David G could not believe his eyes today, but fortunately was prompt with his camera:

Amazing, young birds fledging in early April. Do you know what species they are David?

Noise from Fernlea

We would like to apologise to anyone who has been troubled by the sound of our son’s band recording this week.  Particularly to our new neighbour who has just moved in. This will definitely finish today (Friday) as they will be going their separate ways. It seems that the roof lets through more sound than we expected when this experiment was planned so we won’t be repeating it. Thank you for your patience. Andrew & Nina M.

A Great Start to the Season

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

The stalwarts of the green sward are back in action after their winter break. We even have a couple of new members who will be swinging their arm this year. Unfortunately the bowls training course does not appear to be in place yet. Not sure if we can get sufficient numbers for the organisers to come to Parwich. I will keep you informed. So with the first sighting of a swallow we have come out of hibernation as well with our first game this week.

Matlock Tuesday League.

  • HOME -First match 12 April – 6.00pm Bakewell.

Tough first match this come down to Parsons Croft and support us.

Matlock Thursday League.
Home – 7 April – Baslow.

Now as you aficionados of this very fast moving game will remember there are effectively two elements to the Thursday League matches, doubles and singles. So just as a reminder and to those who are not aware (where have you been for the past twenty years) doubles are three pairs played up to 21, and six singles played up to 15.

It was good to see Ian J back playing and now living back in Parwich. He played with Dennis E and although they did not win they came very close just losing out by four shots 21 – 17. A similar score was achieved by Liz H and Clara E. The icing on the cake, or should that be the hailstones on the green! Sue A and Pat B coming home winners by 21 – 10. This gave us a lead of 55 – 52. Considering the weather the games were played in a really good score.

How is it that people who are good at sport and particularly this game can search around for their woods which have been unceremoniously dumped at the back of the cupboard under the stairs at the end of last season and play as though no break occurred. We, thankfully, have a few who play for us who fall within this category of superstars! Edith, Rick, and Dawn whilst scoring 45 points only had 15 scored against them. John H and Harry B also scoring 30 points to 11 against them. The final singles we won’t go into, hard luck John B! The final score after the six singles was Parwich 82, Baslow 41. Can’t be bad.

Overall Parwich 137, Baslow 93. Didn’t we do well.

Next match

  • Away – Whitworth Park – 14 April – 1.45pm.

The Balloon Landing

And thank you to John F-S for these shots of its landing:

DDDC New Horse Fouling Proposals

horse1

Derbyshire Dales District Council has responded to the views of local people on proposed “Horse Orders” that could become law in public spaces across the Derbyshire Dales from April. The District Council’s Environment Committee are considering  plans to adopt exclusion orders and a horse-on-lead reign policy in certain areas – and give council workers powers to issue fixed penalty notices to riders who fail to remove horse mess left by their animals in public places. The proposed orders seek to balance the needs of responsible riders against the interests of those affected by large piles of horse droppings, particularly toddlers.  Continue Reading »

A combination of yesterday’s good weather and the start of the ballooning season has certainly encouraged people to get their cameras out. Thank you to Lynn C for this one just before it landed:

Sycamore Development

According to a contact within Robinson’s, the brewery are in negotiation with a party interested in developing the Sycamore. To protect our source we can’t reveal too much about the party involved but will call it the HB Plan for now.

The HB plan is to develop the Sycamore as a small boutique hotel and fine dining vegetarian restaurant. Keeping the original frontage but demolishing the rear brick section and rebuilding over and beyond the current footprint. The proposed development will include –

  • 8 Deluxe guest suites
  • Commercial Kitchen facilities
  • Re-alignment of the stream behind the property to enable-
    • A waterside garden restaurant
    • Glass viewing platform
    • Ornamental garden and illumination along the stream
  • New wider car park entrance
  • Removal of side garden to provide car park with space for 24 vehicles and 2 coaches
  • technology including deep-ground thermal heating, solar panels, bio-fuel recycling plant and new miniature wind turbine generation.

We hope to have more on this exciting development shortly.

New Bowls Season starting soon

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLING CLUB
2016 SEASON

So the time has come the walrus said to think of other things, and you can’t think of a much better thing than Crown Green Bowls. You can now forget all about what Rob is going to do in the Archers and get down to Parsons Croft.

As from this weekend starting Saturday 2 April you can enjoy the delights of the best game there is after tidily winks.

The first match of the season is at home against Baslow on Thursday 7 April. Start time 1.45 pm. As you may recall we were playing in the higher echelons of the Thursday League last year, but difficult a task as it was we managed to get ourselves relegated back to the lower division.

The first Tuesday match is also at home on 12 April. Start time I think is 6.00pm and our opponents are Bakewell.

One final note is that we have a couple of new members joining us this year which is great. Many more would be most welcome. See you at Parsons Croft.

WARNING of High Water Levels

The brook has breached it’s bank in several places.

There is water pouring out of a number of manholes where the drains are not coping with the amount of water.

The tarmac has been forced up near the pump shed and Lynette has placed 2 bars on the road in that area to try and warn people not to drive on it.

Goldstraw Family at Crown Cottage

Christine B (née Goldstraw) has put several posts on our Facebook page asking if people remember her late grandparents (see https://www.facebook.com/parwich/ – Visitor are posts lower down on the left hand side of the page).

Can anyone in the village remember my late grandparents? Left with hat on Mr Clifford Goldstraw, next to him Harriet Goldstraw. They lived at Crown House, Parwich.

Crown House, formerly the Crown Inn and the original home of the Parwich Oddfellows, is now called Crown Cottage.
