Following the collection we had in Parwich for Red Cross Week, I just wanted to pass on a huge thank you from our Community Fundraiser, Alex Gadsby. This is what Alex had to say:

“The amounts raised in Red Cross Week via the shops have just come out. Donations for the Matlock store helped to raise a massive £270! This is amazing and I’m 100% certain it wouldn’t have been nearly as much without your support.”

Thanks very much for everyone who contributed to this worthwhile cause; I’m hoping to make it an annual event!

If anyone in the village wants to do any other type of fund raising event for the British Red Cross, I know Alex would love to hear from you.

Waitrose is fundraising for Parwich First Responders this month

The Ashbourne branch of Waitrose has chosen Parwich First Responders as their charity for July.

If you get the chance to shop there, please support your group by putting the green token in our slot!

Wakes Friday: EVENT CANCELLED

6pm – Games Night on Parson’s Croft

An evening of games and activities.  Depending on the numbers attending, these will include golf, bowls, rounders and six a side soccer.

The evening is planned mainly for adults, expect for bowls, which is for all ages.

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary and Mary from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman to raze the Muppet Theatre and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theatre, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

Parwich Lunch – Monday

If you would like lunch on Monday, 12.45pm  at the Memorial Hall, please ring Val K (458)  by Friday evening.    The menu this month is Ham Salad followed by Jam Roly Poly and Custard.  As long as Val knows in advance she can cater for vegetarians and various diets.  She can even accommodate thoses who don’t like what is on the menu for that month, but only with notice.

Allie is headed off to Uni this year, and there are lots of field/art trips – if we provide the wheelchair, they’ll provide the pushing power!

Stepping Stones Pre-School – Update

We are writing to you all from Stepping Stones Pre–School, Parwich to let you know following an Open meeting on Monday 25 June 2012 the sad decision was taken to close Stepping Stones Pre–School, Parwich from Friday 20 July 2012.

We have placed adverts, asked for donations and held various Open Meetings to try and come up with ideas to keep the Pre–School going but this has been unsuccessful. The main factor is that we do not have enough children to keep us going resulting in our outgoings being far greater than our income.

We would like to thank the people and parents that came to the Open Meetings to try and help us, the members of the local community that have offered help and the blog team for posting all our information on the blog.

Webbed feet give Parwich bowlers competitive edge

The weather again played quite a part in this week’s matches. Thankfully we had our webbed feet on again.

Matlock Tuesday League.
Away – 26 June – Wirksworth.

The matches with Wirksworth are proving odd. This week we were away, but managed to win on their green. Considering it is one of the biggest greens in the league, no mean feat. To cap it all, we won by a greater margin away than we did last week at home!

We shared the games two each, but – as the saying goes – points mean prizes, and we got more, coming out winners by 70 to 56. As I said last week, although we won our points ‘for’ were low, and indeed we did drop a place in the league. With this again relatively low score, we may fall again. Now down to 7th.

Next match – Away – Matlock Park -3 July 6.30pm.

Thursday League.
Home – Chatsworth – 28 June.

We had to wait for the water on the green to dissipate before we could play; it was like a swimming pool. When we did get started, we really played well. This fixture at Chatsworth at the start of the season was not a good result for us. However, everybody played so well in the this match that we won all three doubles games, coming out on top 63 to 43.

In the six singles we won four out of six, giving us a score of 75 to 36. The overall match total was 138 to Parwich, 79 to Chatsworth, more than making up for the early season defeat.

Next match – Away – Matlock Park – 5 July – 1.45pm.

No Sunday match again this week, as it’s Wakes Week. Make sure you come and see us on Friday night to have a go, as part of the week’s celebrations. Have a good week.

Parwich Open Gardens 2012: photo gallery

Eleven Parwich households opened their gardens to visitors today, and thankfully the rain was kept at bay all the way through the afternoon – a rare stroke of luck, indeed!

This week’s Ashbourne News Telegraph – copies of which are still available – carried a full page colour preview of the event, with photos taken from previous years, and perhaps this helped to encourage what felt like a healthy turn-out of visitors.

This year’s delayed summer also meant that we were able to see these gardens at a somewhat earlier stage of development, with poppies, lupins, peonies and aquilegeas all providing unexpected splashes of colour.

Thanks are due to the Parwich & District Horticultural Society for organising the event, which also included cream teas and a plant stall at the Memorial Hall, as well as the childrens’ show of paintings and plants.

A Special Methodist Service – 2.30pm

On Sunday, our service will be led by the Chair of the Nottingham and Derby distrist – Rev Loraine Mellor. The Chair is the equivalent of a bishop in the C of E, so it is a great honour for us to have her.

Everyone is welcome to join us at 2.30pm.

Stepping Stones Open Meeting

The next Open Meeting regarding Stepping Stones Pre – School will be held on Monday 25 June 2012, 7.30pm until 8.30pm at The Sycamore Pub, Parwich with a Committee Meeting to follow.

Please find a copy of the minutes of the last meeting on parwich.org.   The items to be discussed at the Open Meeting are hours and days to run sessions in September 2012, Advertising, and the Float and stall for the carnival.

Open Gardens Tomorrow

Don’t forget those Oddfellows buttonholes…

Many of you have already ordered your red rose buttonhole for the parade on Carnival Day, Saturday 30th June.

If anyone would like to order who has not yet done so, could you please let Delia know by lunchtime on Friday 29th June.

Buttonholes are priced at £3.50 and will be available for collection outside the Sycamore Inn on the morning.
