Does anyone know what is happening at the Legion on New Year’s Eve? Is it Chris Hoolie as reported on the Blog or a Twenties night as advertised on the notice board?

Friday 13th January – 7.45pm
Taken from the book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, this is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. In the much-anticipated epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.
“Sensational, satisfying, surreal … an explosive final chapter puts the magic back into the Harry Potter franchise” The Guardian. Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Helen Bonham-Carter, etc, etc! This film broke all box-office records.

This is the 4th year some of us have got together to do a Christmas morning walk. Everyone brought a contribution for the “picnic”, there were plenty of nibbles of lots and lots of mulled wine.
Thanks to JF-S for the photos

I took this photo at 8.30 this morning, a glorious sight to wake up to on Christmas morning; the sunlight bouncing off the trees on Parwich hill.

Andy explained that the Bible tells us that Jesus came into this world as a light into the darkness.
The questions is… What type of light?
In these photos, Andy is attempting to answer this question using a home made flame thrower!

Graham Johnson has received an email from Paul Mannion, who was the 2010 winner of the Parwich Hill Race. Paul says:
I was just wondering if you could help me with something, or at least point me in the right direction?
I was at a race over at the Roaches today and was talking to a guy called Matt Jones from Ripley who I know from races, and we were catching up etc.
He won The Parwich Hill Race this year (2011) and said he didn’t get the trophy, as it had gone missing again !!
Now, I gave back the trophy this year, so was shocked to hear it went missing in the first place…
It would be great if we could reunite him with the missing trophy.
Could you put me in touch with the relevant people or ask around I would be very grateful.
If you have any information, please contact Graham directly (344), or mail the blog team at parwich.hotmail.co.uk.

Rob Francis writes:
You seek them here, you seek them there. For 25 years, they have mysteriously appeared then disappeared at Christmas.
This is a unique Parwich tradition inherited from Biggin-by-Hartington through Ambrose Wilton and Jack Cundy, who as boys traipsed along the railway, returning via The Newhaven Inn – back in 1936.
Click here to view photographs from the last 25 years (or click here for a full-screen slideshow).
This includes the guizers’ famous meeting with Paris Hilton (look at the smile on her face) and the first photograph that appeared in The Ashbourne Telegraph in 1985.
The guizers in all their shape-shifting forms wish you a Happy Christmas.

As the days have become shorter and the weather more inclement, Parwich musicians have busied themselves writing and recording music. We have permission to publish work from both The A52s and Hazel B.
Hazel B
Hazel Beddows has been writing songs since she was 13. She is currently 15 and has been a regular at local open mic sessions. The highlight of 2011 was playing on the open mic stage at the Y Not Festival…including a request to do an encore. Hazel has just completed a recording session at Meadow Farm Recording Studio – lyrics, music, voice and guitar are all by Hazel B.
Parwich.org are proud to present two of her songs. Remember where you heard them first!

The A52s
The A52s are the hardest working acoustic folk-rock band in Parwich……when they’re not discussing music trivia in the Sycamore over a pint of Double Hop whilst munching crispinoes. Check them out at www.thea52s.co.uk.
Members of The A52s playing on these recordings are: Lewis ‘Squeezebox’ Noble, Chris ‘Mando Man’ Radlett, Mike ‘Champagne’ Hughes, Chad ‘Qwibble’ Bean, Jim ‘Jet Pack’ Croft & Rob ’10 Piece’ Campbell. The sound was engineered by Stan ‘Boggie’ Dadley-Webb.

Return to the magic and wonder of C.S. Lewis’ beloved world The Chronicles of Narnia — via the fantastic Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader. Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace, their royal friend King Caspian and a warrior mouse named Reepicheep, find themselves swallowed into a painting and onto the Dawn Treader. Their mission — on which rests the fate of Narnia itself — takes the courageous voyagers to mysterious islands and a river that turns to gold, to fateful confrontations with magical creatures and sinister enemies and to a reunion with their friend and protector, the “Great Lion” Aslan.

To help us through these difficult economic times, we have been wondering if we might be able to use the collective buying power of PARWICH.ORG to negotiate discounts on a range of products.
Starting the ball rolling in what we hope is a suitably festive fashion, we have negotiated a 20% discount for a special Christmas mixed case of fine wines from Averys Wine Merchants.
This case, which usually sells at £125, has been discounted to £99.50. Designed as a sampler of the best value wines currently in the Averys range, it also contains some extra special bottles for Christmas.
Please click here for detailed tasting notes of all twelve wines in the mixed case, in printable PDF format.
To take advantage of this offer, simply contact James Cole at Averys, and quote “Parwich”.
James can be contacted by phone on direct line (01275 812 210) or by email at JamesCole@averys.com.
Please click here to read what James has said about this offer.
For guaranteed delivery before Christmas, please place your orders by this Friday (December 16th). Note that you will still be able to place orders after this date, at the discounted rate.
Finally – if any of our readers know of other organisations who might be willing to offer discounts via PARWICH.ORG, please let us know!
