Definitely a case of ‘making honey, while the sun shines‘. Thank you David G for these various bumble bee photos, I had not realised there are so many different types. Do look at the later photos too.

What a fantastic Wakes Week. A big thank you to the Carnival & Recreation Committee, the Oddfellows, the Legion, the Sycamore and everyone who works so hard every year to make it such a success. (And the weather was OK too!)
With all the great photos and results that have been coming in, it can be hard to find all that has been posted at parwich.org, so here is a list of the 2013 posts (with links) in the order the events happened.
Also if you can fill any of the gaps in our reporting, please contact us via parwich@hotmail.co.uk.

Red Arrows Fly Past
Posted in Oddfellows, Photography, Wakes on Saturday June 29, 2013| Leave a Comment »
How did the Oddfellows organise the Red Arrows fly past at this morning’s parade? Perfect timing.
I took a couple of photos, but unfortunately my computer crashed at the wrong time while uploading them, and they seem to have gone. Did anyone else get any photos of this? If you did and are happy for them to go on the Blog please email them to parwich@hotmail.co.uk. Also any other Wakes photos are welcome.
Thank you, Peter
Open Gardens Day 2013 – Photo Gallery
Posted in 2013, Flora, Gardens, Photography, Posts of Note on Sunday June 23, 2013| Leave a Comment »
Despite a rainy start to the day, Open Gardens stayed mostly dry, attracting more visitors than had initially been expected, and raising around £1100 in ticket sales, plant sales and cream teas. Seventeen gardens opened this year – up from eleven last year – and it was particularly good to see a number of new additions to the list of regular favourites.
If any of our readers is able to supply us with photos of the Childrens’ Show of paintings and plants in the Memorial Hall, we would delighted to share them. In the meantime, here is a small selection of photographs taken on the garden trail.

Snow photos – still a lot on the trail
Posted in 2013, Photography, Posts of Note on Monday April 1, 2013| 1 Comment »
Thanks to Jane B for these three photos, which were taken on Easter Sunday.
1. Junction of Dale Road and A515 – pretty difficult to see traffic coming from the Buxton direction.
2. Walking with Buntingo and Lotti – it may not look it, but it is 6 feet down to the track from where they are standing – it’ll be a few weeks before the snow has melted sufficiently to allow cycling.

The chestnut avenue planted to celebrate the Queen’s coronation is now gone, but for one tree; let us hope that the Parish Council are able to find a suitable alternative that will survive all the tree diseases that now threaten. Thank you to John F.S. for this photographic eulogy:

Signs of Spring – Photography Competition
Posted in Competition, Photography on Monday March 25, 2013| 3 Comments »
Closing date
12pm (midnight) Sunday 31st March
The competition is open to all, for photographs taken within 6 miles of Parwich village and reflecting the title ‘Signs of Spring’. The title can be interpreted literally, for example spring flowers or lambs, or with lateral thinking, for example servicing the lawn mower or even a car spring in a pot hole. Click here to see the rules.
Entries so far are shown below (click on each photo to enlarge), but keep them coming in (email entries to parwich@hotmail.co.uk):

Air Ambulance to the Rescue

Barbara L writes:
Because of the bad road conditions, Mum had to be taken to Hospital by air ambulance yesterday, as it was impossible to get an ambulance into the village.
I would just like to thank everyone out of the village who helped to get her to the air ambulance which landed in Bells yard. Now it is impossible to get into see her.
I must also say a big thank you to the paramedics who came to her – they were brilliant – and also to the doctor that came out. It had taken him three hours to get here from Belper.
Yesterday’s rescue service was provided by the Derbyshire, Leicester and Rutland Air Ambulance charity (DLRAA). If you would like to make a donation towards the vital work which they do, please visit their website. And if you would like to get involved within the village, Parwich First Responders are still short-staffed and desperately looking for new volunteers. Please ring Sue on 390334 or Patti on 390206.
Our thanks to Chris H for these photos, which show the helicopter landing yesterday.
Passage to Ballidon
Posted in 2013, Ballidon, Photography, Posts of Note, Weather on Monday March 25, 2013| Leave a Comment »
Here are some photos showing the valiant efforts being made to keep a road out of Parwich clear. Note that even with the snow plough going through, the road out of the village to the B5056 is only passable with great care and good clearance in a 4×4. There have now been several people in 2 wheel drive cars who needed to be towed out.
Although the snow plough clears a route through, the drifting quickly puts snow back on the road. If you leave the village be aware conditions may be much worse on your return.
