High pressure rules for the next several days, unfortunately the anticyclone contains a lot of cloud. The week will be warm for March without air frost but rather cloudy. There may be sun at times and day time temperatures into low double figures.

Film Night on Friday

This wonderful and moody adaption of Jane Eyre stars Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, and Dame Judi Dench, and was shot on location in many areas of our own Derbyshire, including Haddon Hall, Wingfield Manor and Stanedge.

Jane flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester. It is clear that the isolated and imposing residence – and Mr. Rochester’s coldness – have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. She must now act decisively to secure her own future and come to terms with the past that haunts her – and the terrible secret that Mr. Rochester is hiding and that she has uncovered.

More details on Waste Collections

Sent in as a comment from Saskia, but too good not to have it as a post.

So, let me get this straight:
Collections will be as follows:
Week 1:
Monday: Green – all kitchen waste, including egg shells (see also Sunday’s collection), but no chicken bones or olive stones; garden waste: only clippings from the following: Celastraceae, Malvaceae and Rosaceae (see also Thursday’s collection); Black: plastics, but only rigid (see below for rigidity testing *), small broken household items with dimensions not exceeding 37 x 45 x 12 cm, ink cartridges, but not HP colour.

Tuesday: Blue – plastics, only non-rigid * (see below); glass, but no broken beer or white/red wine glasses (see additional late-Friday night collection); paper, including newspapers but not the Sunday Mirror.

Wednesday: I can’t quite remember: is it babies and toddlers? But which bin was it? I’m not sure whether I could have misunderstood the instructions though.

Thursday: Green – all green waste but NOT from Celastraceae, Malvaceae and Rosaceae. Also: kitchen waste, but only chicken bones and olive stones (see also Monday’s collection).

Friday: Blue: all recyclables, but no plastics (see Monday and Tuesday). No cricket bats.

Friday-extra: there will be a new extra late-night collection (approx. 23:45) of broken beer and wine glasses, but no champagne flutes.

Saturday: no collection, phew …

Sunday morning: this is a new collection: half-eaten croissants, wastage from fried and boiled eggs, grapefruit and toast, only soggy. The Sunday Mirror (read-only).

Flowers for Mother’s Day

Before I go completely apoplectic at the parish council meeting on Wednesday 21 March 2012 can anybody tell me how an increase in the precept of such magnitude can be justified?
Derbyshire County Council …………. Increase in Council tax….. 0.0%
Derbyshire Police Authority……….. .  Increase in charge……. … 0.0%
Derbyshire Fire Authority …………….  Increase in charge……. … 0.0%
Derbyshire Dales District Council ….. Increase in Council Tax …..0.0%

Parwich Parish Council………………  Increase in Council Tax….. 46.1% !!

For a village of less than 400 souls this is some kind of increase. What on earth can a Parish of this size spend an additional £2000 on?

I am not aware of any costs to the Parish Council other than an extremely expensive Parish Clerk, an expensive Internal Auditor, and a mowing contract, that even before the debacle of last year, would have made Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Club green with envy.

Please let me know?

(PS you should have seen the diatribe before I watered it down!)

Council Tax

I have just recieved my council tax bill for this coming year, and despite the announcement on Parwich webb site that there is a council tax freeze untill 2016, this does not appear to be the case.

According to the breakdown on the bill the offending party is Parwich Parish Council, whos spending forecast has gone up by a staggering 46.2%, what is it that they do not understand about the word austerity.

Mr Cameron is trying to bring local government spending under control, but he obviously has not heard of the village of Parwich. This rise is totaly unaccepable, and I must ask this is rectified without delay.

The A52s Need Your Vote!

We have received a request from Parwich-based acoustic folk-rock combo The A52s:

The Y Not Festival is asking people to vote for their favourite local bands to play at the festival. We would be very grateful if you would give us your support. You have to let the festival know via Facebook – emails are not counted.

Click on the link above, look for the second post down which reads “Calling all Y Notters” and add a comment. The vote is only open for 44 hours. Pass the word on to others as well – we need people power!

Thank you!

Parwich Lunch – Book by Friday night

Full details, click here.

Stargazers are being asked to look out for Orion the hunter in the night sky over the Peak District from March 10-17 after cloudy weather impeded last month’s survey.

The Peak District Dark Skies Group is asking people to help monitor the impact of light pollution by finding out how brightly they can see the distinctive constellation of Orion.

The aim is to scout out the best, darkest locations for star-gazing in the Peak District National Park and its surrounding areas.

People are asked to go to the website to find instructions and charts to download.

To take part in the survey they should go outside after 8pm on a clear night between March 10 and 17 to spot Orion, with its distinctive “belt” of three bright stars in a line, with a smaller three-star “sword” below.

Then they need to match what they see with a series of star charts of varying brightness. Finally they should send their findings, with location, time and date, back to the website.

The early Spring is over, a sunny Monday gives way to a cooler rather cloudy week with some rain on Wednesday, frost is unlikely. The next Atlantic high pressure system is going to be sitting down in the Azores unfortunately.

It has been some time, but the waiting is over folks! The latest enthralling instalment of Parwich Heights has been published.

The long months of winter are coming to an end and – although today is a bit grey – we are now seeing and smelling the glorious signs of spring. The latest instalment of the romantic novel written by the readers of parwich.org also has a spring-based theme. It’s almost as if the novel mirrors real life in our village!

Instalment Ten has been written by the inimitable and hugely talented Bridget Jones. It’s another page turner.

Click on this image to read her work…

Our authors and authoresses have lots of fun writing Parwich Heights. Once completed, we hope to publish the novel as a physical book for sale locally. The Parwich publishing empire is on its way! Maybe it’s time to launch a Sunday newspaper….!

George Woolley

Sadly, George Woolley passed away on Thursday 23rd February. George grew up in Mappleton before eventually moving to Parwich, where he has lived for almost 50 years. Initially he lived at Gibbon’s Bank before spending the rest of his life in Sycamore Cottages with his wife Kathleen, who he has been married to for 49 years. He has four sons, Robin, Andrew, Robert and David, a daughter Jayne, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

George has always been a real supporter of village life, involved in various committees, he sat on the Village Hall Committee for many years and was also the President of the Horticultural Society for a long time; horticulture was one of his keen interests.

His family invites you to join them at his funeral on Monday at 9am at St Peter’s Church, Parwich.

Area Community Forum – on Monday

The District Council’s next round of the Southern Area Community Forum will take place in on Monday 5th March at Parwich Memorial Hall at 7pm.  Everyone Welcome.

The Forums provide an opportunity for members of the public and representatives from community & interest groups to meet with District Council representatives to air views and ask questions.

As well as councillors and senior officers from the District Council, the sessions are attended by representatives from Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire County Council, the Peak District National Park Authority and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Anyone who can’t attend in person can participate via a live Twitter link.

For more information or to be added to our mailing list ring 01629 761302 or email communityforum@derbyshiredales.gov.uk

The District Council wants to make the forums as accessible as possible – and has made a short web video explaining how they work. Continue Reading »

Minutes of the Stepping Stones Pre-School, Parwich Open meeting held on

Present
Emma Dickinson, Gill Harrison, Tracey Fentem, Jennifer Barker, Vicky Yeomans, Janet Gosling, Nicky Edge, Sam Lomas, Felicity Watkins, Katy and Andy Wayne.

Apologies
None

As this is an open meeting there was no Agenda.

Gill Harrison, Treasurer welcomed all to the meeting and gave a rough scenario of were we are at because of our Ofsted report. We might be thrown a lifeline Derbyshire County Council are visiting tomorrow (Friday 10 February 2012) to see how we have progressed since the Ofsted report and if they are happy we will get funding for 6 children (3 more than we were) from Easter. If we don’t then we can only run until May 2012. We currently have 10 children on the books and 6 leave this July for School. In September that leaves only 4 children this would only bring in £150 and it costs £411.61 a week to run at the moment. There is £500 in the cash flow and £900 in Reserve account to cover Redundancy if required. At the moment we are not viable to run in September 2012. Last year we had a lot of children funded so that’s what kept us going. We need to cut down on costs and push the Pre School.

We need to do all we can to try our very best to keep the pre school open. We need to advertise in/on papers, radio, page on blog – Jane Bennett will help flyers and leaflets. We will have to make a decision June/early July as to whether the Pre School will open in September 2012.

Free Paint

We have several boxes and bags full of Dulux emulsion and other paint  tins and cartons, in a multitude of colours and each part used. Quite  a lot of it.

We don’t want it to go to landfill, if possible. If anybody would like  to come and collect it from Fernlea House opposite the village hall,  please just turn up or call us on 500.

You’ll be very welcome to take it away for free.

St George’s Day Parade

Almost 50 motorists have been stopped for not wearing a seatbelt or for using their mobile phone while driving following a road safety check in Ashbourne.

They were found during the latest Operation Safedrive day, a partnership campaign to ensure drivers are road safe and legal.

The checks place on Friday, February 17 at Ashbourne Fire Station on Park Road, thanks to the support of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, who are the lead on road safety.

During the checks the team, which included police officers and PCSOs from both CREST (Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team) and the areas local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams, issued a mixture of warnings and fixed penalty notices to:

• 44 drivers for seatbelt offences
• 14 for driving while using a mobile phone
• 11 people for driving vehicles with tyre defects
• 2 motorists were asked to remove their vehicles window tinting because it was found to be below legal visibility levels.
• 1 for number plate offences
• 1 motorist for their manner of driving Continue Reading »
