Weedkiller Weekly #46

Hello Possums,

Well, it’s been a tumultuous week here at Weedkiller Headquarters; despite all our efforts, our recently appointed food guru, the fabulous Delia Smith, has been lured back to Waitrose. sofaOur interior design team bent over backwards to create the ideal working environment for her by painting her office in canary yellow with upholstery in Norwich City colours; her package included luncheon vouchers, canariesbus pass and even her own personal keys to the executive loos; all to no avail. Pippa has also declined, due to her festive commitments at Waitrose. She is presenting her festive tips: such as the self-pulling cracker for people on their own at crackersChristmas, an indoor snow machine, a pack of expensive wine labels to disguise cheap plonk, tabletop hock and a nice goose on the dinner-table.

Lift sought

Hi all,

Looking for a lift for Sam Webster to Matlock (Highfields) on Monday morning, the 23rd of September. This could be in the form of a lift into the town (anytime before 9:00am) or Bradbourne (anytime around 8:00 am) or Ashbourne around 7:40 am. If you can help (big smiles!) please call Debbie on 390568 – we’ll pay for the petrol!

Thanks,

Debs

Weather stats, September 8th to 14th

20130915-151044.jpg

Our weatherman says:

Not such a good forecast last week – sorry folks! I predicted a dry week, which turned out a little wetter than anticipated.

The prediction for this week is that autumn will begin to set in, with cool and blustery conditions predominating. There will be strong winds and lower temperatures, and the rain will never be far away.

So much for the “Indian” summer – but we did get a pretty good summer this year…

On Tuesday (September 17th), a smallish group will be going from Parwich for an hour’s Chocolate Experience in Castleton.

We will watch a demonstration and get to sample some chocolates (which are really delicious!).

It’s rather short notice, but there are now a couple of places available, so please let me know if you’d like to come.

The Chocolate Experience costs £6.25 per person – and the lunch will depend on what you choose.

We are leaving from the green at 9.45am. I can offer two people a lift, if that helps.

For more info, or if you’d like to come, do ring me on 519 .

More on Snow Warden Scheme

Could you help your local community?

Parwich Parish Council is looking for volunteers to participate in clearing snow and ice from pavements and footways within Parwich during periods of wintery weather.

Derbyshire County Council’s Winter Service Scheme for 2012/13 proved successful with volunteers from 88 town/parish councils, 29 schools and 7 of the 8 district/borough councils in Derbyshire helping to keep Derbyshire’s footpaths and pavements clear during heavy snowfall; 58 local farmer/contractors used their vehicles to grit and clear the County’s roads.

In return for our help, Derbyshire County Council will provide us with:

  • A free delivery of up to a tonne of paletted 20kg bags of salt
  • Training for up to two representatives
  • Regular updates of when routes within our area have been gritted
  • A website facility to report snow clearing activities in our community and to notify the Council of any problems/issues in our local area
  • Refills of council-owned grit bins twice a year, where requested; once in September and again in January. This will be at the cost of the parish council but will guarantee grit bins are filled and ready for use when bad weather arrives

If you are interested in helping out or would like further information please contact any member of Parwich Parish Council.

Bowls Season ends

Parwich Crown Green Bowls Club

To coin a phrase or two: ‘Now is the time to say goodbye. Now is the time to yield a sigh until we meet again some sunny day’. Well something had to be said on the last match of the season. It’s a pity we did not end the season with a good win let alone a poor loss!

Matlock Thursday Friendly League.
Last match – Away – Chatsworth – 12 September.

Chatsworth are nearly at the top of the league and needed a good win to perhaps secure promotion. We certainly did not hinder their cause. We did not win any of the three doubles games, indeed we were 39 points down before we knew it. Chatsworth 63, Parwich 24.

The singles again gave us valuable points. We won four out of the six games, but our opponents were digging in really well. Although we won the singles the deficit was too great to make up and the final score was Chatsworth 133, Parwich 99. We were approximately half way in the division, but with this heavy defeat we will almost certainly drop some places. Still we should not finish bottom!!

The indoor bowls season starts in early October so if you would like to give bowls a try in the nice warm atmosphere of Ashbourne Bowls Club contact a member of our club. It really is a good game and quite easy to play. The indoor mats are only 45 feet long so you do not have to be as strong as an ox to play.

Weedkiller Weekly #45

Hello Possums,

Wait! Hold the front page, Scoop! Scoop! Breaking news: never mind the Syrian crisis, the overcrowded prisons, the unsustainable immigration putting pressure on housing, hospitals, schools and social security… wait for it… Pippa Middleton had a crush on her hockey coach, which deserved front page coverage in most daily newspapers.

The first ever romantic audiobook for chickens has been commissioned by “The Happy Egg Company”, after research revealed that listening to stories encourages broody hens to lay tastier eggs. Although still in the embryonic stage, the plot will revolve around Molly the hen and her quest to woo Clooney, a handsome cockerel. The hens also enjoy operas by Giblet & Sullivan such as The Parrots of Penzance, hymns such as Onward Crispy Soldiers and Bob Dylan’s Lay Lady Lay.
