Your say on street lighting

So far there seems to be strong support for some reduction in street lighting (89%), with the largest group in favour of making a decision on a light by light basis. Up to this morning, Friday 15th March, 36 people have responded to our general poll:

  • Decide on a light by light basis – 50%
  • Turn all lights off for part of the night – 28%
  • Turn street lights off altogether – 11%
  • Keep all lights on all night – 11%

In relation to the polls for individual lights, so far, things are less clear cut: some indicate agreement with the County Counci’s specific suggestion, others indicate disagreement with the proposals, though for many there is a split vote giving no clear consensus. Continue Reading »

Hartington Trail

POSTPONED DUE TO SNOW – TO BE REARRANGED

Hartington’s town crier will summon people to the village pump on Saturday March 30 at 2pm to announce the launch of a new Village Trail.

Peak District National Park Authority chair Tony Favell and Hartington Parish Council will unveil new information panels, while leaflets, local history displays, tea and cakes and a Village Trail prize draw will be available from 12noon to 4.30pm in the Village Hall.

Villagers themselves got together to help create the new Village Trail that leads visitors back in time and encourages them to support local businesses for the future. The trail leaflet features a self-guided map, illustrations by local schoolchildren, and 11 points of interest put together by community groups, exploring the village’s rich heritage from the 1200s to the present day.Aimed at families, adults can enjoy the fact-packed potted histories, and children, led by “Detective Duck,” can test themselves on a treasure-trail of questions. Paul B’s Weedkiller Weekly #21

Hello possums.

After the phenomenal success of Tom Chambers, we have another rising star in our midst. A mover and shaker, who makes Michael Jackson look like Pinocchio, our very own David S. A jump‘Britain’s Got Talent’ scout spotted David strutting his stuff to ‘Mr’s Miggin’s Pie Shop’ at the Legion on Saturday night. Apparently David’s vertical leaps were worthy of the African ‘Whatootsie’ (Watusi) tribe, who execute amazing leaps in their fertility dances in an effort to impress prospective brides. In his usual modest manner David was unfazed by the prospect of stardom, but did manage to sign a few autographs before his wife, Sharon, carted him off home in a wheelbarrow.

Happy Mother’s Day

Our Weatherman in the Village says:

Got the forecast bang on last week – with the weather breaking on Wednesday as forecast. Tuesday was a glorious day with beautiful spring sunshine and the temperature in Parwich hit a balmy 13.4C, but it was still a cold night with hard frosts Monday and Tuesday.

Winter is now firmly re-established for a few days with no immediate let up to the present conditions. Cold temperatures, snow showers and a bitter wind look like punctuating the week to come.

Lent Lunches

20130307-224320.jpg

The poll in our previous post is so far indicating a majority support some form of part night lighting in Parwich. This further post contains individual polls for each street light in the Village.

You can have your say on which street lights are turned off for part of the night and which remain on by contacting:

  • Derbyshire County Council directly by Tuesday 2nd April 2013 on their Parwich consultation page  or by post to Street Lights, Derbyshire County Council, County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG
  • Parwich Parish Council prior to their next meeting on Wednesday 20th March 2013, by speaking to a councillor, by emailing the Clerk on sandra.hampson@hotmail.co.uk, or by attending the open section of their meeting.

or here at

  • PARWICH.ORG by completing the polls below and adding comments. We will then forward poll results and any comments to the County Council prior to the close of the Parwich consultation on the 2nd April.

The County Council’s rationale in deciding their proposals can be seen on their website, but they will not understand as well as us how we might be effected, so please fill in at least the polls for the lights outside your house.

There should be a separate poll below for each Parwich street light (based on plan circulated by Derbyshire County Council): Continue Reading »

Local Policing Priorities

The Derbyshire Alert community messaging service gives you the opportunity to contribute to the setting of priorities in your neighbourhood.
As you may be aware, each of our Safer Neighbourhood policing teams holds a meeting every three months to set priorities, offering the public the opportunity to select what their local police officers and other agencies target.
The aim of our e-forum is to make it easier for you to have a say on priorities.

Simply email alert@neighbourhoodalert.co.uk  and tell us what you would like your team to target. Continue Reading »

Although the Council have already consulted on the general issue, we felt our readers might like to have a say on whether ‘part night lighing’ in general is a good idea:

Parwich households should have received a letter today telling them that Derbyshire County Council is now consulting on turning some Parwich street lights off for part of the night. (Click here for the consultation timetables for Derbyshire communities.) Continue Reading »

Paul B’s Weedkiller Weekly #20

Hello Possums,

PopeWell that’s February done and dusted. The Catholic church was rocked by the recent announcement that his holiness Pope Benedict XVI is to take early retirement. It is widely rumoured however that Tony Blair may be throwing his mitre in the ring for the top job thus adding the Vatican to his growing property portfolio.

The lucrative world of after dinner speaking is abuzz with the prospect of Lord Prescott joining the circuit. He has optimistically hired an agent to procure some mouth watering engagements for him in the near future. ‘Prezza’ rose steadily through the ranks, defying working class prejudices, from ship’s steward to become Tony Blair’s right hand man, eventually joining the House of Lords, an institution he had long championed. His syntax and eloquent jousting at the dispatch box is legendary among the Labour Party. A veritable feast of anecdotal entertainment awaits, a postprandial extravaganza not to be missed. Our Weatherman in the Village says:

High pressure continues to dominate giving us much needed dry and calm conditions with only 0.05 inches of rain last Monday.

The coming days look like continuing the theme, but a break in that looks likely from mid-week with a return to wet and windy on the cards.
