Hello….I am from Saskatchewan, Canada. My Grandfather George Taylor Prince was born in Parwich and came to Canada in 1903. He left behind his parents,Thomas and Martha Prince and siblings, Sarah Jane, Annie, Martha, Louisa and half siblings, Fanny Hadfield, Clifford and William Hadfield.
Annie Prince married Eli Higgenbbottom and had seven children: Horace, Fred, Albert, Annie, Jessie, Harold and Hubert. Would anyone have information on surviving relatives of Annie and Eli Higgenbottom’s children. Any information or suggestions on how to locate would be greatly appreciated. (I have come to a dead end on Ancestry.com)
I thank you in advance for any help….Sorry, I meant to include the information that my Grandfather George Taylor Prince and his family are from the Parwich area.
Charlaine Prince

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
As the Christmas rush now subsides, we are seeing prices easy back a little although the big issue now is crude continues to rise, reaching $68 dollars a barrel this week, the highest since December 2014.
Please also note, due to a change in the legislation on credit cards, from the 13th January suppliers will no longer able to pass on the credit card fees they are charged by the card companies. Many are therefore advising they can only accept debit card payments.
We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:
Rate: £0.4800 per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

We have received the following from DDDC:
Free Christmas tree recycling in the Dales
From 8 January Derbyshire Dales District Council will be helping local people recycle their real Christmas trees.
All residents have to do is place the tree at the edge of their property on their usual green/recycling day collection before 2 February and the tree will be composted along with other garden materials.
Any tree over 5ft in length must be broken or sawn down to a manageable size, with decorations and plant pots removed. Alternatively, trees can be taken to the nearest household waste recycling centre.
Plain Christmas cards and wrapping paper can be included in residents’ kerbside cardboard and paper recycling to be collected by the District Council’s contractor Serco. Foil-backed and glittery cards and paper should not be included, but placed in general household waste grey bins or black sacks.
Excess recycling can be placed at the side of recycling containers, but residents should make sure it is easily identifiable and suitably contained in a transparent container such as a stacker box rather than a black bag.
Any excess card, paper and magazines must be separated from other excess recycling such as glass, plastics, cans, beverage cartons, aerosols and foil trays.
Cardboard should be flattened after removing all staples, packaging tape and polystyrene and bubble wrap. Any pieces that will not fit in a recycling container can be flattened and placed next to the container for collection – large cardboard boxes should be flattened and broken down into smaller pieces no wider than 0.5m to fit the recycling compartment of the coll

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
The continued cold spell and high demand for heating oil is keeping suppliers on their toes. Please do not allow your tank to get too low before you order. You may wish to visually inspect your tank rather than rely on your meter as we had a number of members run out as they had not ordered due to incorrect meter readings!
Please can you ensure you have allowed plenty of time for your delivery. Delivery this time of year is subject to weather conditions and supply. If you are about to run out in the next two or three weeks you may wish to make an express order with a local supplier to ensure your tank does not run dry. If you are not sure who to use please do drop me a note.
Due to a change in the legislation on credit cards from the 13th January, many suppliers will no longer accept credit cards as they are no longer able to pass on the credit card fees they are charged. Many are therefore advising from next weekend they will only accept debit card payments.
We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:
Rate: £0.4950 per litre excluding vat [5% for Domestic use])

We have received the following information on bird flu form the Derbyshire Association of Local Councils via our Parish Council.
Last winter the UK experienced several outbreaks of avian influenza – better known as bird flu – and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is asking for help to share information in local communities. This highly contagious disease affects birds including chickens, ducks and geese, and can be fatal to them, devastating farmers’ livelihoods. It is just as much of a risk to those with a few chickens in a back garden as to commercial farmers and anyone who keeps chickens, ducks or geese. Defra is asking local councils to share their advice on bird flu in their respective communities, for example on noticeboards using their poster, through social media or in newsletters.
Please help spread the word

Judging by how many dogs you see, it is clear Parwich is a dog friendly village and with so many younger pups joining the population, this new class is sure to appeal to dogs of all ages.Starting Thursday 11th January at 7pm in the Memorial Hall, weekly classes will be run by Dena and Jeff Skellern (Home from Home, Hulland Village) who are already well known to several residents and their four legged friends.

There are two brown hens up just past the post box at 3.10pm this afternoon (Friday). I told them they’ve probably missed the last post for sending Christmas parcels but they wouldn’t hear it. You might want to count your chickens if you live that end of the village. I was out with my hounds otherwise I would have knocked on doors to see if they belonged to people I know who have hens around there.

Mavis Dale lost her husband Frank just over a year ago and, having been married for 61 years, Mavis knew she had to find something to do to help fill the gap. Spurred on by a request from her teacher granddaughter Becky, Mavis rose to the challenge of writing a story about an animal and a spaceship! An unusual combination but one requested by Becky’s class. Mavis didn’t stop there. Inspired by village life and her family, Mavis created several short stories suitable for children. Advised by her neighbour Ian Johnston to contact the Peak Advertiser, Mavis became an author in print.
Mavis considers herself to be very much a Parwich person. Born in Brassington as Mavis Swindell, the family moved to Lenscliffe when Mavis was 3 years old. Mavis attended Parwich school and then passed her 11+ to attend the grammar school in Ashbourne. Until a bus was provided Mavis and others had to walk to Alsop Station to catch the train to Ashbourne to get to school, a mode of transport which Mavis enjoyed.
As a young woman Mavis worked in the offices at Ballidon which is where she met husband- to- be lorry driver Frank Dale. Mavis took the initiative, casually suggesting that Frank might like to come to Parwich Wakes. Frank turned up and that was the start of a courtship which culminated in marriage at Parwich Church in 1954. They started married life in Frank’s home county of Staffordshire before moving to South Wingfield and then fulfilled Mavis’s desire by returning to Parwich, the place she considered to be home, when they moved to Springfields in 1967 with their two sons Alan and Stephen.
Despite having a family to look after, and later grandchildren to spend time with, Mavis was kept busy with doing the paperwork for the haulage business. She is still involved in this side of the business, working alongside her daughter- in- law Caren.
Mavis likes to keep busy and we may well have the pleasure of reading more of her tales in the future.
Her booklet of delightful short stories can be bought from Mavis at £4.50, 50p of which will go to Children in Need. Copies are also available at Nethergreen Farm.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the Carols. White Christmas was a definite highlight but not sure we are quite ready for X factor!
The Carnival and Recreation Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the year and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. We would also like to thank Tarmac for their very generous donation of the Christmas tree and lights and Rob Clarke for the yummy mince pies.

If you’re coming to the Crib Service please bring a kitchen timer and/or a mobile phone, or both – the more the merrier! Your phone doesn’t need to have any signal. This is a service suitable for all the family.
If there’s a pregnant lady around who’d be happy to be interviewed about her experience of being pregnant so far, that would be good too.
Why? You’ll have to come to the Crib Service to find out! 3pm Christmas Eve, St Peter’s Church.
