There is a position available for a reliable, honest and diligent person to do the holiday cottage changeover at a property on the margins of Parwich.

The regular changeover day is a Friday, however, if the cottage has accepted a weekend break, followed by a short mid-week break, there may be the additional work opportunity on a Monday.

If you would like more information on the role and duties, or to apply for the position, please contact Robert on:

Carsington Dam Road Closure

This may be useful info for locals who use the road along the Carsington dam:

The road along the section of the dam of Carsington reservoir is closed from Tuesday – Thursday, 16-18 May, i.e. between the entrance slip-road to the Visitor Centre and Millfields CP, due to a simulation emergency planning exercise. You can still use the footpath below the dam to walk round, but there is no vehicle access along that road section.

I believe that the official diversion for vehicles is through Wirksworth, but that smaller vehicles could use the much shorter route through Hognaston.

Wakes Carnival Floats

The Carnival Parade is the climax of Wakes Saturday. The more entries, particularly floats, that we can get to take part the more exciting it will be. The Carnival Committee realise that preparing a float can seem like a bit daunting and may not be for everyone. But we would like to encourage you to give it a go. Perhaps you have an idea, some enthusiasm or a suitable vehicle – but not all three?

If so maybe we can help.

If you:

  • have a suitable trailer
  • would be willing to tow a float
  • have an idea for a float
  • are just someone who would like to be involved but don’t know where to start….

…please get in touch with one of the Carnival Committee or email lucywigley@googlemail.com and we will see if we can do a bit of helpful matchmaking!

There is no need to tow a trailer if you don’t want to. Dressing up an individual vehicle, or taking part in one of the lovely classic cars in the village would all be appreciated.

All entries will be very welcome, from those planned weeks in advance to one started at dusk the previous day.

As an added incentive the year will see the inauguration of the Laycock Trophy for the winning entry.

So come and join us!

Parwich Playground repairs

Each year the playground equipment in Parwich is inspected. Generally the findings indicate low levels of risk but some minor repairs or maintenance are suggested.

The next inspection will take place shortly. The Parish Council is seeking a contractor who might be willing to undertake work of this sort. Would you like to be provided with details of any repairs or maintenance which need doing and considered for carrying out the work?

If so please contact the Clerk on clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk

And if you know of anyone else who might be interested please pass this on.

The next meeting of Parwich Parish Council will be held on Wednesday the 17th May 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Memorial Hall. The Parish Annual meeting will take place at 8:00 pm.

The agenda is here.

Thank you

Wild Orchid

Thank you to the eagle-eyed Martin C for sending through this picture of a wild orchid spotted on Parwich Hill.

There are a few locations within a walk of the village where these fairly rare wildflowers can be seen in spring and early summer, always worth keeping your eyes peeled for them.

On May the 17th the Parish Council will hold its Annual Meeting at 7:00pm and the Parish Annual Meeting at 8:00pm. Both in the Memorial Hall.

Residents are invited to attend either of these meetings if they wish.

The Annual Meeting is a formal meeting of the Parish Council held in accordance with the normal rules governing Parish Council meetings. A number of reviews take place which are required annually by the Council’s Standing Orders.

The Parish Annual Meeting is something which the Council is required to hold, but it is not governed by any set format or regulations. Open discussion, not normally possible in the regular Council meetings, is permitted. But the Council cannot take any decisions in this meeting – other than to place any matters arising on the agenda for the next formal meeting.

As in previous years the Council will take the opportunity to provide summaries of activities and finances during the past year.

Village organisations have been invited to come and talk about their own past and planned activities if they wish.

If there is anything you would like to see added to this meeting please contact the Clerk to the Council, Andrew Martin, on clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk

Agendas for both meetings will be published later in the week.

Privacy Policy

Two lambs have been killed with a third left seriously injured following an attack by a dog.

A walker has also been through a gate not on the public footpath and left it open, meaning the sheep have all been mixed up from their original groupings.

This has happened on the fields opposite the triangle at the bent (bottom of Highway Lane), the fields that the footpath to Ballidon cross and the fields behind them.

If anyone has seen anything at all then please contact Liz Edge on 07545 345 504.

Please also use this as a polite reminder that all dogs should be kept on leads as per the Highway Code – particularly at such a sensitive time of year when the sheep are in lamb.

Mobile Phone Found

A mobile phone in a black case has been found on the bench near Jubilee pond.

It is now at the pub.

Bowls Club Report

1 / 1

We Can’t Seem to Put a Foot Wrong….

Three weeks into the season and Parwich Crown Green Bowling Club remain unbeaten. In the Thursday League a fine 130 to 102 away win at Matlock Park last week and an equally impressive 136 to 103 victory over our friends and rivals from Wirksworth yesterday afternoon see us sitting pretty in 2nd spot in the table. It looks like we mean business this term in the quest to regain promotion to the First Division where we feel we belong.

Tuesday evening just gone we opened our account in the Tuesday League by beating Youlgrave at home 75-56 in a thrilling and most enjoyable encounter, that saw our visitors try and gain revenge for our Thursday win a couple of weeks ago, only for us to dig deep and come out on top in the end. What a nice bunch of people to play with though. I for one will look forward earnestly to our return match at their green and, as one of their number is a local pub landlord, a post-match pint perhaps in his hostelry, which I understand to be a fine place indeed.

One way or another May will be a busy month at your bowls club. In addition to the programme of league matches stretching out across the two competitions, we will be entertaining the travelling Newport Oddfellows next Saturday, in what promises to be a sociable occasion, and then on the 20th we have the Open Day. This is an event in which we do sincerely hope that you will support us, turn up and see what an absorbing game this can be. As I stated last week, if you don’t enjoy it then there’s no pressure to return, but this will be a great chance to have a go and to have a bit of fun. The bowling green is such a magnificent facility in our Village; it’s up to all of us to see that its long-term future be ensured.

Please like and follow the Facebook page at Facebook/Parwich Crown Green Bowling Club.

There is no game this Tuesday, but Thursday next the Team make the short journey to the striking setting of Chatsworth. A tricky place to play with its distinctive shape, slopes, run-offs and to come away maintaining the unbeaten record will indeed be a good result.
