The schedule will be as follows:

  • 10.00 am Alsop en le Dale
  • 10.30 am Parwich

ALL ARE WELCOME! PLEASE SUPPORT THIS.

I wish I didn’t have to raise the issue of dog fouling again, but having had to clear one from the side of our drive a couple of days ago and having run the mower into another one in the tall grass in front of the ‘egg shed’ on Creamery Lane today (which has been a favourite spot in the past!), it’s time to remind ALL dog owners to clear up after their dog AND never allow them to roam around the village. It’s so annoying.

Is it time for a dog rogues’ photo gallery on the blog so we can identify the doggy culprits, (and next step if the problem persists:  name & shame the owners?!).

Although several of my S/C cottage visitors bring a dog, I have never seen their dogs being allowed to roam unaccompanied, and they always seem to clear up the mess. If ever you suspect otherwise, let me know please (440).   Thank you.

Legion Tidy Day

We have received the following from Carl:

THANK YOU!

A big thank you goes to the following who gave up their Sunday afternoon to help with the Legion “make-over” this weekend.

The benches, gate, window frames etc. all look great now they have been painted, the smoking annexe has received a well-deserved bath, the garden has been nicely planted, gutters cleaned and all the weeds removed.

The interior was also given some attention including general repairs, spring cleaning and the hanging of 2 new picture frames which have been filled with photographs of villagers past and present.

All the troops were treated to a fantastic BBQ once all the work was completed – which Emma and Rob kindly prepared.

Thanks to Bill Whitfield for the planters and hanging baskets and the plants that were donated, they look amazing. Thanks also to Judith and Charles for the loan of their tap.

The team:

Ian and Sandra, Cheryl and Bob, Phil and Rosie, Alison and Shaun, Jimmy and Karen, Emma and Rob, Lee and Danni, Rich, Pete, Ed, Lucy and Rachel.

Thanks again.

Carl

Culland Hall Open Gardens

PRIVATE ESTATE’S EXQUISITE 4 ACRE GARDENS OPEN FOR CHARITY

Specialist Plant Fair and Open Gardens

Culland Hall, Culland, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 3BW

SUNDAY 8th JUNE 2014, 11am – 4pm

Tucked away down a winding Derbyshire lane lies Culland Hall and its’ exquisite 4 acre gardens. Nurtured over the past twenty years by owner Lucy Thompson, this gem of a garden is open just one day each year in aid of local charity Mid Derbyshire Association for Mobile Physiotherapy – a charity close to Lucy’s heart.

It is pretty rare to find a garden offering quite so much – over 100 varieties of roses (look out for Konigin von Danemark), a Victorian walled kitchen garden, woodland walk, colour-themed borders inspired by Sissinghurst, amongst others, and a huge selection of rare and specialist plants. All this sits majestically, surrounded by lake and parkland, under Culland’s beady-eyed flock of Lleyn and Jacob ewes.

New visitor to the garden

This Jay is not a bird that visits the garden very often. A  quick snap taken through the kitchen window yesterday.

Hello Possums,

Weedkiller’s Weekly Modern Art Critic has it on good authority that a once in a lifetime investment opportunity in the form of Tracy Emins iconic “My Bed” is coming up for grabs. The work is actually her unmade bed, complete with stained sheets, discarded contraceptives, underwear, empty vodka bottles and pregnancy testing kit. Interested? It could be yours for a mere £1.250,000. Not too sure? Maybe you would like to sleep on it.

An NHS worker was about to enjoy a bowl of M&S super bean and lentil soup, when to his horror he discovered a blue plastic catering hygiene glove on opening the carton. An M&S spokesman told investigators that they were at a complete loss as to how the glove got to be there, but suggested that a disgruntled employee may have had a hand in it.

The corpse of an eighty year old Pueto Rican woman was posed in her favourite rocking chair, dressed in the wedding dress she wore at her second wedding, then surrounded by flowers. The Marin funeral home is renowned for some of its bizarre wakes. They are also famous for their superior embalming techniques to such an extent that a member of staff coming on duty asked her if she would like a cup of coffee.

Sunny on the Greens

PARWICH CROWN GREEN BOWLS CLUB

One very good win and one very good loss this week!

Matlock Tuesday bowls league
Away – Bradwell – 3 June

The green at Bradwell commands really great views, however we do not usually do very well here. Tonight we managed to change things. For the first time in a very long time Edith and Rick lost. We could hardly believe it. They only just lost though. Our other pairs all won and provided us with our win 79 – 68. Because of our good score we may move up a place or even two. We play the top of the league next week. Keep your fingers crossed.

  • Next match – Home – Chatsworth – 10 June – 6.30pm

Matlock Thursday Friendly League
Away – Baslow – 3 June

For once the sun shone this afternoon and to cap it all the BBC were there filming the action. Not sure when the new TV stars will appear though. Our three doubles pairs unfortunately all lost so we were behind 63 – 46. We did win four of the six singles, but the deficit we had to make up was too large and we finished down 133 – 125. Our average this year is 121 per match so even though we lost it will improve our score, albeit by only a small margin.

  • Next match – Home – Whitworth Park – 12 June – 1.45pm.

On Sunday we are playing our senior cup tournament which is always good fun. Come down to Parsons Croft and have a look in the afternoon.
