We received this yesterday from Alsop:

With so many people struggling financially, Ashbourne foodbank would welcome extra donations. They are currently short of tinned meats. I’m sure they could also use some inexpensive easter eggs (for the kids), as well as other food items . If people left items in the bus shelter by mid day on Friday, I will either get the foodbank to collect the donations or take them to a drop off point myself on Friday afternoon.

I have been strolling around the village for about five years now and only discovered these steps a few days ago. Although overgrown, there are steps behind the undergrowth. Can anyone guess where they are and let me(us) know of any history
Bottle of wine for the first right answer
Kind regards

Church meets on Sunday
It’s Palm Sunday on Sun 5 April. We can’t meet in St Peter’s but a congregation from Parwich and surrounding villages will be meeting on Sunday at 1800 via Zoom to say Evening Prayer together using words from the 1662 Prayer Book and 21st century technology so we can see and hear each other (but not singing!). To receive:
- the Zoom link shortly before the service please e-mail Rev Carollyn McDonald on revcarollyn@peakfive.org. You will only need to click on the link which will take you to a screen where all those joining in are visible; there is no need to search for any software in advance;
- the words for the service in advance or for any other query please e-mail andrew@colliefamily.plus.com or phone 390684.
We hope to see and hear you.

This village never ceases to amaze me – you are all lovely people and the rainbows and teddies have brought such joy over the past couple of weeks. So for Easter week please can we do just one more!!
I was thinking if we could create the biggest village Easter hunt the kids have ever seen so hide pictures of eggs, bunnies or anything Easter related then we can all have fun finding them.
Then finally email us photos of your Easter creations to parwich@hotmail.com or lucywigley@googlemail.com and the best pictures will win an Easter prize. We will have a prize for under 7’s, 7-15 yr olds and finally 15 and over so everyone can get involved (Liz E I’m sure your dying to send us some 😀). Photos to be sent by Monday 13th April.
Happy Hunting

Update: – the packs Rob brought back for this weekend have sold but he has more at work which he can bring back on Monday – let him know this weekend if you are interested, or give him a call on Monday on his mobile.
Rob has several catering packs of unsmoked, rindless back bacon for sale. They are large packs – 2.25 kg; it’s hard to count but we are guessing there are over 36 slices of bacon per pack (it looks reasonably thick). The use by date is the 16th April. See back, top and side views below.
The bacon has not been frozen and therefore the packs could be split into smaller portions and frozen for future use. Each pack is selling for £10. Call us on Parwich 203 or 07812 996851 to order and arrange delivery / collection.

Then latest news on bin collections can be found here
From DDDC-
Recycling backlog
We are very conscious that some residents where recycling collections have been missed this week and last are getting concerned about when we might have capacity to react to the backlog as the coronavirus crisis continues to impact on this service. Please be aware that a contingency plan will be announced very soon that seeks to address how recycling collections will happen during this emergency situation.
In the meantime our appeal to households is that you stockpile any recycling rather than being tempted to burn it – which is bad for the environment – or to dispose of it in any other way.
Your continued patience and understanding in these exceptional times is much appreciated.

Bin collections update – Wednesday 1 April
The bins situation today is that household waste collections continue as scheduled, but there are no garden rounds, food is being collected on the grey bin/black sack rounds and only one of the usual five recycling crews is out collecting.
Household waste collections remain a priority for our reduced crews.
More about today’s scheduled recycling rounds >
Looking at the website it looks like we won’t get a collection today

We have received the following from DDDC:
Food waste
A reminder that due to the coronavirus outbreak we are now collecting your food waste *fortnightly* on your scheduled household waste collection day.
If you are running out of the biodegradable food caddy liners we supply, you can use instead any biodegradable bag that conforms to BS:EN13432 standard displaying the logo in the middle of the photo shown.
In the current circumstances we are also happy for you to put food waste direct into your kerbside caddy (it may need washing out afterwards) or add your kitchen caddy to your kerbside collection.
Thank you.

Hopefully you are busy creating your own bears. I just wanted to share mine and Dougie’s creation I’m not sure if it belongs in the Tate Gallery or some horror movie!

Can’t wait to find yours soon

Hey Lucy we’re ready and waiting!

Steve J
I am an elderly bear so I am looking out for you from my bedroom window

My polar bear (an Ursus maritimus) is quite enjoying himself this week, spotting children as they walk past. My daughter called him ‘Boris’, when she won him at a funfair many years ago, but I have to say that Boris-the-Bear preens himself much better, regularly combing his fur/hair, than the human Boris (Homo sapiens). It’s a bit cold in the garage window, but he’s quite used to that. Boris-the-Bear asked me to thank Lucy M for the chance to be brought out of mothballs for a bit.

Look what we found today – has anyone else seen ‘Pooh’

Firstly I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone in the village for putting rainbows on display (special thanks to Rosie W for Dods Hill and Lucy B for the Green) it really made my kids (and mine!) week. We have done a rainbow hunt every single day!!
So to carry it on how about from Monday we create a bear hunt? if you could draw your best teddy bears or even put a real teddy bear out so we can find it, it will hopefully carry on spreading some joy in these difficult times.

We are indebted to Sue and Mike H for this information on Ashbourne shopping –
Shopping possibilities in Ashbourne for those self-isolating or just wanting to avoid more contactI just wanted to let people know the measures a couple of shops were taking against Coronavirus. Natural Choice is limiting it to just 2 shoppers at a time (and are still doing refills, wearing gloves) whilst Fresh Choice now serve you from the shop entrance, picking what you need, wearing gloves. Both shops are closing earlier (from 3 or 4pm) to process their deliveries. So if you are heading to their shops, best to go well before. Both places were not busy, with only a couple of people in the queue when we went yesterday after lunch. I have to say, they have all had a pretty exhausting few days but have devised brilliant new systems. The following shops below are offering deliveries. As Fresh Choice are dropping veg orders off at The Butchery in Tissington, they confirmed to me that they could coordinate just one drop-off there too. But people would have to place their orders with each individual shop. When I spoke to them they said they intend this service for those who really cannot leave their home.Contact Fresh Choice on email :pinder-dayal@hotmail.com or ring 0791 6142050To be clear, ring each shop to place an order, Pinder at Fresh Choice will only co-ordinate.ALHulme FishmongerAshbourne BakehouseFresh ChoiceCheddar GorgeNigel’s ButchersMark’s Family ButcherNatural ChoiceMaison du Bière (hard to write this one when it should be ” de la Bière!!”)ArtisanHope this helps if people are still finding it hard to get a delivery slot.Sue H

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
DELIVERY NOTES and Covid-19: Please note, there are a few factors currently effecting delivery timelines across the board, including shortage of oil supply due to extremely high demand, and the looming shortage of staff for suppliers due to Covid-19 risks and quarantining. If you are likely to run out in the next 6 weeks this order may not be suitable due to these potential issues.
Estimated delivery times are now up to 3+ weeks from the order close date. If you are low on oil, this order will not be suitable. Delivery times are estimated and subject to supply, weather conditions and the effect of Covid-19 on the delivery chain, so please order early. For peace of mind, we always recommend ordering when you have around six weeks supply left in cold conditions. However, if you do not need to order, we would recommend holding back as rates are higher than they should be due to the demand and current shortage of stock.
Please also be aware, the Easter Bank Holiday at the start of April will also increase demand for oil and timelines.
Due to Covid-19 some suppliers are no longer leaving delivery dockets at the time of delivery, they will be posting after delivery them instead.
Rate: £0.3895 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Owing to current restrictions on gatherings and non-essential activities, and most importantly in the interest of everyone’s health and well-being, the PDHS has decided not to hold Open Gardens this year.
We are hopeful though and will continue to plan for the future. It may be that we hold a smaller event in the autumn and we will keep you updated. Feel free to join our group on Facebook so you can keep in touch with fellow gardeners and share photos of your activities as we are sure lots of you are enjoying the sun and spending time tending the first spring blooms.
Until then, keep safe and virus-free and thank you so much to everyone who has participated in the past.
On behalf of the PDHS Committee.

Parents of Parwich (Alsop-en-le-Dale, Ballidon and Pikehall) we hope your first week of home schooling is going well! We thought we’d try to lend a hand by setting your children a few challenges. First up a painting or drawing challenge, the title this week “My House”.
Can you paint or draw a better picture than me?
Paint or draw a picture of your house and ask a parent to email us a photograph of it. Your pictures will be featured in a special gallery here on the blog for all the village to see. The best picture will win an Easter egg and stand a chance of being on the cover of this years Parwich Wakes program! Be sure to send in your picture before Thursday 2nd April and look out for another challenge!

Acute staffing issues caused by the coronavirus outbreak means bin collections in the Derbyshire Dales have been further impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
Derbyshire Dales District Council announced on Tuesday that staff absences due to self-isolation measures meant garden waste collections would be suspended from Friday – but green waste is now suspended with immediate effect.
Some scheduled recycling collections also didn’t happen on Wednesday as bin crews prioritised general household waste collections.
The District Council does not have the resources to return for any garden and food waste collections missed to date this week.
Food waste will now be collected fortnightly – with household waste – rather than weekly.
Dales residents are being warned to expect further disruptions as the council’s contractor Serco have adopted the Government’s social distancing guidelines, meaning two rather than the usual three staff on each truck.
A full list of service changes due to the coronavirus outbreak is being updated regularly at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/coronavirus

The delivery from Lestor Lowe will take place on Tuesday/Wednesday. As the delivery charge will be £18 we need enough people on the order to spread the charge. If you can confirm whether or not you want to be part of it by Thursday evening this will give me enough time to confirm to everyone that it is going ahead. The order has to be in on Friday.
You will need to ring and place your order with LL, either paying by card or adding it to your account. Please tell LL that you want to be part of the Parwich special delivery. The delivery charge will be placed on my account and the delivery will come to Nethergreen Farm. When you collect your order from here you can pay me your proportion of the delivery charge.

Derbyshire Dales District Council’s car parks remain open during the coronavirus outbreak for the benefit of local residents who are working from home or making essential visits as set out by Government.
However, on Tuesday evening (24 March) the council put up clear signage asking motorists if they needed to be there and to follow current Government coronavirus measures (poster attached).
Parking charges will be suspended temporarily until further notice.
