We’ve been lucky this weekend with a dry slot in between unsettled weather patterns. Sadly Monday will see a return of damp and cool conditions for the rest of the week ahead.

Jack, the Goldstraw’s Senegal Parrot, has escaped. Please ring them on 390370 if you see him

UPDATE David G found Jack this morning (Mon) being mobbed by jackdaws on Creamery Lane. He is now back at home, dishevelled and somewhat distressed but safe. He has also taken to imitating jackdaws and a growling dog so has learnt a lot in his 24 hours of freedom!

Two Wins This Week

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

Back top league matches and two very good wins this week. Nobody turned up for our first open evening on Monday night, which is a real shame. We will repeat the evening this Monday. Get off the couch and come and have a go. Its one hour out of your life!

Matlock Tuesday bowls league.
Home – Matlock Golf Club – 27 May.

We always seem to have good close games against the Golf Club and this match was no exception. We each won two games, but thankfully the ones we lost were by a smaller margin than Matlock. Edith for once sat this match out and Rick played with Tony and the pair of them won handsomely 21 – 12. Dawn and Dot also played very well winning 21 – 13. The final result gave Parwich 69, Golf Club 67. We were one place ahead of our opponents in the league. This win will keep us there.

  • Next match – Away – Bradwell – 3 June – 6.30pm.

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Hope Works – 29 May 2014.

Hope Works are just ahead of us in the league and we needed to score well against them. Our doubles pairs played a blinder winning two out of the three games with Liz and Sue coming out on top 21 – 10. The overall score after the doubles was 56 – 49 to Parwich. For once we struggled in the singles only winning two of the six games, but our defeats were less costly. Tony A winning 15 – 3 and Dawn 15 – 7. We sneaked a win by one point in the singles and winning overall by 127 – 110. Unfortunately this points total is not enough to get us above Hope Works, but a win is a win.

  • Next match – Away – Baslow – 5 June – 1.45pm.

See you Monday night.

John B.

This bird has been with us since February. He loves peanuts and shows no sign of leaving!

Paul B’s Weedkiller Weekly #78

Hello Possums,

Prince Charles, during his recent visit to Canada, insisted that the gap between rich and poor people must be narrowed. As a direct consequence, the first phase of 200 affordable starter homes will commence early summer within the grounds of the Charles and Camilla’s residence, Highgrove House.

Prince Charles has had his pocket money stopped for a month by Mummy, after an unguarded comment to a Jewish lady, making reference to President Putin’s actions in the Crimea, provoking a serious backlash and outrage in Russia. His comment, made during his recent Canadian tour, has aggravated an already tense situation; it may come to pass that the Prince will have to eat a large slice of his own Duchy Original Organic Humble Pie.

A jubilant candidate, named Francis Drake, won the first UKIP seat on Weymouth & Portland Council in Dorset, beating Lib Dem mayor Ray Banham. However he did not join in the celebrations until after he had finished his game of bowls.

Derbyshire Open Arts today

You can still visit Ruby and Gill’s exhibitions in Parwich (and see the sale of work by Ray Stone) today, but also John F-S also recommends:

Do visit Sue Prince, who is taking part in Derbyshire Open Arts, at Beechenhill Farm, Ilam.

Open 10am-5pm Mon 26May.

If you go to Ilam, don’t forget to sample the excellent ‘Tea & Cakes’ at Alsop Church whilst en route.

The results in the East Midlands region for the European Parliament elections are as follows:

UKIP 32.90%
Conservative 25.99%
Labour 24.93%
Green 5.98%
Liberal Democrats 5.42%
An Independence from Europe Party 1.91%
BNP 1.64%
English Democrats 1.04%
Harmony Party 0.20%

UKIP and Labour have increased their percentage of the vote, with the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and BNP all having a reduced percentage of the vote.

The following five candidates will now represent our Region in the European Parliament:

UKIP Roger Helmer
UKIP Margot Parker
Conservative Emma McClarkin
Conservative Andrew Lewer
Labour Glenis Willmott

Added 26th May: the turnout of registered voters in our region was 32.6%, slightly poorer than the national turnout of 34.19%. Take into account that not all eligible to vote are registered to vote ….

Nationally UKIP are now the largest UK MEP political group, with the Liberal Democrats so far in fifth place below the Greens, with the Scottish and Northern Ireland results still to be included. The BNP have lost all the seats they had. See the BBC website for full information.

Our Weatherman in the Village says:

We don’t need a rain gauge to know it’s wet – just as well!

Sadly, it doesn’t look like getting much better with low pressure dominating this week. So, more of the same in prospect for the coming period, with no obvious let up in the showery conditions.

Ray Stone’s Pottery Sale

Thank you for all the support this weekend. All proceeds are going to the National Stroke Association and Ashbourne Stroke Club.

More pots have been brought down from the loft today!

The pots and sculptures are pieces made over Dad’s life time and many haven’t been seen before.
