We’ve not seen our cat Sasha since early yesterday evening, which is unusual as she is generally never far from the house – and never misses breakfast! She is a long haired birman, with a chocolate face, ears and legs, and a lighter coffee coloured body. She’s extremely friendly and approachable and is wearing a collar with a name and identity tag with our contact details. If anyone has spotted her, could you please call me on 07515 702265.Thanks for your help – Keeley

Now here’s a conundrum…. Bill W asked me for the trophy for the next Oddfellow’s quiz which will be held shortly, and I couldn’t remember where it ended up. I know that the team I was on won it, but I don’t recall who took it home. If you have the trophy, please can you let me know? Thanks Graham.

This week has seen lots of changes at the hall. Inside the pipework for the underfloor heating has all been laid on top of the insulation, and the screed, which is placed on top, is almost completed. It takes a few days for the screed to go off (harden) and then it is safe to walk on it. The electrician has been busy in the kitchen with the first fix, putting in the trunking and socket boxes. The carpenters will be working this weekend preparing the door and window openings, ready for the frames.
Outside there has been plenty of activity on the roof. The tiles have been hoisted into place on the roof and will be laid shortly as will the solar panels.
The photos show the different stages of laying the underfloor heating system. Continue Reading »

You can buy the Ashbourne News Telegraph in the Sycamore or read it online. It includes the following stories:
Mr Ashbourne’s fall from Grace – the paper contains a few stories about John Hanson, the former Royal Shrovetide secretary accused of fiddling the some £20,000 from the Shrovetide funds.
Waitrose opens tomorrow: being opened by the mayor of Ashbourne, Caroline Cooper.
The good and bad of Google – as well as a “comment” article, there is a double page spread of photos of Ashbourne from Google street view. What do you think? Is this an invasion of our privacy? Will it cause us problems? Comments please! Continue Reading »

Pop along to Town Head (Rosemary & Stuart’s house) at 12.30-2pm for Lent lunch tomorrow. Enjoy a range of cheeses, bread and soup – more fun than making your own lunch. You don’t have to be a member of the Church to enjoy this lunch – it is a community event to raise funds for Church repairs (via a donation for the lunch) – afterall we like seeing the Church in our village, so let’s help keep it in good repair. Everyone is very welcome, including children.
Next Lent Lunch will be on Wednesday 24th March at the Vicarage.

The issue of an oil buying co-op in Parwich has been left a bit up in the air and there seem to be four alternatives:
- Have further discussion
- Set up a centrally organised oil buying co-op
- Seek external support for a local syndicate
- Continue with the current informal system
though unless anyone comes forward to take further action we at PARWICH.ORG suggest that we continue with Option 4. For more details Continue Reading »

Well, holes just keep on appearing outside Jack’s house. No sooner is one section repaired than they find another problem. How do we know what is happening higher up and lower down.
Thanks to JF-S for these pictures taken over the past two days. Click on them to enlarge.

On Saturday the woodwork for the main roof was completed, ready for the Staffordshire Blue tiles to go on this week. As the photo and the video of the main hall shows, the internal scaffolding has now been removed and the large pile of insulation has been placed, both on the ceiling and on the floor, prior to the pipework for the heated floor being installed this week. Once the pipes are in place a concrete screed will be laid over them.

……
The following photos show the meeting room and the kitchen. In the first photo taken from what will be the new patio, you can see the angled glass doors leading to the meeting room, with the doorway to the kitchen and then the heating control room on the left. Continue Reading »

I noticed yesterday afternoon and again this afternoon at about 3pm that the bus went along Church Walk rather than sticking to its route. Presumably this was the 411 from Ashbourne. Both times it seemed to be going rather fast; this does not seem very safe given the narrowness of the lane and the number of pedestrians, including children.
Has this become a regular occurrence or is it just a one (or two) off? A one off to help passengers with a heavy load, if the driver takes care, would not be a problem, but regularly going fast along here must be dangerous.

Spotted in the Ashbourne News Telegraph this week:
Page 2: “Clamping down on distraction burglars”. Burglars who trick their way into houses are being targeted by a new police campaign: “Not Sure? Don’t Open The Door“.
Page 2: “Final touches added to Mercian’s march plans.” Up to 900 school children will be among supporters turning out in Ashbourne to fly the flag for the 2nd Battalion Mercian Regiment on Thursday, March 18. Ashbourne’s branch of the Royal British Legion say that around 220 soldiers will be part of the parade.
Page 6: “Patrick on Shrovetide and the election.” An interview with our MP, Patrick McLoughlin. “I didn’t take last year’s pay increase and I shall not be taking this year’s pay increase”, he tells us.
Page 8: Letters: “Our position on the Council Tax.” A letter from Councillor Andrew Lewer, Derbyshire County Council. (“Over the next 12 months, we will save cash by doing more with less.”)
Page 28: QEGS is holding a wine tasting evening in its sixth form centre on Friday, from 7.30pm. Wines are being supplied by H.Smith of Ashbourne, and there will be a buffet, with cheeses and a raffle.
Page 28: A craft fair takes place in Tissington Village Hall on Saturday on Sunday, from 11am to 5pm.
Page 28: “Giant potato will greet guests at Thorpe village hall.” Intrigued? Click here for further details of this bizarre sounding event, which takes place on Saturday March 20th.
Page 47: The Parwich Legion darts team beat the Tavern Inn by 6-3.

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Parwich Band are on the radio today. The A52s popped into the Ashbourne Radio Live Lounge last week to record a short interview with DJ Heather Cairney to promote their upcoming world tour. They also played an acoustic version (all very unplugged) of one of their many catchy tunes.
Don’t miss it so you can tell your grandchildren you were there at the beginning!
You can listen online (at ashbourneradio.co.uk) or on 96.7FM . 11.40am and 7.40pm today.
