Parish Council Agenda – 18.4.12

JF-S was up early this morning capturing this shot for Parwich.org, taken near Monsdale Lane.

St George’s Day next Sunday

Success on Friday 13th

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

So we are off and bowling, well throwing a circular thing at a smaller white thing. Thankfully as you who live here will know the snow did not last long and we have been able to play a match or two with varying success this week.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Home – 10 April – Matlock Park B.

Matches in this league normally start at 6.30pm, but in early season you try to get going sooner rather than late. Just as well. I think also the opposition had better miner’s hats than we did because by the time the match ended it was very dark.

Anyway we only won one of the four games, although in the games we lost we did manage to accumulate good scores. Now just as a reminder you have to play four doubles games first up to 21 wins the game. The maximum points you can score therefore is 84. Having lost three out of four the result was 81 to Matlock and 73 Parwich, which as things go is not too bad a losing score if you understand what I mean.

Next match – Away – Chatsworth 17 April.

Thursday League.

Because of the cancellation of the first match we played two matches this week.

Again just as a reminder the format of the match is three doubles up to 21 and six singles up to 15. Maximum score therefore 153.

Away – 12 April – Chatsworth.

We unfortunately did not manage to win any doubles games, indeed we managed to lose them all quite nicely. However in the singles we won three out of the six. The final scores were Chatsworth 133, Parwich 109.

Home – Cancelled match – Wirksworth – Friday 13 April.

Friday the 13th enjoy! Not only did we win all the doubles games, (63 to 36) we also won all six singles as well. I cannot recall us ever managing to do this before, although I am sure that some members of the Club can put me right. Anyway the final result was Parwich 144, Wirksworth 103.

Next match – Home Matlock Park ‘A’ – 19 April.

Don’t forget we will be having a few ‘ends’ on Monday night at about 6.30. Come and have a try. Nobody new has turned up so far, it’s very lonely on our own!

IF you would like a red rose buttonhole for the St George’s Day Parade on Sunday 22 April, please place your order by 6pm on Friday 20th.

Grand National Afternoon

Black Bin is Saturday, not Friday

If you have put your black bin, household waste, out this evening, bring it back in. Collection is on Saturday this week, because of the Bank Holiday on Easter Monday. The bin that should be out tonight is your green bin. Check out the blog to keep up to date.

Greedy

I’m not sure whether “greedy” refers to the goldfinches which are gorging themselves on a full container of niger seeds or that JF-S seems to have Parwich’s full quota of these gorgeous birds.

Easter Bunny Spotted In Parwich?

This particular bunny was sighted and snapped by our roving reporter. Could it be the Easter Bunny? We may be mistaken, but it looks like this little fella is hiding some eggs.

Great News, Bob is Home

2 ½ weeks ago Bob went missing and an appeal was made on the blog by Debbie.

Today Wyatt M was on a bike ride with his dad and they found Bob in a barn meowing like crazy. It is thanks to the Blog that so many people were looking for him. It is just fantastic to have Bob back home again.  Thank you all, Debbie.

Film Night next Friday

Based on the book, My Week with Marilynthis hugely entertaining film tells of how a young but confident assistant director, Colin Clark, met Marilyn Monroe while working on Laurence Olivier’s “The Prince and the Showgirl.” When Marilyn experienced emotional difficulties during shooting, the 23-year-old came to her aid and romance developed.  But one week of honesty and fun was not enough to save the doomed star from self-destruction. Many years later he wrote  Starring Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Kenneth Branagh, Dame Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper and Derek Jacobi.

Check out the reviews 1&2.

Does anyone know when the grey bin refuse will be collected? It doesn’t look as though it is going to be emptied today.

Bowling Season Underway

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

First week of the new bowls season, at least we did not lose. We did not win either, the match was cancelled! Because of the vagaries of our British weather we had a dusting of the white stuff on the green.

Matlock Tuesday League.

Home – 10 April – Matlock Park B.

We have not played this Club in the Tuesday League; they have a team in the higher division. For the past few years this higher team has won the League. Don’t know what to expect from the lower division team, but I have no doubt they will be good. Any way all will be revealed next Tuesday at 6.30 ish at Parsons Croft.

Thursday League.

Away – 12 April – Chatsworth – 1.45pm

As I probably said last year this is a lovely venue. This team got relegated from the higher division last year so I think they will be tough to beat. We will see.

Don’t forget we will be having a few ‘ends’ on Monday night at about 6.30. Come and have a try.

The legion has extended its selection of house wine as follows:

Bullfinch

Bullfinch or Pyrrhula pyrrhula is “widespread” across the country but not often seen unless you are in JF-S’s garden. Click to enlarge.

Well camouflagued

This little owl is well camouflaged, but nothing escapes the lens of JF-S.
