Swallows at Alsop

Sent to us last night, first again Anthony C!
Spotted two earlier this evening, hawking above Church and Manor Farms at Alsop en le Dale.
Throughout his long life, my late Father (Tideswell family) looked forward to swallows returning in the Spring following their annual epic journey home from sub-Saharan Africa. As a child, I remember him watching the skies around this time of year and, having spotted the first, announcing with a happy smile: “Swallers are back!”.
Now he is gone, I make a point of whispering on his behalf, (and with the inevitable tear): “welcome back”, to the Swallers.

Oil Price Holding

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Brent Crude continues to climb passing $70 a barrel today on reports of US shale production slowdown. Delivery times 5 to 10 working days. However, as per last week, suppliers are keen to hold Kerosene rates as low as possible for club members.

TIP : Over time water builds up at the bottom for the tank through condensation. To prevent water causing an issue, I recommend using a water scavenger which will absorb contaminated water in the tank. Its simple to use, just fix the cord to the tank and drop in the scavenger. For more information please visit the club shop.

Rate:  £0.4600 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

Prosecution after alterations harm historic character of Grade II listed building in Peak District National Park

A married couple and a joiner have been prosecuted by the Peak District National Park Authority after making unauthorised alterations to a building dating back to the 17th century.

Christopher and Sarah Gillott, of Hurds Hollow, Matlock, pleaded guilty at Chesterfield Magistrates Court to five charges relating to their former home, The Lodge – a Grade II listed building within the conservation area of Winster. Joiner Simon Mcloughlin, of Greenhill, Wirksworth, also admitted five charges.

Due to the seriousness of the offences, Magistrates passed the case for sentencing to Crown Court, which can impose a higher penalty. Sentencing will be at Derby Crown Court on 24th April. Continue Reading »

Oil Price this weekend

imageUpdate for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club

Brent Crude passes $68 a barrel today up around $2 on the week. However, as the weather is warmer, suppliers are keen to hold Kerosene rates. If you require a top up before Easter please order this weekend.

TIP : By grouping your clubs order, the chosen supplier will visit your village with a full load and leave with an empty load, reducing substantially the numerous heavy goods vehicles that would normally drive through your village, thus reducing the impact on our roads and the environment. A club with 100 members will save hundreds of tanker vehicle trips though the village each year.

Rate:  £0.4587 (pence per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])
