Police Commissioner Elections

The candidates for the May 5th Derbyshire Police & Crime Commioners elections have now been announced:

Richard Bright: Conservative

Police & Crime Commissioners Candidates

Hardyal Singh Dhindsa: Labour

image

Tom Snowdon: Liberal Democrats

image

Stuart David Yeowart: UKIP
no photo or statement submitted to the ‘Choose My PCC’ website

Click on the images above to see their statements or click here to access all their statements as a PDF.

(Personal comment: The turnout for the previous election was very low, though I am not surprised as, like the Liberal Democrat candidate, I am not convinced that an election is the best way to fill the post. Also, it is hard to draw out any local references other than the local polling station being the Memorial Hall and that the Conservative candidate lives relatively locally in the Carsington ward. Price Increases at the Legion

Price Increases at the Legion

Just to let you know that prices at the Legion have gone up (or are about to). Chocolate, crisps, snacks, soft drinks and mixers are largely unchanged, as are some of our most popular spirits (e.g. Gordon’s gin, Grouse and Smirnoff vodka).

We have not put our prices up for three years, but in that time stock prices, utility bills and wages have all increased. Furthermore, the Legion has been VAT registered for the last 18 months. All these factors take their toll and so we have had to make the decision to put prices up. We hope you will be understanding and continue to support the Legion.

Diary Updates please

We are updating the Parwich.org Diary page, so if you have any Alsop, Ballidon, Parwich or Pikehall events (May and June) that you want to go in the Diary in time to be included in the Peak Five Churches Magazine’s May issue, please send them in by Saturday evening, 23rd of April.

Including our Diary in the Church magazine is important as it helps you reach some of those who are not on-line.

Please send Diary information to parwich@hotmail.co.uk or ring me on tel. 287.

Thank you, Peter

Become a TV Star

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Second week of the season and the weather was a little kinder to us this week. We also had occasion for the team to appear on the television again putting the style gurus right on how to deliver a wood (well done John H, lovely action). In addition expounding words of wisdom regarding building in villages, well I think that’s what it was. So not only can you get exercise, but you can become a TV star as well.

Matlock Tuesday League.
HOME -12 April – 6.00pm-Bakewell.

I must confess that the weather on the night left a little to be desired, but the team kept battling the elements. Again just as a reminder the format for the match is 4 doubles played up to 21. The first two games were shared one each with Sue A and Harry B just missing out 21 – 16. The second game was well won by Dawn A and Tony A 21- 15. Couldn’t be tighter. The final two games were won by Parwich with the last game being played by Edith and Rick (remember them from last year) in virtual darkness. Good job the pair of them like carrots. The results were Pat and John B winning 21-15 and Edith and Rick 21-18, giving us an overall win by 79 – 69.

  • Next match: Away – Cote Heath – 19 April – 6.00pm.

Matlock Thursday League.
AWAY – 14 April – Whitworth Park.

Having started so well in the doubles games last week it was a shame we didn’t keep up the scores this week. We were well down on our opponents after the games, but I don’t think we had the rub of the green. The singles turned out to put us a little nearer though. We managed to win 5 out of the six games. Edith and Rick carrying on from Tuesday night winning each of their games 15 – 7. The final score, however, resulted in a small loss 124 – 115. It would be good if, when we lost, we could score such a good number of points.

At least the East Midlands Today interview was a cracker.

  • Next match: HOME – Whitworth Park – 14 April – 1.45pm.

So having started the new season we have arranged a bit of a get together on Saturday (16th). Nothing special, but just a chance to send a few woods over the green for bit of fun. Come down to Parsons Croft at around 2.00pm and enjoy yourself.

Leatherbritches Ale at the Legion

From this Saturday we will be selling ‘The Bounder’, one of Leatherbritches most popular real ales for £2.50 per pint. If it’s successful others will follow….!

The bounder is 3.8% ABV and is described as:
‘A very pale golden ale with subtle grapefruit and spice aroma, leading to a long crisp bitter finish. Very refreshing.’

This is a long shot, but I wondered whether anyone in the village has any children’s life jackets (good quality please) that I can borrow for my grandchildren for a short period, or even buy. The children’s weights /heights are: approx. 17 K (98 cm); 20 K (117 cm); 31 K (139 cm).

Please contact Saskia on 440. Many thanks.

Exotic Ducks

As we are relatively new to the Peaks, we are not sure how unusual this is, thought other blog readers may be interested to see.

We were surprised to see three pairs of Mandarin ducks at a remote dew pond near Milldale last week while out walking, we popped back with a camera today, they appear to be nesting in the area.
