On Saturday morning it is the bulk rubbish collection; the dustcart picks up at various points in the village. Don’t lose it, use it – even if you only have a small amount to get rid of.
They will also be calling at Alsop this Saturday.
Further dates for 2009 have not as yet been published by Derbyshire Dales. As soon as we have the information, we will update the Calendar.

“Taser gun roll out – your opinion counts”
Recent news: For the last three years Taser stun guns have been making a difference on the streets of Derbyshire when used by specially trained police officers, not only keeping the public safe but also protecting our police officers. Now Derbyshire’s Chief Constable Mick Creedon has spoken out following the Government’s announcement to fund an extra 10,000 Taser devices to equip every police force in the country. Apologies for the late publication regarding this week’s Ashbourne News Telegraph. Unfortunately the blog team are a man down, as Peter is not well at the moment.
From Sunday, we will also be losing Christopher – so if you are interested in joining this very friendly, small team, please email us.
- p3. Keeping with the traditional name – A ‘new’ name for the hospital, but Mrs V Wright from Parwich who submitted two names is quoted as saying, “If that’s what people want then fair comment, but it’s a shame a new building hasn’t got a new name….”.
- p5. Compost fire firm wins ‘green’ award – Vital Earth which of course has Parwich links through Mr Robert Shields, has won the International Green Hero Award and will now be automatically put forward in European Business Awards for the Environment. A spokesman for the judges said that they were not aware of the fire incident, but this would not have necessarily affected their decision if they had known. Continue Reading »

New information has come to light about the theft of stone from a property at Brassington and a stone birdbath from Parwich on Tuesday 27th January 2009.
The circumstances are that at Brassington, the offender(s) stole two decorative capping stones and attempted to steal a stone ball from the gate pillars. At Parwich, the large bird bath was stolen from the front garden of the property.
The two capping stones were recovered in Newhaven. It is believed that a red Toyota Hilux vehicle may have been involved.
Anyone who can assist in this investigation should contact PC 151 Terry Holgate at Ashbourne Police Station on 0345 123 33 33, quoting crime numbers 5219/09 and 5270/09.

Robert Bunting offers help with the New Build
On behalf of the Parwich Memorial Hall Committee, the Fund Raising Group would like to thank Robert Bunting for his very generous offer of help with the building of the new hall. He has very kindly said that he would transport materials for the construction whenever it is possible. Robert made this offer in response to the recent letter sent out to each household in the community.
Any other offers no matter how small, will help us all to build this hall.

It is with sadness that we announce that John Myers, who lived for many years at Bradbourne Mill, has died. John spent many weeks in St Oswald’s hospital last year, before returning to his home at Tissington for Christmas. John was one of the traditional Derbyshire farming fraternity who always had time for you if you were passing the Mill, with his perceptive comments and friendly conversation.
The funeral service will be at St. Peter’s church on Tuesday 10th February at 2.30 pm. Please remember John’s wife Gladys, also her sisters Freda, Sheila and the rest of the family.

In case you haven’t noticed…Parwich has been transformed into a winter wonderland!
School was off this afternoon to the delight of the younger Parwichians. Most headed for the sledging hill which apparently worked perfectly. Good job you can still rely on gravity in these troubled times. Here are a few photographs to illustrate our magical landscape.

Thank you to everyone for making the children’s resuscitation course on Saturday so successful – to the 29 participants who made the day enjoyable and for the mutual support and encouragement you all gave. And of course Rachel and other members of the WI who supplied tea, coffee, cakes and soup – and of course invaluable emotional care during the breaks.
We are hoping to put on another day course later in the year – please let us know if you would like to put your name down.
If you cannot fit a full day in, but would like some personal teaching on resuscitating a young baby or child in difficulties, do please let us know. We hope to have our own child dollies soon and would be more than willing to fit in with you and pass on the knowledge we picked up – just let us know a time and place!
Many thanks to you all.

Just a reminder that once again Parwich & Ashbourne half term holiday is different from the rest of Derbyshire, because of the Ashbourne Shrovetide Football. So the children will finish after school on Friday 20th February and start again on Monday 2nd March.

Yesterday 29 of us attended probably the most important course in our lives – learning how to save a child’s life – that child could be yours!
Course was supported by the Charity ‘Just A Few Minutes’, organized by Alan Gibson consultant neonatologist at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and staff from Sheffield & Chesterfield Hospitals. We were dealing with the most precious of things, a child’s life, but never has a course seems so compelling and interesting. Considering the seriousness of the subject, at times we were in fits of laughter, especially when faced with some of the ‘real life’ scenarios and the initial ways in which we tried to deal with the situation. Between 19th and 26th Jan 2009, a stone trough was taken from a garden in Parwich. The owner feels it would have taken a couple of people to move it. If anyone notices any one acting suspicious around gardens, or just in general, can they please contact us. 5/6 weeks ago we had one taken from outside a house at Kirk Ireton, and we’ve had one go recently from Brassington. It may be that someone is now targeting these sort of items.
Thank you PC Ian Cooper

Although this work will have no impact on our community, it is only about 9 miles away and many of us may drive, walk or work in that area, so it may be of interest to read the Peak Park’s official press release.
Tearsall Quarry work given provisional go-ahead
A mining company’s application to work a Peak District open cast quarry for six years has been approved.
Members of the Peak District National Park Authority decided by 10 votes to eight to allow Glebe Mines to work Tearsall Quarry, on Bonsall Moor, near Matlock, due to exceptional circumstances secured by a legal agreement.
It followed an offer by Glebe Mines to give up its rights to quarry minerals at another environmentally sensitive site called Peak Pasture, on the eastern edge of Longstone Edge, near Bakewell, for at least four years while extraction takes place at Tearsall Quarry. Continue Reading »

The Parwich ladies romped to a very convincing win last night in Leek. The final score was 26-4 and it has to be said that the defending players – Sarah, Nia and Ruth did not break into a sweat! All sweating was left to Olivia Flowers, who has returned to the Parwich team after short child rearing break. Straight back in at GA she was darting around the D and popping the ball neatly in the net. Janette (also a Flower….) was on fine form launching impossible looking shots which sailed through the hoop without touching the sides. Continue Reading »

Update from your local officer
February 2009
I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year. At the New Year we had a good Mappleton Boat Race and Bridge jump. The event only impacts on us for a few hours each year, and does raise money for charity. We had no problems, and the one way system seems to continue to work well. Thank you to residents, and visitors to the event, for your co operation with this.
Across our Section we have, in recent weeks had a few cars broken into, and a few outbuildings broken into in rural locations. Some have occurred on our area, and are worth mentioning to you. Continue Reading »

Congratulations to Parwich Netball Team who began the spring season (the snowdrops are beginning to appear, but Spring!) with a 12 – 6 victory last night in the Leek Netball League.
The team was Olivia, Jan, Wendy, Jannette, Ruth (From the Bluebell), Sarah and Nia. They have been coached by ex England netballer Amanda Johnson for an added dimension!!!!
They play weekly so we should get regular up-dates. (Hopefully Nia will produce some match reports as entertaining as those on the Wakes Children’s Sports.)

Many hands made light work on Wednesday night at Blanche Meadow where some new faces were welcomed to help fold the latest community letter and put them into envelopes.
This boring task was helped along with coffee and lots of chatty ideas about how to raise more funds for our new Memorial Hall. The extra help was very welcome and the task took only one and a half hours instead of the usual three. The new helpers have gamely offered to help distribute the letters around the village – one way to help walk off those Christmas mince pies!
If there is anyone living in Ballidon or Pikehall who would deliver letters in their area that would be a great help. Please phone Patti Beasley on 390206 if you would like to help the New Build in any way at all.

At last week’s Peak District National Park Authority’s visit to Parwich, planning issues cropped up at various points through the afternoon, and took up most of the Parish Council & public slot. Now is our chance to say how we want local policy on planning applications to develop in the Park.
The Authority are now consulting on their Local Development Framework that will set the local policies for future planning decisions. The consultation period runs to the 10th of April, but there is a lot of information to assimilate. Those that are willing, please start looking now and share your thoughts with us here at PARWICH.ORG, or with your Parish Council or with Parwich Village Action Group. Alternatively let the Authority know your thoughts directly via policy@peakdistrict.gov.uk
(If you can’t face wading through the complex set of documents involved in the consultation share your thoughts on and experiences of the local planning process any way.)
This will impact on all who live and/or work in the Park. For the Authority’s press release Continue Reading »

Here are the notes his family prepared for the Vicar to read at Don Lowndes funeral yesterday (Wednesday) and some photographs sent by his daughter Linda. Once met, Don was not someone you forgot:
Don was born in Parwich in 1926. His Mother and Father were Harley and Kitty Lowndes. He had a sister Peggy and a brother Cyril.
He went to school in Parwich, and then joined Barnes’s in Ashbourne to an apprenticeship to become a ‘Black Smith’. He joined the Royal Navy in approximately 1942, and served in Portsmouth, then due to an accident, he was forced to come back to Parwich, where he became the village Black Smith, making thousands!!! of gates, which are probably still hanging today.
His passions at the time included Boxing – he was the DABA County Champion in 1950. In the late 90’s he was a major instigator of The Revived Ashbourne Boxing Club, which still operates today.

Don’t forget Parwich Primary School is again participating in Bag 2 School, where second hand clothing is exchanged for money. This is a fantastic fundraiser for us and a great way for you to create space in your wardrobe for all the new things you have been picking up in the sales. Bring your unwanted clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags to School. There is still time to have a good sort out for next Monday.
Children take your blue bags to School on Monday 26th Jan or by 9am on the Tuesday. Everyone else please leave your unwanted adults’ and children’s clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, shoes, belts and handbags in the School porch on the afternoon of Monday 26th January ready for collection on the next day.
Thank you
