June Parwich Film Show

A very special showing this month:  The BAFTA award winning Best short film about our local Ashbourne beef farmer, Jay Wilde, who struggled with sending his cattle to slaughter.  Jay and his partner will be on hand afterwards to answer any questions.

Oddfellows’ Bowls Day

There are still a few places available for this Saturday. The bus leaves The Green at 10.30 am – please contact Bill if you are interested in going.

Calling Local Bee Keepers

I used to keep bees when I lived in NE Norfolk some years ago and greatly enjoyed the hobby. I’m keen to do so again up here in Alsop, but I’m concerned that nectar and pollen from our local trees and flora might not be sufficient to sustain a colony year round. Is our area a relative desert for honeybees?
I should say that I’m not so much interested in getting loads of honey; just giving the bees a place to thrive and for me to study them.
Grateful for any advice.

Potholes

The Parish Council has received a number of comments about potholes in and around the village. The Parish Council has no powers to deal with these are they are the responsibility of the Highways Authority, Derbyshire County Council. They do respond to problems logged on their website which can be reached here.

If you wish to log an issue and are unable to this site the Parish Clerk can assist you.

Legion Bike Ride

Thank you to everyone who braved the early rain and joined us on the Legion’s family bike ride. When the rain dried up, it was perfect riding conditions and we were rewarded at the end with a spectacular double rainbow over Minninglow.

The next ride is scheduled for Sunday 21st July, so get the date in your diary and join us.

Local Projects Fund

Worthy causes in the Derbyshire Dales are being invited to apply to Derbyshire Dales District Council for funds from its Local Projects Fund.

The Fund enables Derbyshire Dales District Councillors to support community led initiatives in the area they represent.  Each year £900 is allocated to each Councillor to allocate to projects or initiatives in their Ward that will benefit the local communities and be valuable to the area.

Applications can be made by local groups that are based within the Derbyshire Dales that can demonstrate community benefit. For example:

  • Parish and town councils (for specific projects only)
  • Young people’s groups
  • Locally based charities
  • Benevolent societies

The District Council welcomes applications from organisations who meet the criteria and it’s now easier than ever to apply online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/localprojectsfund where further information is availble

Oil Price Down

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Oil prices continued to slide on Friday morning, ending the month of May with the largest monthly drop since last November, as trade tensions weigh on investors outlook on the global economy and oil demand.

TIP: Over time water builds up at the bottom of the tank through condensation. To prevent this causing issues, we recommend using a water scavenger which will absorb contaminated water in the tank. Its simple to use, just fix the cord to the tank and drop in the scavenger. For more information please visit the club shop.

Rate:  £0.4690 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])
