Our weatherman on the hill says:

A large high pressure system is going to give another rather cloudy week, frost free, dry, temperatures at low double figures and, apart from Monday, not very much sunshine. There is a large depression waiting in the wings to possibly change things towards next weekend.

Rannoch’s Quiz Night

The Government is proposing changes to the way national park authorities are governed in order to increase local accountability – and it wants to hear people’s views.

At present, the Peak District National Park Authority is governed by 30 members, 16 of whom are councillors appointed by the local authorities within the national park. Six are parish councillors elected by their peers but officially appointed by the Secretary of State, and eight are appointed directly by the Secretary of State for their specialist knowledge of national park issues. Dog Walkers

An email has come in from PDNP saying that Peak Park Rangers will be putting up their usual signs reminding people about being responsible dog owners, especially during lambing season and being vigilant where there are cows with calves in fields.

Drawing underwater: Part Five

In September 2011, I was able to showcase some of the work I produced last summer, in the annual show of the Society of Wildlife Artists, at the Mall Galleries, London.

The exhibition of all my underwater art and more was due to be on show in Dorset in May… but due to a slight change of plan, it has been postponed till later this year!

I will keep you all posted, and I will have a mini-show in the village hall before the work heads south.

Parish Precept

On behalf of the Parish Council I would like to respond that it was of great regret to us all on the Parish Council that such a precept rise was considered to be necessary, a decision that we felt we had to make in light of our likely income and expenditure for the coming year. We would be very happy to provide a full explanation for the basis of our decision at our next Parish Council meeting on 21st March at 7.30 where anyone who is interested is very welcome to attend.

Lent Lunch tomorrow

JF-S

Parwich Lunch – Thank you

Parwich Lunch has now been running for 5 months and it is really becoming a significant date in the monthly village calendar. There is a good core of regulars and this week we welcomed some first timers, from the village, Ashbourne as well as London. More than 30 people sat down to a deliciously tasty and tender Lamb Hot Pot followed by a creamy Rice Pudding with plenty of skin for those that wanted it. There is always plenty of conversation, teasing and just a great atmosphere in the Hall over this lunchtime.

Why not come and join us next month on Monday April 16th; you really will be made to feel welcome, whether your 5, 50 or 100.  All dietary requirements are catered for and the menu can be adjusted if you don’t like something: as long as Val knows in advance.

Finally what I’d really like to say is thank you, thank you to Val and Alison (Catering 4 Parwich) for the organisation, cooking and the creation of a really super occasion.

Update to closure of Monsdale Lane

New Update – Monday 12, noon.

Following an update from Derbyshire County Council, Monsdale Lane is closed with restricted access throughout the week.  Currently there is a large hole which they will try to plate at the end of the day, to allow full access, but this may not happen.   So if the road is closed at the Creamery Road end, then access is via the longer way around, out the village & up Highway Lane, the road to Pikehall.
