The wandering sheep were back in Creamery Lane this morning, but in larger numbers. Having headed down the Smiths’ drive they have been put in the field below Dodd’s Dill. Can the owner please get in touch with either the Smiths tel. 278 or with me next door, Peter T tel. 287.
They have a pale blue marking on the rump and some also have an orange line on the upper back.

Peak District National Park to share in £2 million pilot scheme to restore historic farm buildings
The Peak District National Park is taking part in a £2 million pilot scheme to help farmers and land managers to restore historic farm buildings.
It is one of five National Parks to pilot the Historic Building Restoration Grant, which aims to save some iconic English farm buildings from falling out of use. The pilot is a partnership between Historic England, Natural England and the Peak District, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Dartmoor and Northumberland National Parks.
Peak District National Park advisors will be working with farmers and land managers to determine which buildings are most suitable to receive grants offering 80 per cent towards the cost of restoration. This could include roof repair, weatherproofing or other restoration works, allowing a building to be used again for farming purposes.
Sarah Fowler, chief executive of the Peak District National Park, said: “We are delighted that the significance of our traditional buildings is recognised in this scheme. Particularly in upland areas, these historic buildings are vulnerable to falling out of use. We look forward to working with farmers and land managers to help them restore buildings that contribute so much to the landscape character of the National Park.We hope that this pilot scheme will be a success and will build a case for future funding to conserve more of these important buildings.”
Lord Gardiner, Defra minister for National Parks, said: “The British countryside, including those historic farm buildings that dot some of our most iconic landscapes, is a truly precious natural asset. I am delighted that we are able to open this new set of grants supporting the restoration of traditional farm buildings.”
Sir Laurie Magnus, chairman of Historic England, added: “Historic England warmly welcomes this scheme and its endorsement of the value and importance of traditional farm buildings. The partnership approach being piloted by Historic England, Natural England and upland National Parks will be of immense value in helping owners to maintain and conserve these buildings and to retain their significance for future generations.”

Beware!
When driving back into the village, I noticed that the traffic cone in the pothole between the Wigley’s and the Pikehall turning, has been smashed into pieces.
I wonder whether anyone has a spare cone to replace the broken one until this big pothole has been fixed. I will also report it (again) to DCC.

Improvements to the ‘Ashbourne Triangle’ set to start
DCC will begin work to make safety improvements at an Ashbourne town centre traffic hotspot next month.
To minimise disruption, improvements to the ‘Ashbourne Triangle’ pedestrian refuge will be carried out in two phases to keep traffic flowing in one direction at a time. The work is expected to take two weeks.
Starting on Monday 9 April the northbound carriageway of the A515 towards Buxton will be closed so the market place side of the triangle can be narrowed.
The following week, starting Monday 16 April, the opposite carriageway heading into Ashbourne will be shut, so the other side of the triangle can also be slimmed down.
This is to give traffic using the one way system on both sides of the A515 at the junction of St John’s Street and Buxton Road more room to negotiate the narrow road and tight corners by providing more turning space.
The pedestrian crossing on Buxton Road, outside the town hall, will also be upgraded while the road closures are in place.
Signposted diversions will be in place while the work is carried out. For the week starting 9 April the diversion for northbound traffic will be along St John Street, Hall Lane, King Street and Buxton Road. Southbound traffic will flow as usual.
The following week’s diversion for southbound vehicles will be Buxton Road, King Street and Hall Lane. Northbound traffic will flow as usual.
Evening road closures will then be in place from 6.30pm to midnight between Monday 23 to Friday 27 April so that both sides of the carriageway can be resurfaced and white lines reinstated.
Plans for a new Ashbourne by-pass are also on the table. Last year the county council’s cabinet gave the green light for investigation work to be carried out into the possibility of a by-pass. Options for long-term solutions to the town’s traffic problems, other than a by-pass will also be considered. Evidence into the feasibility of a by-pass is now being collected. This will then be used to put together a business case to identify potential solutions to the town’s congestion problems.

Rita and Tony have had some sheep in their garden (just off Creamery Lane) this morning. They are young sheep, marked with a blue line. Presumably the same ones that escaped a few days go? Does anyone know who they belong to?

Tea & Cakes are being served in the churchyard at Alsop en le Dale, 11am – 4pm on Easter Monday. Please come along and support this event, in aid of Alsop Church. Stunning views, delicious cakes, not to be missed. Make a walk of it with great refreshments to look forward to.

Update for Bradbourne & Parwich Heating Oil Club
Demand on suppliers remains high with many still reporting full order books for the next few weeks.
If you are low on oil and may run out please do not add your order as this group order is not be suitable. We are not able to organise quick deliveries. Please also allow for the Easter break when ordering as many orders will be delivered after Easter.
Please note the delivery time. Delivery times are subject to weather and supply conditions. Please do order early and allow plenty of time for delivery to avoid any problems and please check you tank levels, we are all using a lot more fuel than normal. It would be worth a visual inspection as we have had many reports of meters giving false levels over the last few weeks.
If you like the rate, please do spread the word. By grouping our orders, we can also substantially reduce harmful diesel emissions, CO2 and damage and danger to our roads and villages.
We have secured a rate and our clubs group oil order terms for this weekend are as follows:

Derbyshire Connect on track with station link
A flexible bus service is extending its coverage area to allow passengers to make onward journeys by train.
DCC fund the Ashbourne Derbyshire Connect bus service which has been operating in the wider Ashbourne and Wirksworth areas for just over a year.
From Tuesday 3 April it will be extended to offer trips to Cromford and Matlock Bath − including the railways stations in both locations.
Connect services need to be booked at least two hours in advance of travel but they are more flexible than conventional bus services that have designated destinations and scheduled travel times. There is no fixed timetable, so pick up times, routes and destinations can be planned to suit the needs of where passengers have stated they want to travel to and from on booking.
Councillor Simon Spencer, our Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said: “We launched this service as a pilot last February to test out the kind of journeys passengers wanted to make. After feedback from our customers we have decided to review and extend the area where the bus runs and it will now cover the railway stations. The benefit of the bus running further afield means that passengers will now be able to connect with the train, as well as other conventional bus services, allowing for onward travel to other nearby towns and cities.”
Ashbourne Derbyshire Connect is for any kind of passenger, of any age and for any type of journey. It also provides group travel. The bus is fully accessible and able to carry passengers in wheelchairs. Plus it has room for buggies and bikes.
The service runs 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 7pm Saturdays. There are no Sunday or bank holiday services.
Journeys are bookable, by telephone, between seven days and up to two hours in advance of travel, by calling 01335 342951, by email, 24 hours in advance, at: bookings@derbyshireconnect.org.uk or by texting details of journeys to be made to 07946 365256.

There is a deep pothole (135mm) beyond Hawkslow farm on the road to the A515. It damaged my tyre- because of the water it is hidden.

The Parish Council has arranged with the Probation Service for a Community Payback team to clear the ground on the Parish Council’s land at Pump Hill. They will be removing brambles and small self seeded trees and shrubs. No work is being done on trees.
The work will be carried out this weekend, 24th and 25th of March. There will be a skip provided by Derbyshire County Council parked in the road from Friday to Monday to collect what is removed.
This work is being carried out at no cost to the Parish Council.
The work is not linked to any future plans for Pump Hill. It is just being seen as an opportunity to improve its appearance. None the less any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

Mon1903 0636am.Unfortunately our school site is unsafe for staff and students today. The snow and ice combined with freezing temperatures has left thick ice which our site team are working hard to clear. Student and staff safety is always our priority and regrettably we have had to make the decision to close today (19032018)in order to make the site safe.

The Police are warning motorists to take care on the roads and not to travel on any higher routes. Locally, with a number of crashes yesterday and more snow overnight, the A515 between Newhaven and Buxton is closed this morning.
Also take care on Alsop Lane as the increased traffic due to the temporary closure of the B5056 has churned up the verges with cars getting stuck in the mud when attempting to pass other vehicles. This will be compounded by the muddy areas being hidden by the snow.
