Unfortunately during the night, a window pane was broken at both The Old Post Office and also the school. The sad fact is that it was done deliberately. If anyone else has suffered the same thing, can you let either of us know, myself or Fiona -Headteacher at the school. Also if anyone noticed any suspicious activity, please do let us know as it will help the police enquiries.Thank you,Alex & Fiona390743 or 390245

Many older residents in the area will remember Dr Williams, who was one of the GPs based at Hartington from the mid-1950s until the mid-1980s. He has recorded a variety of early memories from his time in the area, which the Hartington History Group has re-produced in pamphlet form for sale at £1, with the proceeds going to Hartington Community Group funds. Copies can be obtained directly from Sue Bruce at Hartington Post Office, or if anyone in Parwich would like a supply of, say, 10 copies to distribute locally please contact me, Richard Gregory, on rg3390717@gmail.com or 01298 84368.

Now that the weather is improving and the ground becoming firmer the Parish Council wants to have material removed from the Jubillee Pond to reduce the risk of flooding in the future and improve its appearance.
A tender form has been created on the Parish Council website which can be seen here.
If you are interested in tendering please use the form on our site or contact the Clerk.
Please bring this opportunity to the attention of anyone else you know who may be interested.

We have received the following statement from Derbyshire County Council via our Parish Council.
We recognise how important the condition of the roads in Derbyshire are to Derbyshire residents and the difficulties they are currently facing. However Derbyshire County Council is doing its utmost to complete the necessary repairs in a timely manner, and below is an update on the steps we are currently taking to alleviate what we consider to be a very challenging situation.
In the first week of March whilst the adverse weather was preventing us from getting on the roads we were only able to repair just over 323 pothole in that week.
Last week following the roll out of the approved investment and delivery plan on a four day week (due to back holiday) we completed just in excess of 1,000 pothole repairs.
We currently have just over 70 operatives out on the network repairing potholes.
We currently have 9 hotbox gangs in operation, working extended hours and weekends. As of Monday we will increase this number to 12.
All hotbox gangs have a mandate to find and fix.
We have patching gangs in all three areas of the county undertaking large sections of patching repairs.
We have two Jetpatchers focusing on Derbyshire rural network. We will continue to endeavour to complete the necessary repairs.
Regards
Cllr Simon Spencer
Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport & Infrastructure

Can anyone help me make my dog happy again. She’s not happy with me because I’m a rubbish ball thrower I managed to lose it in the pond near the pub. If anyone can lend me a net or retrieve Maggie’s ball she would appreciate having her favourite ball back. We are staying at croft cottage or you can call me on 07918106176. Thank you. Mandy

We have a new resident in the village. He arrived on Saturday 14th April. His name is Jackson and he’s a gorgeous tabby Tom cat who has been adopted from Cheadle Animal Welfare Society by Fiona.
Jackson is about 3 years old and was left behind when his owners moved. How unkind is that? He had to live in a shed and rely on a neighbour for food. Thankfully the neighbour asked for help and Jackson was taken into care. He lived in Hanley so has gone from being a Town Boy to being a Country Gent. I’m sure he will love living in Parwich, after all there is nowhere better.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
Crude passes $72 a barrel this week for the first time since December 2014. Political tensions and news that oil stockpiles close to falling below 5-year average have pushed crude higher this week.
Please do order early and allow plenty of time for delivery to avoid any problems. Please check your tank levels. If you are low on oil this club order will not be suitable.
We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB
You can tell that it’s the start of the bowls season because there are agonised brass monkeys all over the place. However, crown green bowlers are made of strong stuff and as we all know spring is just around the corner or is it at the end of the M1.
Tuesday League.
Away – Chatsworth – 11 April.
The winter as you know has been long and very wet and it was still doing it’s bit at Chatsworth. The chance to send a few practice woods down was not possible until Monday night. The Green at Parsons Croft was saturated as was Chatsworth’s. As you walked on the green the water welled up over your shoes and it was really cold. The games were shared two each with Pat and John B first on wishing they had stayed at home and watched the 500th repeat of the Wizard of Oz. They lost 7 – 21. Another married pair Sue and Tony A showed how it should be done and won 21 – 12. They must have a crown green in their loft to practice on. Captain Dawn joined this year by a new Club member, Frances, soon had us back on course on won at a canter 21 – 9. Final game Edith and Rick. You would put your house on them to win, however the weather or something they ate put the mockers on them and they lost 13 – 21. Final score Chatsworth 63, Parwich 62. Not a bad result in the scheme of things. Hopefully things can only get better as they say.
Next Match – Home – Bradwell – 17 March – 6.00pm.
Thursday Friendly League.
Home – Baslow – 12 April – 1.45pm
This league you may remember has 3 doubles games up to 21, and 6 singles games up to 15. I hope I am not tempting fate by saying the doubles pairs did us proud. Freezing cold soaking wet, boy did they play well. Dennis E and Audrey B led the way winning 21 – 8. This matched the unlucky Sue A and Liz H who played Baslow’s best pair, losing 8 -21. Clara E and Harry B put matters right by storming in 21 – 17. Parwich 50, Baslow 46.
We managed to win 4 of the 6 singles with Keith B winning 15 – 0. Other notable results were Tony A carrying on his Tuesday form winning 15 – 2. Edith sorted herself out from Tuesday and won 15 – 5. Our new member Frances, a really good acquisition on the transfer market romped home 15 – 6. Parwich 76, Baslow 43. Overall score Parwich 126, Baslow 92. What a start.
Next Match – Away – Bradwell – 19 April – 1.45pm.
We have three new members this year. Frances who has played before and the brown paper envelope handed over before the season started was worth every penny. Joy and Stuart have joined us to learn the game and of course to enjoy the good atmosphere you get on a bowls green. You too dear reader can also get this by being members. All you need is a pair of flat soled shoes, it is as easy as that!

An Inspirational Talk and Slideshow about
Cascades Gardens
From Jungle to Paradise
Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s talk at the village hall. Alan Clements’ inspiring story took the audience on a journey from meeting the Dala Lama in the mid-1990s, to purchasing Cascades House in Bonsall and creating a truly magical garden, based on the concepts of Zen meditation, mindfulness, and achieving inner peace and happiness. The Horticultural Society also enjoyed sharing plants and seeds following the talk with fellow members and guests exchanging garden goodies as well as purchasing plants from Alan’s nursery at Casades Garden.
Thank you Alan Clements for his time and dedication to horticulture.

Artists to showcase Derbyshire in open art competition
Artists are urged to get creative about Derbyshire’s life, landscapes and people in the annual Derbyshire Open Art Exhibition.
DCC’s competition is fast approaching its 36th year and is open to artists of all ages, professional and amateur. The judges ask that entrants use Derbyshire to inspire their submissions.
Artists should use their entries to show what does this county means to them. The work could be a Derbyshire landscape, a town or streetscape, local people, still life or representations of local stories. Artists can use most media, including oils, acrylics, watercolours, drawing, print, collage, manipulated digital imagery or three-dimensional work. Continue Reading »
