gardens our readers may be interested in this competition launched by Derbyshire Dales District Council. Here is the Council’s press release:
‘The Blooming Dales’ celebrates beautiful district
The beautiful gardens and community spaces of the Derbyshire Dales are to be celebrated in a new competition.
‘The Blooming Dales‘ is the idea of this year’s Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales Councillor Peter Slack.
A keen gardener himself, Councillor Slack, who is Chairman of Middleton in Bloom and helps to maintain the village’s Millennium Garden, wants local people to nominate their neighbours’ – or their own – well-kept residential gardens for recognition. Continue Reading »
