Tea & Cakes are being served in the churchyard at Alsop, 11am – 4pm tomorrow (Monday). Please come along and support this event, in aid of Alsop Church. Stunning views, delicious cakes, not to be missed. Make a walk of it with great refreshments to look forward to.

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
We are having mixed fortunes on the green of late, a bit like the curates egg really (if we had a curate or indeed an egg). One good win away from home, one not so good loss, also away from home.
Matlock Tuesday League.
AWAY -26 April – 6.30pm – Whitworth Park.
Although I wasn’t there I am reliably informed that not even brass monkeys would have dared to show their faces, or any other part of their anatomy for that matter. Hail stones as big footballs could not put our redoubtable team off. By the time a wood had gone a couple of yards it had grown to a size big enough to make a snow man. Although we only won one of the 4 games the score wasn’t that bad with Whitworth coming out on top 78 – 62.
- Next match – Home – Bradwell – 3 May – 6.30pm.
Matlock Thursday League.
Away – Bradwell – 28 April.
Again the weather gods were against us (We know when to have a week’s holiday!). Evidently it was 4 degrees and throwing it down with rain. However, everybody kept going and though frost bite was a potential problem we overcame. We lost the 3 doubles games by 55 – 47 with Ian J and Liz H playing a great game to win 21 – 13.
The singles were shared 3 apiece with Tony A and Dawn A both winning 15 – 3. The final singles score of Parwich 77 to Bradwell’s 74 gave us an overall win 124 – 119. What a team!
- Next match – Wirksworth – 5 May – 1.45pm.
Another ‘welcome all’ get together tomorrow (Sunday) 2.00pm. You can’t afford to miss the cakes again! Can’t believe we will already be in May.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
Oil continues to shrug off oversupply fears after US Federal Reserve’s decision to hold interest rates, lifting prices above $48. Crude prices now almost 70pc higher than the 12-year lows of around $27 a barrel seen in late January. With the continued cold snap, please do check your tank levels.

Following one previous co-option notice to fill a vacancy on Parwich Parish Council the vacancy remains. This vacancy can be filled by co-option.
If you are interested in becoming a parish councillor and can fulfil the eligibility criteria below then please contact the clerk to Parwich Parish Council, Mr A Martin via email to: clerk@parwichparishcouncil.org.uk or by telephoning 01335 216238. The closing date for submissions is Tuesday, 10th May 2016 at 5 pm.
The eligibility criteria is as follows:
You must:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Be a British citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland.
- Be on the parish electoral roll on the day of co-option and thereafter, or
- Have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish during the whole of the 12 months preceding the day of co-option, or
- Have had your principal or only place of work in the area during the whole of the 12 months preceding the day of co-option, or
- Have resided in the parish, or within 3 miles of it, for the whole of the 12 months prior to co-option
- Have not held any paid office or employment under this authority
- Have not been a person adjudged bankrupt
- Have not been a person who, within five years before the day of co-option, has been convicted of any offence and has had passed on him/her a sentence of imprisonment for a period of not less than 3 months (whether suspended or not) without option of a fine
For information
There are usually 10 parish council meetings each year, usually on the third Wednesday of each month, with the exception of August and sometimes December. Councillors have to abide by a code of conduct and complete and sign certain documentation which becomes a public record.
It is expected that all councillors attempt to attend all meetings wherever possible. The meetings usually start at 7.30 pm and generally last at least 2 hours, sometimes longer when the agenda is particularly long. Members of the public regularly attend the meetings to contribute, raise issues and listen to proceedings.The next parish council meeting to discuss this is Wednesday, 18th May 2016 at 7.00 pm in Parwich Memorial Hall.

Despite the cool weather the bumblebees seem to be quite active. In my garden they are going for the lungworts (pulmonaria) and the perennial wallflowers (erysimum) rather than the spring bulbs. What are they making a bee line for in your garden?

There will be a family fun afternoon on Saturday 11th June from 2pm onwards to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. More details will be published shortly (and will arrive through your letterbox) but the event will take place on Parson’s Croft and will involve a toast to the Queen, BBQ, Crown Competition and lots of family games.

Be inspired by Derbyshire Open Art Competition
DCC has been running the competition successfully for 34 years and it’s open to amateur and professional artists, including children. The resulting exhibition is supported by Tarmac and the Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.
Entries for the competition must capture an essence of what Derbyshire means to the artist. The subject could be a Derbyshire landscape, a view of the artist’s street or home town, local people, still life or representations of local stories. Entrants can use most mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolours, drawing, print, collage, manipulated digital imagery or three-dimensional work. The closing date for the competition is Saturday 11 June.
DCC’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Dave Allen said:
“Our exhibition has been attracting a wide and appreciative audience for over 30 years and I expect the same this summer.”I am delighted that we buy the winning entry to add to our art collection at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery which makes it available to view beyond the dates of the exhibition.”
Prizes totalling £2,250 – including a £750 first prize – are on offer along with the opportunity to display work at our Museum and Art Gallery in Buxton.
Prizes will be announced at the preview evening on Friday 24 June.
Artists can submit up to two works which must be handed in between 10am and 4.30pm on Friday, 10 June or Saturday, 11 June, to the Museum and Art Gallery on Terrace Road in Buxton.
An independent panel of judges will select the winners of nine prizes, including one for sculpture and also one for work by artists aged 21 or under. Visitors to Buxton Museum will have the chance to vote for their favourite while the exhibition is on − the Visitors’ Choice will be announced on Tuesday, 9 August.

Free caddy liners being delivered across Derbyshire Dales
Derbyshire Dales District Council’s annual delivery of free food caddy liners has started to all 34,000 homes in the district.
Undertaken by a dedicated team – not bin emptying crews – the deliveries will take around three weeks to complete.
Dales residents are being advised that if they haven’t received their year’s supply of caddy liners by the end of May they should email waste@derbyshiredales.gov.uk or contact the District Council’s Waste Helpline on 01629 761122 before 30 June.
Caddy liners will not be delivered if requests are made after this date but will be available to buy from the Town Hall in Matlock, from the council’s leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth and from Ashbourne Tourist Information Centre, Bakewell Pet Supplies and Eyam Village Post Office.
Properties that use black sacks for household waste collections will also receive a free roll of sacks during April and May. The same applies to residents who have subscribed to the council’s compostable sacks scheme for garden waste – they will receive a roll of compostable sacks.
Anyone who currently uses black sacks for household waste and hasn’t yet subscribed to the compostable sacks scheme for garden waste can complete the online form at http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/waste or call the Helpline.
If black sacks/compostable sacks have not been delivered by the end of May, residents should contact the District Council before 30 June as sacks will not be delivered after that date.

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
So from the giddy heights of TV stardom it was back to the mundane grind of everyday bowls life. We also visited a new venue this week, but with little success. Perhaps we will be able to seek our revenge when we play on our green.
Matlock Tuesday League.
AWAY -19 April – 6.00pm – Cote Heath, Buxton.
I did not realise that Buxton had so many crown green bowls clubs. There are four to my knowledge. This was the first time for most of us to play at Cote Heath. When our Club started years ago we played in the top division of the league and Cote Heath has remained there all these years. Last year they got relegated down to our division, but seeing their results so far I don’t think they will be down for long. The evening although cold was beautiful. Shame our bowls did not match it. At least all four of our pairs managed to get to double figures and Dawn A and John B won our only game 21 – 18. Even our redoubtable pairing of Edith and Rick could only manage to get to 14. The first match of the season Cote Heath scored a maximum 84, but we showed ‘em and restricted them to a measly 81! Final result was 81 – 57 to our opponents.
- Next match – Away – Whitworth Park – 26 April – 6.15pm.
Matlock Thursday League.
HOME – Chatsworth – 21 April.
There was a bit of a rarity in this match with Pat B and Ian J winning a doubles games and restricting their opponents to less than ten. They won 21 – 5 with Ian on fire. They were very ably supported by Sue A and Dennis E only losing by 21 – 17 and Audrey and Harry B also just losing by 21 – 16. This gave us an aggregate score of 54 – 47 after the doubles games. We carried on doing well in the singles winning 4 out of the 6 games with Edith R and Tony A being our best winners. The final score in the singles was Parwich 80, Chatsworth 67, giving us a grand win by 134 points to 114.
- Next match – AWAY – Bradwell – 28 April – 1.45pm.
It was good to see a good number of people on the green for our ‘welcome social’ last Saturday. Although I wasn’t there I’m reliably informed the cakes were delicious – see what you missed!
