Lucy Revs Up

Lucy Dale

The Derby Telegraph  reports that Parwich’s Lucy Dale is helping to put women on the map in motorbike racing. Revved up about her sport, Lucy is taking to the track at Darley Moor in April and is keen that other women should take part in this sport which has been traditionally dominated by men. Lucy has also got one up on her Dad by taking to the track!

Please keep us posted on your progress Lucy!

Parwich Little Garden Birdwatch

Here’s something to get you all tweeting and twittering!

Over the weekend of 30-31 January the RSPB is running their annual Big Garden Birdwatch. ( See RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch for more details ). In conjunction with this we will once again run our own Alsop, Ballidon, Pikehall and Parwich Little Garden Birdwatch. Whilst the RSPB want to know numbers of different bird species seen during a one hour period  we simply what to know what species have been seen over the weekend in and around the villages. There will be a post to log sightings available over the weekend. For anyone doubtful of their bird recognition skills the RSPB site is pretty good, where you can find an A-Z Guide and useful tools to help identify a specific bird sighting.

Our target for the weekend is a challenging 40 different species so the more taking part the better.

Listed below are some of the species we hope will be spotted Continue Reading »

Parwich Duck on Traffic Patrol

Photo by John F-S. So watch out for ducks as well as black ice on the Patwich roads, as PC Mallard is very determined in his attempts to get traffic to slow down.

Watch out for black ice

Watch out for black ice on the roads, especially on higher ground to the north. The Buxton Advertiser reports the Police have closed the A537 over the Cat and Fiddle this afternoon due to black ice, as well as the A54.

With rain and sleet forecast, temperatures around zero tonight and getting colder tomorrow, do let our readers know if you spot or hear of any problems on the roads, by adding comments to this post or emailing parwich@hotmail.co.uk.

So far, 4pm Wednesday, Derbyshire County Council have not reported any road closures (click here to see their gritting routes and snow related road closures web page).

Parwich First Responder News

Static Defibrillators in Ashbourne

Some of you may have noticed the arrival of static defibrillators in Ashbourne. There are now 7 of these at various locations in town – at The Bowling Green pub, Preston’s Garage (Derby Rd), The Pavillion on the recreation ground, David Neil’s on Compton, Ashbourne Sports Injury Clinic (Waterside Retail Park), Betty’s Sewing Box (former library on Cockayne Ave) and the Ex-Servicemen’s Club on the Market Place.

Anyone can access these yellow boxes if they need to help somebody suffering a heart attack. Following the installation of our own Static Defibrillator  we held a basic training session to explain how and when to use it. We would like to remind people that if you suspect that somebody is having a heart attack you take the following action :

  1. Dial 999
  2. Whilst waiting for an ambulance to arrive you will be informed if there is a static defibrillator in the vicinity and given the code to open it.
  3. Follow the instructions (written and audio) from the defibrillator aswell as any given over the phone from the 999 call centre.

Still Going Strong!

Parwich First Responders recently marked 10 years as a group! It seems fitting to report that we all passed our annual re-assessment last Sunday. With ten active Responders we do our best to cover morning, afternoon and evening slots on a rota. One valiant Responder even signs on during the night, giving the village additional cover a couple of times a week. As always, the bigger the group we are, the more slots we can cover on our rota. Most Responders do one or two slots each week. Although we now have a Static Defibrillator in the village we still think that it is important to provide as much cover as possible to Parwich and the surrounding area through First Responders.

We are therefore  thrilled to have 4 new people who want to train to join PFR group. If anyone else is also interested please contact Martin (529) or Sue (334) to enable us to coordinate the next training sessions.

Memorial Hall Key Safe

Could we make a polite request please that all users make sure that the key safe is fully closed and locked when they leave. Please ensure that the front is located properly and that the ‘C’ button has been pressed fully so that the other numbers are released and the unit is secure.

Dog Fouling

image

A reminder to dog owners, please clean up after your dogs. Recently the cricket pitch seems to have become a particular problem. Please be especially vigilant in the areas where children play and where people have to walk.

Bin collections back to normal

imageThis week’s bin collections are back to Wednesday, when the Green garden waste bin including Christmas trees, the Blue recycling bin and the food caddy will be collected.

A big thank you to all our bin men (and the District Council), who provide an excellent service all year round, but who worked especially hard to give us weekly general household waste collections over the holidays, while still maintaining the fortnightly blue recycling bin collections.
