Now you will no doubt be thinking that since John Barnett’s emigration to Buxton this column will not display the same unique brand of humour: how right you are! We will, however, at least try to keep you informed of our results down at Parson’s Croft this summer.
Tuesday saw the first match of the season, played in typical brass monkey weather. We ran out winners 76 – 71. Quite a good victory really as our opponents from Bradwell were in the higher division last season. Edith, Rick, Fran and Dot did well, but the other 4 (who shall remain nameless) not quite so well, managing to score 34 points between them out of the maximum 42. No doubt their time will come.
On Thursday afternoon, our opponents were Baslow, and since we were promoted to Division 1 last year, we knew that we had to perform to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, we didn’t, not helped by the fact that we had only 10 players when a full team is 12. Out of 9 games, only Keith and Tony managed to win. We lost 110 points to 140.
Don’t forget, new players are always welcome on Monday evenings at 6pm at Parson’s Croft, weather permitting.

Swallows at Alsop

Sent to us last night, first again Anthony C!
Spotted two earlier this evening, hawking above Church and Manor Farms at Alsop en le Dale.
Throughout his long life, my late Father (Tideswell family) looked forward to swallows returning in the Spring following their annual epic journey home from sub-Saharan Africa. As a child, I remember him watching the skies around this time of year and, having spotted the first, announcing with a happy smile: “Swallers are back!”.
Now he is gone, I make a point of whispering on his behalf, (and with the inevitable tear): “welcome back”, to the Swallers.

Oil Price Holding

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Brent Crude continues to climb passing $70 a barrel today on reports of US shale production slowdown. Delivery times 5 to 10 working days. However, as per last week, suppliers are keen to hold Kerosene rates as low as possible for club members.

TIP : Over time water builds up at the bottom for the tank through condensation. To prevent water causing an issue, I recommend using a water scavenger which will absorb contaminated water in the tank. Its simple to use, just fix the cord to the tank and drop in the scavenger. For more information please visit the club shop.
