Film Night next week

Trailer: Continue Reading »

Last night the ladies of Parwich netball club said a fond farewell to Wendy Birds who has played for the team for almost 40 years. Wendy has played with the likes of Rosie Dunn, Janice Wigley, Pauline Laycock, Karen Wigley, Olivia and Edwina Flower, Deb Ryde, Paula Lynam and the current set of beauties. Wendy has been a versatile and elegant player who has proudly worn the black pleated games skirt with the RBL emblem on it and now the lycra skorts and tight fitting bibs currently sported by the team.
Of the current team some were taken under Wendys wing when they made their first appearance aged just 11 yrs old. Now an age limit of 16 applies to play in the leagues but Wendy has held her own on the court with all those who have had the privilege to play with her.
Last nights farewell took place at the Red Lion in either Hognaston, Hollington or Kniveton or possibly all of them. Wendy tried several times to retire over the last year but her plea to be released was ignored by Captain Flower. Finally the risk of injury and the call of long weekends with Larry have forced the us to accept that Wendy must move on although she is still able to join us on our nights out when we celebrate winning the league yet again!
If anyone is interested in knowing more about Parwich Netball team and its position in the world rankings please get in touch through the blog team. We currently have a vacancy for a good WA!
Thanks for everything Wendy and it won’t be the same without you to keep us calm and focused and remind us to watch Newsnight.

Brian Foden

The funeral for Brian Foden will take place at 1.30 pm on Thursday 16 October at St Peter’s Church, followed by a burial in the churchyard. There will then be refreshments in the Memorial Hall. Jon and Sam have requested family flowers only . Any donations will go to the Derbyshire Air Ambulance which came to Brian’s aid a few years ago and which he recognised as a vital resource for the village.

Our sympathies are with Jon and Sam and other members of Brian’s family. Brian made a huge contribution to the village over the years and he will be very much missed by all.

It looks like autumn has finally arrived, with a change in the weather pattern disrupting and probably finally banishing our glorious Indian summer! While today (Sunday) looks like being a good day, the rest of the week is looking typically autumnal with bands of rain and wind in prospect along with cooler temperatures.

Hello Possums,

Right Ladies, it’s bio-chemical warfare. Conkers have one of the strongest moth repelling aromas, and in the process of drying out emit a gas which kills off moths and their larvae. In order to be effective the conkers must be fresh, and it is recommended that new ones are placed in your drawers every few weeks or so.

Her Majesty the Queen is seeking a person with a passion for upholstery to fill the post of ‘Senior Restorer’. The successful applicant will be responsible for the 30,000 or so items of sofas and chairs scattered around the various royal properties. A comprehensive knowledge furniture, spanning 300 years, would be a distinct advantage, although it is highly unlikely that anyone could live that long. Previous applicants can get stuffed.

Lord Prezza was, in typical style, left with egg on his face after confusing ‘the bedroom tax’ for ‘the breakfast tax’. Easy to see where his thoughts lie.

A Very Well Attended Meeting

WP_20140930_003 WP_20140930_001

Tuesday’s meeting to explain how to access and use our new village static defibrillator was well supported. Around 50 people came to hear First Responder Co-ordinator Ian Beard tell us what to expect and how to deal with someone in cardiac arrest.
Ian explained what the 999 control desk would tell a caller to do; how to obtain and use the defibrillator and how to give chest compressions and rescue breaths to the patient. He stressed that any aid given is better than none. Everyone appeared to be in agreement that they now felt confident enough to use the defibrillator to assist someone in need.
The evening finished with tea and cake provided by Parwich First Responders.
For anyone who was unable to attend the meeting and who would like to know more they are very welcome to phone Martin C (529) or Sue H (334).

Dog fouling in Parwich village

A range of people have asked the Parish Council to take action in relation to the ongoing dog fouling problem in the village:

image

It has been brought to the attention of Parwich Parish Council that there has been an increase in the number of incidents of dog fouling in the village.

This is of serious concern to members of the parish council and residents but is of particular concern to the staff at the primary school as dogs have been allowed to foul the public areas used by children. The affected areas include: the pedestrian walk way down to the school from Kiln Lane; the former cricket pitch, football pitch areas and the problem is also regularly occurring on other public areas such as village greens, playground areas and the rear of the Memorial Hall.

The health of vulnerable young children is of great concern to the school staff and the parish council members. The practice of allowing dogs to foul these areas must cease.

Paul B’s Weedkiller Weekly #90

Hello Possums,

Parwich film presents ‘Carry On In The Great British Bake Off Kitchen’. Starring the delectable Barbara Windsor as Mary Cherry, David Walliams as Paul Bollywood and the Krankies as Mel and Sue. Oooh, titter, titter matron. A hilarious cornucopia of double entendres, a plethora of soggy bottoms, lashings of tongue in cheek tittilations and a good old helping of risque innuendos, stiff peaks and buns in the oven. It is awful, but you’ll like it.

David Cameron was forced to make a humbling apology to Her Majesty The Queen, after he revealed her purring response to the outcome of the Scottish independence referendum. However they are now back on amicable terms and even shared a saucer of Duchy Original organic milk together.

Podey Pizza, a specialist food company in the US, have launched their latest creation: a cannabis infused pizza topping to give the customer a high, and at the same time satiate the associated post joint munchies. A specialist pot noodle is also in the pipeline.

This glorious late summer keeps on giving. It’s hard to believe we’re nearly into October with this sun and warmth. High pressure looks like continuing into the working week, so no obvious significant rain on the horizon.

Buzzard with a broken wing

Welcome to Parwich to Lynn C and family, it is always good to have new contributors:

My son and his girlfriend were climbing at Cheedale (Wye Valley) yesterday and found a young buzzard with a broken wing at the base of the cliff. With only a blue IKEA bag to capture and carry the buzzard, they beat a hasty retreat back to McMurtry & Harding in Ashbourne. We thought people may like to see a close up shot of the bird. We are waiting to hear how the buzzard recovers.
